5 ترضّاهُ ذ He sought to please, content, or satisfy, him; (M, K;) as also ↓ استرضاهُ. (K.) A poet says, اـِذَا العَجُوزُ غَضِبَتْ فَطَلِّقْ وَلَا تَرَضَّاهَا وَلَا تَمَلَّقْ [ When the old woman is angry, then divorce thou; and seek not to please, or content, her, nor behave in a loving, or blandishing, or coaxing, manner ]: he says تَرَضَّاهَا instead of تَرَضَّهَا to avoid what is termed خَبْنٌ; but some relate it in the manner better known, saying وَلَا تَرَضَّهَا. (M.) ― -b2- [Also] تَرَضَّيْتُهُ I pleased, contented, or satisfied, him (أَرْضَيْتُهُ) after striving, labouring, or toiling. (S.)

6 تَرَاضَيَاهُ ذ [ They two agreed, consented, accorded, or were of one mind or opinion, respecting it; or were pleased, well pleased, content, contented, or satisfied, with it; they both liked it, or approved it ]: (A, K:) and تَرَاضَيَا بِهِ [signifies the same]. (Bd in iv. 28.) And تَرَاضَوْهُ بَيْنَهُمْ They agreed among themselves in being pleased, contented, or satisfied, with it; or in liking, or approving, it. (MA.) اـِذَا تَرَاضَوْا بَيْنَهُمْ, in the Kur [ii. 232], means [ When they agree, or consent, among themselves; or] when they are pleased, well pleased, content, &c., [ among themselves, ] every one of them with his [or her ] companion. (TA.) Hence the trad., اـِنَّمَا البَيْعُ عَنْ تَرَاضً [ Sel-ling, or buying, is only resultant from mutual agreement, consent, or content, or approval ]. (TA.) And you say, وَقَعَ بِهِ التَّرَاضِى [ Mutual agreement, or consent, to it, or mutual content with it, or mutual approval of it, happened, or took place ]. (A, K. [In some copies of the K, by the omission of وَ, this phrase is made to be as though it were meant as an explanation of تَرَاضَيَاهُ.])

10 استرضاهُ ذ He asked, begged, or petitioned, of him that he would please, content, or satisfy, him, or that he would give him that with which he would be pleased, well pleased, content, contented, or satisfied. (Z, K.) You say, اِسْتَرْضَيْتُهُ فَأَرْضَانِى [ I asked, begged, or petitioned, of him that he would please me, &c., and he pleased me, &c.]. (S.) ― -b2- See also 5.

رُضًى ذ A certain idol-temple, belonging to [ the tribe of ] Rabee'ah: (K:) whence they gave the name of عَبْدُ رُضًى [ Servant of Rudà ]. (TA.)

رِضًى ذ is merely an inf. n., (S,) [as such] syn. with مَرْضَاةٌ, (K,) meaning The being pleased, well pleased, content, &c.; [see 1;] contr. of سَخَطٌ: (M:) and the simple subst. is ↓ رِضَاآءٌ, with medd.; [signifying a state of being pleased, &c.;] (Akh, S;) or the latter is only an inf. n. of 3, (M,) syn. with مُرَاضَاةٌ: (M, K:) [but] the former [is also used as a subst., signifying content, or approval: and permission, or consent: and] is dualized, app. as meaning the kind [or mode or manner, of being pleased, &c.]: (M:) the dual is رِضَوَانٍ and رِضَيَانِ: (S, M, K:) Ks heard رِضَوَانِ and حَمَوَانِ as duals of رِضًى and حِمًى; and says that the proper way is to say رِضَيَانِ and حِمَيَانِ, [which in the case of the former is strange, as its final radical is و,] but that the pronunciation with و is the more common: (S:) and accord. to some, مَرَاضٍ is an irreg. pl. of رِضًى; but others say that it is pl. of مَرْضَاةٌ. (TA.) You say, مَا فَعَلْتُهُ عِنْ رِضَاهُ and رِضْوَتِهِ: see the latter, below. (Z, K.) ― -b2- See also رَاضٍ, latter sentence. -A2- And رَجُلٌ رِضًى, (M, K,) and قَوْمٌ رِضًى, (M,) A man, (M, K,) and a people, or party, (M,) with whom one is pleased, well pleased, contented, or satisfied; regarded with good will, or favour; liked, or approved; syn. مَرْضِىٌّ (M, K) and قُنْعَانٌ: رِضًى being, thus used, an inf. n. in the sense of a pass. part. n., like as the inf. n. is used in the sense of an act. part. n. in the instance of عَدْلٌ, and خَصْمٌ. (M.) ― -b2- [See also رَضِىٌّ; for which رِضًى or رِضًا seems to be erroneously substituted, in two senses, in some copies of the K.]

