1 وَظَبَ عَلَى شَىْءٍ ذ , (aor. يَظِبُ, K,) inf. n. وُظُوبٌ, (and وَظْبٌ, Msb,) He continued, to do a thing; persevered in it: (Lth, Lh, S, K:) or, (as also وَظَبَهُ, aor. and inf. n. as above, TA,) i. q. ↓ وَاظَبَ, [which is the more common,] inf. n. مُوَاظَبَهٌ, he kept, attended, or applied himself, constantly, perseveringly, or assiduously, to a thing; he was, or became, intent upon it; (AZ, Lh, S, K;) ↓ واظب is said to be sometimes trans. without a preposition, like لَازَمَ; but Es-Saad denies this. (TA.) ― -b2- وُظِبَتِ الرَّوْضَةُ The meadow was incessantly pastured on, [ so that it became destitute of herbage ]. (TA.) (TA.) ― -b3- النِّعْمَةُ الوَاحِدَةُ تَسْتَوْعِبُ جَمِيعَ عَمَلِ العَبْدِ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ (tropical:) One favour [ of God ] will be equivalent to all the works of a man on the day of resurrection. A trad. (TA.) ― -b4- اشتوعب [generally signifies He, or it, took, took in or comprised or comprehended or included, or took up or occupied, altogether, wholly, or universally; or took in the gross; engrossed: like اِسْتَغْرَقَ]. See 1: and 4, in two places. اِذَا ا@سْتُوعِبَ جَدْعُهُ الدِّيَةُ, said in a trad. respecting the nose, If the mutilation thereof be total, so that nothing be left of it, the [ whole ] price of blood [ shall be paid ]: (S:) or, accord. to another relation, أُوعِبَ كُلُّهُ [ If ] the whole of it be cut off. (TA.) امراة وَعْثَهُ الأَرْدَافِ (tropical:) A woman having soft buttocks. (ISd.) Ru-beh says, تُمِيلُهَا أَعْجَازُهَا الأَوَاعِثُ [ Her soft buttocks make her to bend ]. Here اواعث may be pl. of وَعْثٌ, contr. to analogy; or it may be pl. of أَوْعُثٌ, which may be pl. of وَعْثٌ. (ISd.) ↓ وَعْثَاءُ also signifies the same as وَعْثٌ. A poet says, وَاـِنِّى وَاـِنْ أَوْعَدْتُهُ أَوْ وَعَدْتُهُ لَمُخْلِفُ اـِيعَادِى وَمُنْجِزُ مَوْعِدِى [ And verily I, if I threaten him or promise him, fail to perform my threat, but fulfil my promise ]. (Msb.) Nay, they do not apply the term خُلْفٌ to the failure of performing a threat. (TA.) ― -b3- يَوْمُنَا يَعِدُ بَرْدًا (tropical:) Our day promises cold. (L.) ― -b4- وَعَدَتِ الأَرض (tropical:) The land promised good produce. (A.) ― -b5- وَاعَدَهُ فَوَعَدَهُ: see 3.

3 واعدهُ ذ , inf. n. مُوَاعَدَةٌ, He promised him, the latter doing the same to him. (Aboo-Mo'ádh, L.) ― -b2- وَاعَدَهُ فَوَعَدَهُ He vied with him in promising, and surpassed him therein, by promising more. (L, K. *) ― -b3- وَاعَدهُ الوقْتَ, and المَوْضِعَ, [ He appointed with him the time, and the place ]. (L, K.) أَوْعَدَنِى مَوْعِدًا is a vulgar mistake. (Aboo-Bekr, L.)

4 أَوْعَدَ see 1 throughout. -A2- اوعد, (A, L,) inf. n. اـِيعَادٌ, (L,) in the sense of which وَعِيدٌ is also used [as a quasi-inf. n.], (S, A, L, K) (tropical:) He (a stallion-camel) brayed, (هَدَرَ, S, A, &c.) on his being about to attack and fight with other camels. (S, A, L.)

6 تواعدوا ذ and ↓ اتّعدوا signify the same, [ They promised one another ]: (K *, TA:) or the former relates to good, (S, Msb, K,) signifying they promised one another something good: (S, Msb,) and the latter, to evil, (S, L, K,) signifying they threatened one another: (L:) and this distinction is commonly admitted and observed. (TA.) ― -b2- تَواَعَدْنَا المَوْضِعَ, [and الوَقْتَ, We appointed mutually the place, and the time ]. (Msb.)
