1 قَاضَ ذ , (A, TA,) [aor, يَقِيضَ,] inf. n. قَيْضٌ, (K,) He clave, or broke or rent asunder. (A, * K, TA.) You say, قَاضَ البَيْضَةَ He (a young bird) clave, or broke asunder, the egg: and he (a bird) clave, or broke asunder, the egg from over the young one. (Lth, A, * TA.) And it is said in a trad, respecting the day of resurrection, فَاـِذَا كَانَ كَذٰلِكَ قِيضَتْ هٰذِهِ السَّمَاآءُ الدُّنُبَا عَنْ أَهْلِهَا, i. e., [ And when it shall be thus, this lowest heaven ] shall be cleft, or rent asunder, from over its inhabitants, meaning the inhabitants of the earth (الأَرْض), which is previously mentioned in the trad.:] or, as Sh says, shall be dissolved. (TA.) ― -b2- Also, first pers. قِضْتُ, (AZ, S,) or قَضْتُ, (IAth,) He cracked a glass bottle, without separation of the parts. (AZ, S, IAth.) ― -b3- And قِضْتُ البِنَاآءَ is a dial. form of قُضْتُ [meaning I demolished, destroyed, or threw down, the building ]. (Sgh.) -A2- Also, inf. n. as above, It became cleft, or broken or rent asunder. (K, in which only the inf. n. is mentioned.) You say, قَاضَتِ البَيْضَةُ The egg became cleft, or broken asunder. (TK.) [See also 7.] ― -b2- And قَاضَتِ السِّنُّ, inf. n. as above, The tooth fell out from its root; as also with ص. (S, * TA in art. قيص.) -A3- Also, (TA,) inf. n. as above, (K,) He hollowed out a well (K, TA) in a rock. (TA.) And قِيضَ signifies It was dug. (TA.) -A4- Also, (TK) inf. n. as above, (K,) He likened, or assimilated. (K, TK.) You say, قَاضَهُ بِهِ He likened, or assimilated, him, or it, to him, or it. (TK.) [See also 5; and see قَيْضْ, below.] -A5- See also 3, in two places.

2 قيّض لَهُ كَذَا ذ He (God, Msb) ordained, or appointed, for him such a thing. (Mgh, Msb.) And قيّض ا@للّٰهُ فُلَانًا لِفُلَانٍ, (S, A, K,) in [some of] the copies of the K, بِفُلَانٍ, which is a mistake, (TA,) God ordained, or appointed, or prepared, such a one for such a one: (A:) or brought such a one to such a one, and ordained, or appointed, or prepared, him for him. (S, K.) Hence the saying in the Kur, [xli. 24,] (S,) وَقَيَّضْنَا لَهُمْ قُرَنَاآءَ (S, K) And we have appointed, or prepared, for them associates (A, * Bd, * K, TA) whence they do not expect, (A, K, TA,) which shall have possession of them like as the قَيْض, or shell, has possession of the egg. (Bd.) And so in the same, [xliii. 35,] نُقَيِّضْ لَهُ شَيْطَانًا We will appoint, or prepare, for him a devil [ as an associate ]. (Zj.) Accord. to some, the verb is used only as relating to evil; but this is not true, as is shown by the saying of Mohammad, مَا أَكْرَمَ شَابٌّ شَيْخًا لِسِنِّهِ اـِلَّا قَيَّضَ ا@للّٰهُ لَهُ عِنْدَ سِنِّهِ مَنْ يَكْرِمُهُ [ A young man hath not honoured an aged man for his age but God hath appointed for him in his age such as shall honour him ]. (TA.)