مَا فَعَلْتُهُ عَنْ رِضْوَتِهِ ذ means ↓ عَنْ رِضَاهُ [i. e. I did it not of, or with, his pleasure, good pleasure, content, or approval ]. (Z, K.)

رِضْوَانٌ ذ an inf. n. of رَضِىَ; like رُضْوَانٌ. (M, K, &c.) -A2- Also The treasurer, keeper, or guardian, of Paradise. (MA, K.)

رِضَاآءٌ ذ : see رِضًى, first sentence.

رَضِىٌّ ذ : see رَاضٍ. ― -b2- Also, (K, TA,) i. e. like غَنِىٌّ, (TA,) [in the CK الرِّضَى, and in my MS. copy of the K الرِّضَا, are put in the place of الرَّضِىُّ,] One who is responsible, accountable, or answerable; syn. ضَامِنٌ: so in the copies of the K, and in like manner in the Tekmileh: accord. to the copies of the T, ضَامِرٌ [ lean, or light of flesh, &c.]. (TA.) ― -b3- And Loving; a lover; or a friend. (IAar, K, TA.) ― -b4- And Obeying, or obedient. (IAar, TA.)

رَاضٍ ذ , of which the pl. is رُضَاةٌ; and ↓ رَضِىٌّ, of which the pl. is أَرْضِيَاآءُ and رُضَاةٌ, (M, K,) the latter pl. on the authority of Lh, but extr. as pl. of رَضِىٌّ, and in my opinion, [says ISd,] it is pl. of رَاضٍ only; (M;) and ↓ رَضٍ, of which the pl. is رَضُونَ; (Lh, M, K;) Pleased, well pleased, content, contented, or satisfied; regarding with good will, or favour; liking, or approving. (M, K.) ― -b2- عِيشَةٌ رَاضِيَةٌ means مَرْضِيَّةٌ [i. e. A state, or sort, of life that is found pleasing, well pleasing, contenting, or satisfying; or with which one is pleased, &c.; or that is liked, or approved ]: (S, K:) or, accord. to Sb, رَاضِيَةٌ is, in this case, a possessive epithet, meaning ↓ ذَاتُ رِضًى [i. e. having approvedness; رِضًى being here an inf. n. of رُضِيَتْ]. (M, TA.)

مَرْضَاآةٌ ذ , originally مَرْضَوَةٌ, (TA,) an inf. n. of رَضِىَ. (S, * M, K.) ― -b2- [Also A cause, or means, or an occasion, of رِضًى, i. e., of being pleased, well pleased, conten, &c.: a word of the same class as مَبْخَلَةٌ and مَجْبَنَةٌ. Hence the saying,] البِرُّ مَرْضَاةٌ لِلرَّبِّ مَسْخَطَةٌ لِلشَّيْطَانِ [ Piety is a cause of approbation to the Lord, a cause of disapprobation, or anger, to the devil ]. (TA in art. سخط.) The pl. of مَرْضَاةٌ is مَرَاضٍ [accord. to rule]: or this is an irreg. pl. of رِضًى. (TA.)

مَرْضُوٌّ ذ : see what follows.

مَرْضِىٌّ ذ and ↓ مَرْضُوٌّ, (T, S, M, Msb, K,) the former the more common, (S, Msb,) the latter erroneously written in [some of] the copies of the K مَرْضُىٌّ, (TA,) applied to a thing, (S, Msb,) or a person, (M,) Found pleasing, well pleasing, contenting, or satisfying; or with which, or with whom, one is pleased, &c.; or liked, or approved: (K: [the meaning being there indicated to be the contr. of مَسْخُوطٌ; and being well known to be commonly as above:]) or chosen, or preferred: (Msb:) or seen, or judged, to be fit for a thing or an affair: (M:) [see also رِضًى, last sentence but one; and رَاضٍ, latter sentence.]

رِضَيَانِ ذ a dual of رِضًى, which see in art. رضو.

1 رَطُبَ ذ , (S, A, MA, Msb, K,) aor. رَطُبَ ; (K;) and رَطِبَ, aor. رَطَبَ ; (K;) inf. n. رُطُوبَةٌ (S, A, MA, Msb, K) of the former verb (S, A, Msb) and رَطَابَةٌ [also of the former verb]; (MA, K;) It (a thing, S, Msb) was, or became, the contr. of what is termed يَا بِس (S, Msb, K) and جَافّ; i. e., (Msb,) it was, or became, moist, humid, succulent, sappy, or juicy: (A, MA, Msb:) or soft, or tender, to chew: (A:) [and fresh, or green; agreeably with the Pers. explanation, تَرْشُدْ, in the MA: and supple, pliant, or flexible: all meanings well known, of frequent occurrence, and implied in the first of the explanations above, and in explanations of رَطْبٌ and رَطِيبٌ:] and soft, or tender, said of a branch, or twig, and of plumage, &c.: (K:) [and ↓ ترطّب, as used in the L in art. عقد, &c., signifies the same.] رُطُوبَةٌ [used as a simple subst.] signifies A quality necessarily involving facility of assuming shape and of separation and of conjunction. (KT.) ― -b2- [Hence, رَطُبَتْ said of a girl, (assumed tropical:) She was, or became, sappy, or supple; and soft, or tender: and رَطُبَ said of a boy, (assumed tropical:) He was, or became, sappy, or soft, or supple; and femininely soft or supple: see رَطْبٌ, below. ― -b3- Hence also,] رَطُبَ لِسَانِى بِذِكْرِكَ and ↓ ترطّب (tropical:) [ My tongue has become supple by mentioning thee; i. e., has been much occupied by mentioning thee: a well-known phrase: (see also 2:) it may also be used as meaning my tongue has become refreshed (lit. moistened ) by mentioning thee ]. (A.) And خُذْ مَا رَطُبَتْ بِهِ يَدَاكَ (tropical:) [ Take that by means of the frequent handling of which thy hands have become supple ]; meaning, what thou hast found to be profitable, or useful. (K, TA.) -A3- رَطَبَ, (aor. رَطُبَ , A,) inf. n. رَطْبٌ, (A'Obeyd, S, A, K) and رُطُوبٌ, (A'Obeyd, S, K,) He fed a horse (or similar beast, K) with [ the trefoil called ] رَطْبَة [q. v.]. 2 رطّب ذ , inf. n. تَرْطِيبٌ, He [or it ] made, or rendered, a thing such as is termed رَطْبٌ and رَطِيبٌ; i. e. [ moist, humid, succulent, sappy, or juicy: or soft, or tender, to chew: and fresh, new, or green: and supple, pliant, or flexible: and soft, or tender, as applied to a branch, or twig, and to plumage, &c.:] contr. of يَا بِس: (S:) he moistened a garment, or piece of cloth, (A, K, TA,) &c.; (TA;) as also ↓ ارطب. (K, TA.) ― -b2- [Hence,] one says, لِسَانِى بِذِكْرِكَ ↓ مَا زِلْتُ أُرْطِبُ (tropical:) [ I have not ceased to make my tongue supple by mentioning thee; meaning I have not ceased to employ my tongue frequently in mentioning thee: or ما زلت أُرَطِّبُ الخ: for] one says also مَا رَطَّبَ لِسَانِى بِذِكْرِكَ اـِلَّا مَا بَلَلْتَنِى بِهِ مِنْ بِرِّكَ (tropical:) [ Nothing has made my tongue to become supple by mentioning thee save what thou hast bestowed upon me of thy bounty ]. (A. [See also 1.]) -A2- Also رطّب, (S, A, K,) inf. n. as above, (S,) He fed people with رُطَب [or fresh ripe dates ]; (S, A, K;) and so ↓ رَطَبَ. (K.) You say, ↓ مَنْ أَرْطَبَ نَخْلُهُ وَلَمْ يُرَطِّبْ خَبُثَ فِعْلُهُ وَلَمْ يَطِبْ [ He whose palm-trees have fresh ripe dates and he does not feed people with such dates, his conduct is bad, and is not good ]. 4 ارطب ذ as a trans. v.: see the next preceding paragraph, in two places. -A2- ارطب البُسْرُ The fullgrown unripe dates became رُطَب [i. e. freshly ripe dates ]: (S, A:) or so ↓ رَطَبَ, and ↓ رَطُبَ, and ↓ رطّب, (K,) of which last the inf. n. is تَرْطِيبٌ: or all signify, attained to the time of ripening: (TA:) or ارطبت البُسْرَةُ signifies the full-grown unripe date had ripening (↓ تَرْطِيب) beginning in it. (Msb.) ― -b2- And ارطب النَّخْلُ The palm-trees had upon them, (S,) or produced, (A,) or attained to the time of having, (K,) dates such as are termed رُطَب. (S, A, K.) See an ex. in the next preceding paragraph. ― -b3- And ارطب القَوْمُ The people had palm-trees that had attained to the time of having such dates: (K:) or ارطب signifies he had abundance of such dates. (A.) ― -b4- [Also] The people became amid fresh green herbage. (Msb.) ― -b5- And ارطبت الأَرْضُ, inf. n. اـِرْطَابٌ, The land had such herbage: (Msb:) or abounded therewith. (A.)