3 قايضهُ ذ , (S, A, K, &c.) inf. n. مُقَايَضَةٌ (S Mgh) and قِيَاضٌ, (A,) He bartered, or exchanged commodities, with him; syn. عَارَضَهُ, (S, O, L, and so in a copy of the K,) بِمَتَاعٍ; (S;) or عَاوَضَهُ; (A, and so in some copies of the K; in the CK, عايَضَهُ;) and بَادَلَهُ; (A, K;) i. e. he gave him a commodity and took another commodity in its stead: (TA:) [as also قَابَضَهُ, with ب:] and ↓ قَاضَهُ, aor. يَقِيضُ, he gave him a thing in exchange. (TA.) You say, قايضهُ بِكَذَا [ He gave him in exchange for such a thing ]. (Mgh.) Hence, بَيْعُ المُقَايَضَةِ The selling a commodity for another commodity. (Mgh.) And hence the saying of Mohammad, اـِنْ شِئْتَ قَايَضْتُكَ بِهِ المُخْتَارَةَ مِنْ دُروُعِ خَيْبَرَ, or بِهِ ↓ أَقِيضُكَ, accord. to different relations; i. e. [ If thou wilt, ] I will give thee in exchange for it [ the choice of the coats of mail of Kheyber ]. (TA.) You say also, أَعْطَيْتُهُ فَرَسًا بِفَرَسَيْنِ مُقَايَضَةً [ I gave him a horse for two horses in exchange ]. (JK.) And مَا أُقَايِضُ بِكَ أَحَدًا (tropical:) [ I do not give, or take, in exchange for thee any one ]. (A, TA.) And لَوْ أُعْطِيتُ مِلْءَ الدَّهْنَاآءِ رِجَالًا قِيَاضًا بِفُلَانٍ رَضِيتُهُمْ (tropical:) [ If I were given what would fill the desert of men, in exchange for such a one, I would not accept them ]: (A, TA:) and the like occurs in a trad. of Mo'áwiyeh, as said by him, with reference to Yezeed. (TA.)

5 تَقيّضت البَيْضَةُ ذ The egg became broken into. pieces; and in like manner, القَارُورَةُ the glass bottle. (AZ, S.) [See also 7.] ― -b2- تقيّض الجِدَارُ The wall fell to pieces, or in ruins, or became a ruin, and broke down; syn. اـِنْهَدَمَ, and اـِنْهَالَ; as also ↓ انقاضت: (K:) or the former signifies the wall broke in pieces, and fell down: but the latter has a different signification, which see in its place below. (AZ, S.) -A2- تقيّض لَهُ It (a thing, TA) became ordained, appointed, or prepared, for him. (K.) -A3- تقيّض أَبَاهُ He resembled his father; (AZ, S, K;) as also تَقَيَّلَهُ. (TA.) [See قَيْضٌ.]

6 تقايضا ذ [ They two bartered, or exchanged commodities, each with the other; like تقابضا: see 3]. (JK.)

7 انقاضت البَيْضَةُ ذ The egg cracked, without splitting apart; and in like manner, القَارُورَةُ the glass bottle. (AZ, S.) [See also 1.] ― -b2- انقاض الجِدَارُ i. q. تقيّض: (K:) or the wall fell to pieces, or in ruins, from its place, without being pulled to pieces: (Lth:) or cracked, without falling: but if it have fallen, you say, تقيّض: (AZ, S:) ― -b3- Accord. to AA, as related by ElMundhiree, انقاض and انقاص both signify It split, or cracked, lengthwise: but see مُنْقَاضٌ. (TA.) You say, accord. to As, انقاضت السِّنُّ The tooth split, or cracked, lengthwise; and in like manner, الرَّكِيَّةُ the well: (S:) or it (the well) became broken in pieces: or fell; fell in ruins, or to pieces; or collapsed; (TA;) as also انقاصت. (S, A, K, in art. قيص.) انقاض belongs both to this art. and to art. قوض. (TA.)

8 اقتاضهُ ذ He extirpated it; destroyed it utterly. (K, TA.) -A2- [Also, He received it, or took it, in exchange; like اـِعْتَاضَهُ: see مُقْتَاضٌ; and see also 3.]

قَيْضٌ ذ [ An egg-shell; ] the upper hard covering that is upon an egg: (K:) or [ an egg-shell cracked in pieces; ] what is cracked in pieces of the upper covering of an egg: (S, * IB:) or one from which the young bird, or the fluid, has gone forth. (Lth, K.) -A2- A compensation, or substitute; a thing given, or received, or put, or done, instead of, in the place of, or in exchange for, another thing. (K.) You say, بَاعَهُ فَرَسً بِفَرَسَيْن قَيْضَيْنِ [ He sold to him a horse for two horses as substitutes ]. (TA.) ― -b2- هُمَا قَيْضَانِ They two are likes; they two are like each other; (A' Obeyd, A;) each of them is fit to be a substitute for the other. (A, TA.) [See also هُمَا قَوْضَانِ.] ― -b3- هٰذَا قَيْضٌ لَهُ, and له ↓ قِيَاضٌ, This is equal, or equivalent, to it. (O, K.)

قِيضَةٌ ذ A small piece of bone: (AA, K:) pl., accord. to the K, قِيْضٌ; but correctly, accord. to AA, قِيَضٌ. (TA.)

قَيِّضٌ ذ A barterer, or an exchanger of commodities: (S, Msb:) of the measure فَيْعِلٌ. (Msb.) You say, هُمَا قَيِّضَانِ They two are barterers, or exchangers of commodities; like as you say بَيِّعَانِ. (S.)

قِيَاضٌ ذ : see قَيْضٌ.

مَقِيضٌ ذ The place in which is [ an egg-shell, or an egg-shell cracked in pieces, or empty, or] the part of an egg called قَيْض. (K, TA.) -A2- بَيْضَةٌ مَقِيضَةٌ An egg cleft, or split. (TA.) ― -b2- بِئْرٌ مَقِيضَةٌ A well abounding with water, having been hollowed out, (K, TA,) or cleft. (TA.)

المُقْتَاض ذ in the following verse of Abu-shShees, بُدِّلْتُ مِنْ بُرْدِ الشَّبَابِ مُلَاآءَةً خَلَقًا وَبِئْسَ مَثُوبَةُ المُقْتَاضِ [ I have been given in exchange, for the mantle of youth, an old worn-out covering; and very evil is the recompense of the receiver in exchange ] is from قَيْضٌ as signifying the “ bartering, ” or “ exchanging commodities, ” (TA,) [or rather the “ giving in exchange: ” see 3.]

بَيْضَةٌ مُنْقَاضَةٌ ذ An egg cracked, without being split apart; and in like manner, قَارُورَةٌ a glass bottle. (AZ, S.) As says, that مُنْقَاصٌ signifies uprooted; and مُنْقَاضٌ, with the pointed ض, cracked, or split, lengthwise; but AA says, that both signify the same. (S, O, in art. قيص.)

1 قَاظَ بِالمَكَانِ ذ , (S, Msb, K,) aor. يَقِيظُ, inf. n. قَيْظٌ; (Msb;) and بِهِ ↓ تقيّظ; (S, K;) and به ↓ قيّظ; (K;) and ↓ اقتاظ; (TA;) He, (a man, Msb,) or it, (a people, K,) remained, or abode, in the place during the season called قَيْظ, (K, * TA,) during the summer, (S,) or during the days of heat. (Msb.) Dhu-r-Rummeh makes the second of these verbs trans. by itself, [without a preposition,] saying الرَّمْلَ ↓ تَقَيَّظَ [ He remained, or abode, during the summer, or hot season, in the sands ]. (TA.) ― -b2- قَاظَ يَوْمُنَا Our day became vehemently, or intensely, hot. (S, Sgh, K.) ― -b3- See also 3. -A2- قِيظُوا They were rained upon by the rain of the season called القيظ; similar to صِيفُوا and رُبِعُوا. (TA.)

2 قَيَّظَ see 1. -A2- قيّظهُ, (S, K,) inf. n. تَقْيِيظٌ, (K,) It (a thing, S, K, such as food, and a garment, TA) sufficed him for his [ season called ] قَيْظ; (S, K;) similar to صيّفهُ and شتّاهُ. (TA.)

3 قايظهُ ذ , inf. n. مُقَايَظَةٌ, He remained, or abode, during the season called قَيْظ with him. (AHn.) ― -b2- عَامَلَهُ مُقَايَظَةٌ, and قِيَاظًا, and قُيُوظًا, with damm, which last is extr., (K, TA,) not being an inf. n. of this verb, (TA,) [but, by rule, of ↓ قاظَ,] He made an engagement, or a contract, with him for the season called قَيْظ: (TA:) from القَيْظُ, like مُشَاهَرَةٌ from الشَّهْرُ. (K, TA.) And اـِسْتَأْجَرَهُ مُقَايَظَةً, and قِيَاظًا, He hired him, or took him as a hired man, or hireling, for the season so called. (TA.)