5 تَرَطَّبَ see 1, in two places.

رَطْبٌ ذ and ↓ رَطِيبٌ Contr. of يَابِسٌ (S, Msb, K) and جَافٌّ; i. e. (Msb) moist, humid, succulent, sappy, or juicy: (A, MA, Msb:) or soft, or tender, to chew: (A:) and [ fresh, (agreeably with the Pers. explanation, تَرْ, in the MA,) or] green; applied to herbage: (TA:) or they signify, (Msb,) or signify also, (S, K,) soft, or tender; (S, Msb, K;) applied to a branch, or twig, and to plumage, (S, K,) &c.: (K:) [and] supple, pliant, or flexible. (Msb.) [All these meanings are well known, of frequent occurrence, and implied in the first of the explanations above.] The former occurs in a trad. as an epithet particularly applied to Any article of property [or of provisions] that is not stored up, and will not keep; such as [most kinds of] fruits, and herbs, or leguminous plants: such, IAth says, fathers and mothers and children may eat and give away agreeably with approved usage, without asking permission; but not husbands nor wives [when it belongs to one of them exclusively], without the permission of the owner. (TA.) ― -b2- [Hence,] جَارِيَةٌ رَطْبَةٌ (tropical:) A soft, or tender, [or a sappy, or supple, ] girl, or young woman. (A, K, * TA.) And غُلَامٌ رَطْبٌ (tropical:) A boy, or young man, [ sappy, or soft, or supple, or] femininely soft or supple. (A, K.) And رَجُلٌ رَطْبٌ (tropical:) A soft, or supple, man. (A.) ― -b3- [Hence also,] بِذِكْرِكَ ↓ لِسَانِى رَطِيبٌ (tropical:) [ My tongue is become supple by mentioning thee: and it may also be used as meaning my tongue is become refreshed (lit. moistened ) by mentioning thee ]. (A. [See also 1 and 2.]) ― -b4- And اِمْرَأَةٌ رَطْبَةٌ (tropical:) [ A pliant, or] a vitious, or an unchaste, woman; a fornicatress, or an adulteress. (A.) One says, in reviling, يَا ا@بْنَ الرَّطْبَةِ (tropical:) [ O son of the fornicatress or adulteress ]. (A.) And ↓ يَا رَطَابِ, like قَطَامِ, (tropical:) [meaning O fornicatress or adulteress, رَطَابِ, being indecl., as a proper name in this sense,] is said in reviling a woman or girl. (A, K.) ― -b5- [And يَحْمِلُ الحَطَبَ الرَّطْبَ (tropical:) : see 1 in art. حمل.] ― -b6- And عَيْشٌ رَطْبٌ (tropical:) A soft, a delicate, or an easy, life. (A.) ― -b7- And قَرَأَ القُرْاآنَ رَطْبًا (assumed tropical:) He read, or recited, the Kur-án softly, or gently; not with a loud voice. (TA from a trad) ― -b8- لُؤْلُؤٌ رَطْبٌ is a metonymical expression, meaning (tropical:) Brilliant pearls, beautiful, smooth in the exterior, and perfect in clearness: it does not denote the رُطُوَبة that is the contr. of يُبُوسَة: and similar to this is the expression المَنْدَلُ الرَّطْبُ [app. meaning (tropical:) Fresh and fragrant, or fine, aloes-wood ]. (TA.)

رُطْبٌ ذ (S, A, Mgh, Msb, K, &c.) and ↓ رُطُبٌ (S, K) Herbage, or pasture, (S, A, Mgh,) such as is juicy, fresh, or green: (A, Mgh:) or green pasture, consisting of herbs, or leguminous plants, (T, Msb, K, TA,) of the [ season called ] رَبِيع, (Msb, TA,) and of trees [or shrubs ]: (T, K, TA:) [each] a coll. gen. n.: (TA:) or green herbage in general: (K, TA:) accord. to the Kifáyet el-Mutahaffidh, رُطْبٌ signifies fresh, or juicy, herbage or pasture; (TA;) or, as some say, ↓ رُطْبَةٌ, like غُرْفَةٌ, [though this seems to be the n. un. of رُطْبٌ,] has this last meaning; (Msb;) what is dry being called حَشِيش. (TA.)

رُطَبٌ ذ [ Fresh ripe dates; i. e.] ripe dates (A, Mgh, Msb, K) before they become dry; (Msb, TA;) also called ↓ تَمْرٌ رَطِيبٌ and ↓ مُرْطِبٌ (K, TA) and ↓ مُرَطِّبٌ: (TA:) the dates so called are well known: (S:) [it is a coll. gen, n.:] n. un. with ة: (S, Mgh, Msb, K:) it is not a broken pl. of رُطَبَةٌ, being masc. [as well as fem.] like تَمْرٌ: you say, هٰذَا رُطَبٌ [ These are fresh ripe dates ]; whereas, if it were a broken pl., you would make it [only] fem.: (Sb, TA:) its pl. [of pauc.] is أَرْطَابٌ (S, Msb) and [of mult.] رِطَابٌ; and the pl. of the n. un. is رُطَبَاتٌ. (S.) There are two sorts of رُطَب: one sort cannot be dried, and spoils if not soon eaten: the other sort dries, and is made into عَجْوَة [q. v.]. (Msb.) [See also بُسْرٌ.]

رُطُبٌ ذ : see رُطْبٌ.