قَيْظٌ ذ The most vehement, or intense, heat of summer; (S, K;) from the [ auroral ] rising of the Pleiades, [ which, at the commencement of the era of the Flight, was about the 13th of May, O. S., ] to the [ auroral ] rising of Canopus, [ which, at the same period, was about the 4th of August, O. S.: ] (K:) or vehemence, or intenseness, of heat: (Msb:) pl. [of pauc.] أَقْيَاظٌ and [of mult.] قُيُوظٌ. (K.) ― -b2- Also, The quarter which people [ commonly ] call the صَيْف; (Msb;) the summerquarter, commencing when the sun enters the sign of Cancer; so termed by some, who called the spring-quarter the صَيْف, and the autumnal-quarter the رَبِيع; others [in later times] calling the summer-quarter the صيْف, the spring-quarter the رَبِيع, and the autumnal-quarter the خَرِيف; but agreeing with the former in calling the winterquarter the شِتَاآء: (Mir-át ez-Zemán:) the Arabs say, that the year consists of four seasons, every one of these being three months; namely, the quarter called the صَيْف, which is that called رَبِيعُ الكَلَاـِ, consisting of [the Syrian months] Ádhár and Neysán and Eiyár [or March and April and May, O. S.]; then, the quarter called the قَيْظ, consisting of Hazeerán and Temmooz and Áb [or June and July and August, O. S. ]; then, the quarter called the خَرِيف, consisting of Eylool and the two Tishreens [or September and October and November, O. S.]; and then, the quarter called the شِتَاآء, consisting of the two Kánoons and Shubát [or December and January and February, O. S.]. (Az, TA.) ― -b3- لَا تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ حَتَّى يَكُونَ الوَلَدُ غَيْظًا والمَطَرُ قَيْظًا, a saying of Mohammad, meaning [ The resurrection, or the time thereof, will not come to pass until the birth of a child be an occasion of wrath, or rage, and ] rain be accompanied by air like the قيظ [or most vehement heat of summer ]. (TA.) ― -b4- اـِجْتَمَعَ القَيْظُ is an elliptical and abridged phrase, meaning The people, or company of men, assembled themselves in the قَيْظ [or summer ]. (TA.)

قَيْظِىٌّ ذ What is brought forth [ of sheep or goats ] in the season called the قَيْظ. (K, TA.) [See also صَفَرِىٌّ, in three places.]

قِيَاظٌ ذ Seed-produce [or wheat] that is sown in the autumn and the beginning of winter [ so as to be reaped in summer ]. (JK, TA.)

يَوْمٌ قَائِظٌ ذ A day vehemently, or intensely, hot: and قَيْظٌ قَائِظٌ a summer vehement, or intense [ in heat ]. (TA.)

مَقِيظٌ ذ A place where people remain, or abide, in the summer; (IAar, S, K;) as also مَقْيَظٌ. (K.) And A place of pasturing in summer. (IAar.) ― -b2- Also, (JK,) or ↓ مَقِيظَةٌ, (K,) A plant, or herbage, that remains green until the قَيْظ [or summer ], (Lth, JK, K,) although the land and leguminous plants be dried up, (Lth, TA,) being a means of subsistence for the camels when other herbage has become dry. (Lth, JK, K.)

مَقِيظَةٌ ذ : see مَقِيظٌ.

مُقَيِّظٌ ذ A thing that suffices one for the [ season called ] قَيْظ. (S.)

قَبِيعَةٌ ذ [The pommel of a sword;] the thing of silver or iron at the extremity of the hilt of a sword. (S, K.)

1 قَبَلَ ذ as syn. with ↓ أَقْبَلَ, q. v.: see أَدْبَرَ, in two places. ― -b2- قَبَحَ اللّٰهُ مَا قَبَلَ مِنْهُ وَمَا دَبَرَ: see دَبَر. ― -b3- قَبِلَ He took, received, or admitted, willingly, or with approbation; he accepted. See قَبُولٌ. ― -b4- قَبِلَتِ النَّعْلُ The sandal had its قِبَال broken. (TA in art. شسع.)

3 قَابَلَهُ ذ He faced, or fronted, or was opposite to or over against, him, or it. (S, * K.) See also ↓ اِسْتَقْبَلَهُ He, or it, corresponded to him, or it. ― -b2- قَابَلَهُ بِنَفْسِهِ [ He opposed himself to him ]. (TA, art. عرض.) See عَرَضَ لَهُ; and see 4. ― -b3- قَابَلَ كَذَا بِكَذَا He requited such a thing with such a thing; or did, or gave, such a thing in return for such a thing; as good for good, evil for evil, good for evil, or evil for good. (The Lexicons passim.) ― -b4- He counteracted such a thing with such a thing. ― -b5- He compared such a thing &c. ― -b6- قُوبِلَ بِكَذَا It was compensated, or requited, by, or with, such a thing: see an ex. of the part. n. voce غُنْمٌ. ― -b7- قَابَلَ الشَّاة: see دَابَرَ الشاة. ― -b8- فَرَسٌ قُوبِلَ مِنْ اآفِقٍ وَاآفِقَةٍ A horse that is generous with respect to both parents. 4 أَقْبَلْتُهُ الشَّىْءَ ذ I made it to face the thing: (S, K:) and الشَّىْءَ ↓ قَابَلْتُهُ app. signifies the same: see a verse of El-Aashà voce اِرْتِسَامٌ. ― -b2- أَقْبَلَ بِهِ [ He turned it forward; contr. of أَدْبَرَ بِهِ]. (S, K, art. دبر.) ― -b3- أَقْبَلَ He came, facing; (JK, S, * K; *) came forward; came on; advanced; contr. of أَدْبَرَ. (S, K.) ― -b4- أَقْبَلْتُ قِبَلَكَ [not قُبْلَكَ] I advanced, or came, toward thee. Like قَصَدْتُ قَصْدَكَ. (L, art. حرد.) See also Kur, ii. 172. ― -b5- أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهِ He advanced, or approached, towards him, or it. ― -b6- أَقْبَلَ عَلَى اـِنْسَانٍ, as though he desired no other person. (JK.) ― -b7- اقْبَالٌ The advancing of fortune; contr. of اـِدْبَارٌ. ― -b8- الاـِقْبَالُ فِى الدُّنْيَا [ Advance in the world, or in worldly circumstances ]. (Mgh in art. جد.) اـِقْبَالٌ signifies The being fortunate. (KL.) ― -b9- اـِقْبَالٌ i. q. دَوْلَةٌ [ Good fortune; &c.; see تامِكُ]: and عِزَّةٌ [ might; &c.]. (Kull, p. 64.) ― -b10- أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهِ He showed favour to him: or, more properly, he presented a favourable aspect to him; or, accord. to general usage, he met him kindly; see بَشَّ لَهُ. ― -b11- أَقْبَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ الدُّنْيَا, (A, art. فتح,) The world favoured him. ― -b12- أَقْبَلَ عَلَى شَىْءٍ He set about, or commenced, doing a thing. (K, &c.) ― -b13- See تَصَدَّدَ. ― -b14- أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهِ He clave to it: and he took to, set about, began, or commenced it; as also عليه ↓ قَبَلَ. (K.) ― -b15- [أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهِ بِالسَّيْفِ, and بِالعَصَا, and بِالسَّوْطِ He advanced against him, or set upon him, with the sword, and with the staff or stick, and with the whip. ] ― -b16- You say, أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْه بِالسَّوْطِ يَضْرِبُهُ [ He advanced against him, or set upon him, with the whip, striking him ]. (S in art. حول.) ― -b17- See قَبَلٌ. ― -b18- يُقْبِلُ بِالدَّلْوِ اـِلَى البِئْرِ and أَمْرُ فُلَانٍ الَى اـِقْبَالٍ: see أَدْبَرَ. ― -b19- أَقْبَل عَلَيْهِ بِالتَّعْنِيفِ: see Har, p. 165 ― -b20- أَقْبِلْ عَلَى نَفْسِكَ [ Betake, or apply, thyself to thine own affairs ]. (T, voce اـِلَى.) ― -b21- دَبَرَتْ لَهُ الرِّيحُ بَعْدَ مَا أَقْبَلَتْ: see دبر. ― -b22- أَقْبَلَ [ He recovered, or regained, health; ] occurring in the K, as the explanation of ثَابَ جِسْمُهُ. (K, art. ثوب.) أَقْبَلَ بَعْدَ هُزَالٍ. (K, voce حَشَمَ.) ― -b23- أَقْبَلَ, with reference to the slit ear of a she-camel: see أَدْبَرَ. ― -b24- أَقْبِلْنَا بِذِمَّةٍ, app. a mistranscription for أَقْلِبْنَا: see ذِمَّةٌ.