رَطْبَةٌ ذ i. q. قَضْبٌ, (S, [in my copy of the Msb قَضْبَة, but this is the n. un. of قَضْبٌ,]) or قَتٌّ, (A,) or اـِسْفِسْتٌ [in Pers. اـِسْفِسْت or اـِسْPِسْت], (Mgh,) or فِصْفِصَةٌ, (K,) [all which signify A species of trefoil, or clover, ] specially (S) while juicy, or fresh, or green, (S, A, Mgh, TA,) before it is dried: (Msb:) or, as some say, a meadow of فصفصة, while continuing green: and ↓ رُطْبَةٌ signifies the same: (TA:) pl. رِطَابٌ: (S, Mgh, Msb:) which is also said to be applied to the cucumber and melon and باذنجان [q. v.] and the like: but [Mtr says] the first is the meaning mentioned in the Lexicons in my hands, and is a sufficient explanation. (Mgh.)

رُطَبِىٌّ ذ [ A seller of رُطَب, or fresh ripe dates: mentioned in the K only as a surname].

رَطِيبٌ ذ : see رَطْبٌ, in two places: and رُطَبٌ.

مُرْطِبٌ ذ : see رُطَبٌ. ― -b2- أَرْضٌ مُرْطِبَةٌ Land abounding with رُطْب [q. v.]. (S, * A, K.)

رَكِيَّةٌ مَرْطَبَةٌ ذ A well of sweet water among wells of salt water. (K.)

مُرَطِّبٌ ذ : see رُطَبٌ.

مَرْطُوبٌ ذ A horse fed with [ the trefoil called ] رَطْبَة. (A.) ― -b2- [And A man fed with رُطَب (or fresh ripe dates ).] -A2- Also (assumed tropical:) A man in whom is softness, or suppleness; مَنْ بِهِ رُطُوبَةٌ; (K;) or صَاحِبُ رُطُوبَةٍ. (S.)

1 رَطَلَ ذ , (O, Msb, K,) aor. رَطُلَ , inf. n. رَطْلٌ, (Msb, TA,) He weighed a thing: (O, TA:) or he put in motion a thing with his hand, (IDrd, O,) or weighed with his hand a thing, (Msb,) or tried a thing, (K,) in order that he might know its weight (IDrd, O, Msb, K) nearly. (Msb.) [See also 2.] But IF says, of this combination of letters and the like, that they are not of the genuine language [of the Arabs]. (O.) -A2- He ran; syn. عَدَا. (O, K.)

2 تَرْطِيلٌ ذ The act of weighing by, or with, أَرْطَال [or pound-weights ]. (K.) [See also 1.] -A2- Also The anointing of the hair, (S, O,) or making it soft, or smooth, (K,) with oil, or ointment, and the crimping (تَكْسِير) thereof: (S, O, K:) and the making it to be loose, and to hang down: (IAar, IAmb, K:) accord. to IAmb, رطّل شَعَرَهُ means he made his hair to be loose, and to hang down: (O:) but accord. to the T, the saying of the vulgar, رَطَّلْتُ شَعَرِى, as meaning رَجَّلْتُهُ, [i. e. I made my hair to be wavy, or somewhat curly; or combed it; or combed it down; &c.;] is a mistake: for ترطيل signifies the act of making the hair soft, or smooth, with oil, or ointment; and wiping it so that it becomes soft, or smooth, and glossy. (TA.)

3 راطل ذَهَبًا بِذَهَبٍ ذ , inf. n. مُرَاطَلَةٌ, He sold by counterpoising gold for gold, and وَرِقًا بِوَرِقٍ coined dirhems for coined dirhems: but [Mtr says] I have not found this except in the “ Muwatta. ” (Mgh.) You say also, بَاعَ مُرَاطَلَةً [ He sold by counterpoising ]. (TA.)

4 ارطل ذ He had a child such as is termed رَطْل [q. v.]: (Ibn-'Abbád, O, K:) or his ears became flabby. (Ibn-'Abbád, K.)