6 تَقَابَلُوا ذ They faced, or confronted, one another: see S in art. فقح.

8 اِقْتَبَلَهُ ذ He began it, or commenced it; namely, an affair; (S, * Mgh, K; *) as also ↓ اـِسْتَقْبَلَهُ. (Mgh.)

10 اِسْتَقْبَلَهُ ذ : see اِسْتَدْبَرَهُ. He faced him, or it. (TA) He turned his face towards him, or it. ― -b2- He came before his face. ― -b3- He went to meet him; he met him, or encountered him. He saw it before him: he looked forward to it: he saw it, or knew it, beforehand. He saw, or knew, at the beginning of it what he did not see, or know, at the end thereof. ― -b4- استقبلهُ بِأَمْرٍ (T, S, K, &c., in art. بده) He met him, or encountered him, with a thing. or an affair, or an action. (TK in art. بده.) ― -b5- استقبلهُ بِمَا يَكْرَهُ (A, K, in art. بكت, &c.) He encountered him with, or, as it often means, he accused him, to his face, of a thing that he disliked, or hated: see بَكَّتَهُ; and the phrases اَلبْهتُ ا@سْتِقْبَالُكَ أَخَاكَ بِمَا لَيْسَ فِيهِ and بِالكَذبِ ↓ قَابَلَهُ, voce بَهَتَهُ; and استقبلهُ بِالحَقِّ, voce قَرَحَهُ; in both senses like لَقِيَهُ بِمَكْرُوهٍ. ― -b6- اِسْتَقْبَلْتُهُ بِكَلَامٍ فِيهِ غِلْظَةٌ [ I encountered him, or confronted him, with speech in which was roughness ]. (JK, M, TA, art. جبه.) ― -b7- اِسْتَقْبَلَهُ He anticipated it; namely, Ramadán, by fasting before its commencement. (TA.) ― -b8- See 8.

قَبْلُ ذ Before; contr. of بَعْدُ; (S, K, &c.;) an adv. n. of time; and, as some say, of place also; (MF, TA;) and of rank, or station. (TA.)

سَقَىاـِبِلَهُ قَبَلًا ذ [and بِالقَبَلِ] He poured the water into the trough while his camels were drinking, so that it came upon them: (T, TA:) or قَبَلٌ signifies a man's bringing his camels to water, and drawing the water over their mouths, not having prepared for them aught [ thereof ] before that: (As, TA:) and سَقَى عَلَى اـِبِلِهِ قَبَلًا he poured the water over the mouths of his camels: (M, TA:) and عَلَى اـِبِلِهِ ↓ أَقَبْلَ he drew the water over the heads of his camels while they drank, when they had drunk what was in the trough, (Lh, M, TA,) not having prepared it before that: and this is the most severe mode of watering. (Lh, TA.) ee an ex. voce جَبًا, art. جبو and جبى. ― -b2- نَبَلٌ is opposed to دَبَرٌ: see the latter. ― -b3- نَّ الحَقَّ بِقَبَلٍ Verily the truth is manifest; where one sees it. (TA, art. عجز.) ― -b4- مِنْ ذِى قَبَلٍ: see مِنْ ذِى عَوْضٍ; and see قِبَلٌ; and أُنُفٌ. ― -b5- اـِذَا رَأَيْتَ الشِّعْرَى بِقَبَلٍ الخ: see M, art. دبر.

لَقِيتُهُ قِبَلًا ذ I met him face to face. (JK.) ― -b2- لَا أُكَلِّمُكَ اِلَى عَشْرٍ مِنْ ذِى قِبَلٍ i. q. ↓ من ذى قَبَلٍ, i. e. [ I will not speak to thee until ten nights] in what I [ now ] begin [ of time ]: or the latter, until ten [nights] which thou [ now ] beginnest: and the former, until ten [nights] of the days which thou [ now ] witnessest, (K, TA,) i. e. beginnest: (TA:) or the latter, of a time [ now ] begun; or, a future time. (Mgh, Msb.) And أَتَيْتُ قُلَانًا مَنُ ذِى قِبَلٍ i. q. اآنِفًا. (Lth in T, art. انف.) ― -b3- قِبَلَ Towards. (Bd. ii. 172.) قِبَلُ شَىْءُ What is next to a thing: you say, ذَهَبَ قِبَلَ السُّوقِ [ he went to the part next to the market ]. (TA.) لِى قِبَلَهُ مَالٌ I have property in his hands; i. e. due, or owing, to me by him; syn. عِنْدَهُ [q. v.] (K, * TA.) And لَنَا قِبَلَكَ حَاجَةٌ: (S in art. روى &c.:) see رَوِيَّةٌ (and عِنْدَ also). ― -b4- هٰذَا الأَمْرُ مِنْ قِبَلِهِ This thing, or affair, is from him; syn. مَنْ تِلْقَائِهِ and مَنْ لَدُنْهُ, meaning مِنْ عِنْدِهِ. (Lth, TA.) يَتَكَلَّمُ مِنْ قِبَلِ أَنْفِهِ [ He speaks from (i. e. through ) his nose ]. (JK and K, voce أَدْغَمُ.) ― -b5- اِنْشَقَّ من قِبَلِ نَفْسِهِ It (a garment) rent of itself. (L, art. صوخ, &c.)

قُبُلٌ ذ The front, or fore part. See Kur, xii. 26. The former or first part: see دَفَئِيٌّ. ― -b2- القُبُلُ The anterior pudendum (فَرْج) [ vulva, and vagina, ] of a man or woman; (Msb;) opposite of الدُّبُرُ. (S, K.)

مَا لَهُ قِبْلَةٌ وَلَا دِبْرَةٌ ذ , &c.: see دبر.

قَبَلِىٌّ ذ : see دَبَرِىٌّ.

قِبَالُ الشِّبْرِ ذ and الشِّسْعِ: see شِبْرٌ. ― -b2- فُلَانٌ مَا يَدْرِى قِبَالَ الأَمْرِ مَنْ دِبَارِهِ; &c.: see دبر. ― -b3- قبَالٌ of the sandal: see زِمَامٌ.

قَبُولٌ ذ Favourable reception; acceptance; approbation: (KL PS:) love, and approbation, and inclination of the mind. (TA.) عَلَى فُلَانٍ قَبُولٌ [ Approbation is bestowed upon such a one; ] the mind accepts, or approves, such a one. (S.) ― -b2- قَبُولٌ Goodliness, beauty, grace, comeliness, or pleasingness: and [ beauty of ] aspect or garb. (K.) [And Acceptableness. عَلَيْهِ قَبُولٌ may be rendered Upon him, or it, is an appearance of goodliness, &c.]

قَبِيلٌ ذ : see دَبِيرٌ. ― -b2- قَبِيلٌ Kind, species, class, race. مِنْ قً Of the kind, &c. See قَبِيلَةٌ.

جَاآءَ قُبَيْلَ ذ He came a little while ago; syn. اآنِفًا. (M in art. انف.)

قُبَالَتَهُ ذ Opposite to, in a position so as to face, him or it. (K, &c.) See حِيَالٌ in art. حول. ― -b2- قُبَالَةٌ The direction, point, place, or tract, in front of a thing; the opposite direction &c.

قَبِيلَةٌ ذ A body of men from one father and mother: and ↓ قَبِيلٌ, without ة, a body of men from several ancestors. (Az in TA, art. سبط.) ― -b2- قَبِيلَةٌ: see شَعْبٌ. ― -b3- A mass of stone or rock at the mouth of a well. (K and TA voce عُقَابٌ, q. v.) See قَابِلٌ.

عَامٌ قَابِلٌ ذ , and ↓ مُقْبِلٌ, signify the same, [ A nextcoming year ]. (S.) القَابِلَةُ i. q. اللَّيْلَةُ المُقْبِلَةُ [ The next night ]. (S, K.) See القُبَاقِبُ. ― -b2- قَابِلٌ لِكَذَا Susceptible of such a thing. ― -b3- قَابِلٌ An arrow that wins [in the game of المَيْسِر]; (TA, art دبر;) contr. of دَابِرٌ, q. v. (S and TA, art. دبر.) ― -b4- قَبَائِل of the head: see شَأْنٌ. ― -b5- And ↓ قَبِيلَة of a helmet: see طِرَاقٌ. ― -b6- قَابِلَةٌ A wife. (TA in art. عزب.)

قَابِلِيَّةٌ ذ [ The quality of admitting or receiving; susceptibility ].