رَطْلٌ ذ (S, O, K) and ↓ رِطْلٌ (K) A man soft, lax, or uncompact; (S, O, K, * TA;) as also ↓ مُرْطِلٌ: (K, TA:) and old and weak: or inclining to softness, and laxness, or uncompactness, and old age: (K:) and a boy slender, slim, or lean, (K, TA,) or, as some say, (TA,) near to attaining puberty, or virility: (K, TA:) or whose bones have not become strong: (K:) or the former, applied to a boy, whose strength has not become fully established; as also ↓ مُرْطَلٌ [thus written with fet-h to the ط]: (O:) pl. رِطَلَةٌ: (O, TA:) and the first, i. e. رَطْلٌ, a man who is foolish; stupid; unsound, or deficient, in intellect or understanding; (K;) fem. with ة: (TA:) one who has not, or possesses not, what suffices; or who is not profitable to any one: and also having flaccid ears: (O:) and, applied to a horse, (Ibn- 'Abbád, O, K,) as also ↓ رِطْلٌ, (K,) or, as some say, the latter only, (TA,) light, (Ibn-'Abbád, O, K, TA,) and weak: (TA:) fem. with ة, (O, K, TA,) in all the senses. (TA.) -A2- [الرَّطْلُ is also explained in the K as syn. with العَدْلُ: but perhaps this is a mistranscription for العَدْوُ, inf. n. of عَدَا: see 1, last sentence.] -A3- See also the next paragraph.

رِطْلٌ ذ and ↓ رَطْلٌ, (S, Mgh, O, Msb, K,) the former of which is the better known, (Msb, TA,) or the more chaste, (O, TA,) [but the latter is that which is now in common use,] A certain thing with which one weighs, (Mgh, O, Msb,) or which one uses as a measure of capacity: (Mgh, Msb:) [or rather both: a pound-weight: and a pint-measure: and also a pound of anything: and a pint of anything:] the half of what is termed مَنًا: (S:) accord. to the standard of Baghdád, twelve ounces; the ounce (أُوقِيَّة) being an اـِسْتَار and two thirds of an استار; and the استار being four مَثَاقِيل and half of a مِثْقَال; and the مثقال being a دِرْهَم and three sevenths of a درهم; and the درهم being six دَوَانِق; and the دَانِق being eight حَبَّات and two fifths of a حَبَّة; so that the رطل is ninety مثاقيل; i. e. a hundred and twenty-eight دَرَاهِم and four sevenths of a درهم (Msb:) or, accord. to A 'Obeyd, a hundred and twenty-eight دراهم of the weight of seven (وَزْنَ سَبْعَةٍ [explained voce دِرْهَمٌ]): (Mgh:) or twelve ounces; the ounce (أُوقِيَّة, i. e. the ounce of the Arabs, TA,) being forty دراهم; (Mgh, K, TA;) so that the whole is four hundred and eighty دراهم: (Mgh, TA:) this is the Syrian رطل: (TA:) and thus it is, accord. to El-Harbee, in the saying, السُّنَّةُ فِى النِّكَاحِ رِطْلٌ [meaning The usage of the Prophet in the case of marriage was to give a رطل of silver]: (Mgh, TA:) so says Az in the T: (Mgh:) or, as is [also] said by Az, it is in this instance twelve ounces and a نَشّ; the نشّ being twenty [دراهم] so that the whole is five hundred دراهم; as is related on the authority of 'Áïsheh: but in a trad. 'Omar, twelve ounces, without the mention of the نشّ: accord. to the lawyers, [however,] when the رطل is mentioned without restriction, what is meant thereby is the رطل of Baghdád: (TA:) [ as a measure of capacity, i. e. a pint, ] it is said in the A [&c.] to be the eighth part of the صَاع; the half of the مُدّ; (TA;) [i. e.] the half of the مَنّ: and hence applied to one of the vessels of the vintner [app. because it contains a pint]: (Har p. 650:) pl. أَرْطَالٌ. مُرْطِلٌ ذ , like مُحْسِنٌ [in measure], (K,) written by Sgh with fet-h, (TA,) i. e. ↓ مُرْطَلٌ, (so in the O,) A tall man. (O, K.) ― -b2- See also رَطْلٌ.

1 رَطَمَهُ ذ , (S, K, TA,) aor. رَطُمَ , (TA,) inf. n. رَطْمٌ, (S, TA,) He made him to stich fast فِى الوَحْلِ [ in the mire ]. (S, TA.) ― -b2- And hence, (TA,) [or رَطَمَهُ فِى أَمْرٍ,] (tropical:) He caused him to be involved in an affair, or a case, from which he could not extricate himself. (K, TA.) ― -b3- [And hence, app.,] رُطِمَ, said of a camel, (assumed tropical:) He had, or was affected with, a suppression of his excrement: (K, TA:) and so, accord. to the K, ↓ أُرْطِمَ; but this is a mistake for اطم [i. e. أُطِمَ or أَطِمَ]. (TA.) ― -b4- رَطَمَ بِسَلْحِهِ, expl. in the K as meaning He ejected his excrement, is a mistake for أَطَمَ. (TA.) ― -b5- رَطَمَ, (S, K, TA,) inf. n. as above, (TA,) also signifies Inivit; (S, TA;) said of a man: (S:) or, [said of a man, and of an ass,] inivit toto veretro immisso, (K, TA,) mulierem, et asinam. (TA.)

8 ارتطم ذ He stuck fast فِى الوَحْلِ [ in the mire ]. (TA.) You say, ارتطمت الدَّابَّةُ فِى الوَحْلِ [ The beast stuck fast in the mire ], and فى الخَبَارِ [ in the soft ground ], (TA in art. تع,) and فى الرَّمْلِ [ in the sand ]. (S and K in that art.) And ارتطمت بِهِ فَرَسُهُ His mare's feet sank [in the mire, or soft ground, or sand,] with him. (TA.) ― -b2- And hence, (TA,) ارتطم فِى أَمْرٍ (tropical:) He became involved in an affair, or a case, from which he could not extricate himself (K, * TA) unless with confusion, or perplexity, cleaving to him. (TA.) ― -b3- And ارتطم عَلَيْهِ أَمْرٌ, (S,) or الأَمْرُ, (K,) (tropical:) An affair, or a case, or the affair, or case, was such that he could not extricate himself from it; (S, K;) it wearied him, and the ways thereof were obstructed against him, so that he could not extricate himself from it. (TA.) ― -b4- And ارتطم It (a thing) was, or became, pressed together, or compressed: and it was, or became, heaped up, piled up, or accumulated, one part upon another; (K;) as also ↓ تراطم. (TA.) -A2- ارتطم السَّلْحَ He suppressed, or retained, the excrement; as also ↓ترطّمهُ. (K.)

رُطْمَةٌ ذ (assumed tropical:) An affair of which one knows not the end, or result, to which it leads, or tends; (K, TA;) an affair in which one struggles, or is agitated, or disturbed; and so ↓ رطومة [app. رُطُومَةٌ]; as in the saying, وَقَعَ فِى رُطْمَةٍ and رطومةٍ [ He fell into an affair in which one struggles, &c.]. (TA.)

رُطَامٌ ذ (assumed tropical:) Suppression of the excrement, in a camel. (K.)

رَطُومٌ ذ A woman wide in the vulva; (S, TA;) as in the saying of a rájiz, يَاا@بْنَ رَطُومٍ ذَاتِ فَرْجٍ عَفْلَقِ for he means [ O son of ] a woman wide in the vulva, having [ a vulva with ] much moisture; though F says, (TA,) it does not signify thus, but narrow in the vulva: (K, TA:) and applied to a she-camel, it has this latter meaning: (AA, K, TA:) and also, applied to a woman, impervia coëunti; syn. رَتْقَاآءُ [q. v.]. (K.) ― -b2- Also Foolish; stupid; or unsound, or deficient, in intellect. (TA.) ― -b3- And White; applied to a domestic hen. (AA, TA.)
