قَادِرٌ ذ , applied to God, i. q. ↓ مُقَدِّرٌ [ Decreeing, appointing, ordaining, deciding ]; (S;) and ↓ قَدِيرٌ may signify the same. (TA.) -A2- See also قَدْرٌ, last signification. -A3- Possessing power, or ability; as also ↓ قَدِيرٌ, (K,) and ↓ مُقْتَدِرٌ: (TA:) or قَدِيرٌ has an intensive signification, and مُقْتَدِرٌ still more so: (IAth:) or ↓ قَدِيرٌ signifies he who does what he will, according to what wisdom requires, not more nor less; and therefore this epithet is applied to none but God; and مُقْتَدِرٌ signifies nearly the same, but is sometimes applied to a human being, and means one who applies himself, as to a task, to acquire power or ability. (El-Basáïr.) When you say اَللّٰهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ [ God is able to do everything; is omnipotent; ] you mean, to do everything that is possible. (Msb.) ― -b2- بَيْنَ أَرْضِكَ وَأَرْضِ فُلَانٍ لَيْلَةٌ قَادِرَةٌ; (Yaakoob, S;) and بَيْنَنَا ليلية قادرة; (K;) Between thy land and the land of such a one is a gentle night's journey; (Yaakoob, S;) and between us is an easy night's journey, in which is no fatigue. (Bd, ii. 28.) -A2- قَدُسَ, aor. قَدُسَ , (TK,) inf. n. قُدْسٌ and قُدُسٌ, (S, A, K,) said of a thing, (TK,) It was, or became, [ holy, accord. to the most common usage, or] pure. (S, * A, * K, * TK.) [It may also be said of God, as meaning, emphatically, He is holy. ]

القُدُّوسُ ذ (S, M, A, Msb, K) and القَدُّوسُ, (S, M, K,) applied to God, (S, M, A, &c.,) as also ↓ المُتَقَدِّسُ (M, A) and ↓ المُقَدَّسُ; (A;) [all of which are nearly syn.;] القدّوس signifies [ The All-holy, All-pure, or All-perfect; ] He who is far removed from every imperfection or impurity, or from everything derogatory from his glory; (M, Msb;) as also المتقدّس [but not in an intensive degree]; (M;) and المقدّس signifies the same as this last; (T, TA;) or from faults and defects: (TA:) or the Pure; (S, * K;) [or the Very Pure: ] or the Blessed; (Ibn-El-Kelbee, K;) [or the Greatly Blessed: ] Sb used to say قَدُّوسٌ and سَبُّوحٌ, with fet-h to the first letter of each: (S:) Th says, (S,) every noun of the measure فعُّول is with fet-h to the first letter, (S, K, *) like سَفُّودٌ and كَلُّوبٌ &c., (S,) except سُبُّوحٌ and قُدُّوسٌ (S) and ذُرُّوحٌ, (S, K, but not as from Th,) and in the K is added فُرُّوجٌ; (TA;) [see سُبُّوحٌ] for these are mostly with damm, though sometimes with fet-h: (S, K: *) Lh says, all agree in pronouncing سبّوح and قدّوس with damm, though fet-h is allowable; (M;) but Az denies this agreement: (TA:) and Lh adds, that all other words of the measure فعُّول are with fet-h. (M.) ― -b2- المُقَدَّسُ, applied to God: see القُدُّوسُ. ― -b3- البَيْتُ المُقَدَّسُ, (K,) and بَيْتُ المُقَدَّسِ, (S, K,) and [more commonly] بَيْتُ ↓ المَقْدِسِ, (M, A, K,) which [i. e. المَقْدِس] is either formed from مُقَدَّسٌ by rejecting the augmentative letter, or is a subst. not formed from a verb, like as Sb says of المَنْكِبُ, (M,) [signifying The hallowed, or consecrated, or purified, or blessed, dwelling; or the dwelling of the hallowed, &c.; are appellations of Jerusalem; ] also called ↓ القُدْسُ [which is the name generally given to it in the present day] and ↓ القُدُسُ; (A, K;) because one is purified therein from sins, or because of the blessing that is therein. مُقَدِّسٌ ذ A Christian monk [or any Christian or a Jew] who comes [or goes or performs pilgrimage or has performed pilgrimage ] to القُدْس or بَيْت المَقْدِس [i. e. Jerusalem ]: (A:) or a Christian monk: (K:) or a [ learned Jew or other, such as is called ] حَبْر. (M, TA.) Imra-el-Keys says, describing dogs and a [wild] bull, فَأَدْرَكْنَهُ يَأْخُذْنَ بِالسَّاقِ وَالنَّسَا كَمَا شَبْرَقَ الوِلْدَانُ ثَوْبَ المُقَدِّسِ And they (the dogs) overtook him, (namely, the bull,) seizing the shank and the sciatic vein, and tearing his skin, as the children of the Christians tear the garment of the monk that has come from بَيْت المَقْدِس, [or Jerusalem ] for the purpose of obtaining a blessing from it: thus the verse is found in the handwriting of Aboo-Sahl; but in all the copies of the S, we find ثَوْبَ المُقَدَّسِى, with ى. 1 قَذَّ الرِّيشَ ذ (S, M, A, L,) [aor. قَذُ3َ ,] inf. n. قَذٌّ, (K,) He cut the edges, or extremities, of the feathers, (S, M, A, L, K,) [ for the arrow, or arrows, ] with the instrument called مِقَذّ, (A,) and made them (حَذَّفَهُ, M, L, [in the K, تَحْرِيفُهُ is put for تَحْذِيفُهُ]) of the suitable dimensions, (عَلَى نَحْوِ الحَذْوِ والتَّقْدِيرُ, M, [in the L and K, التَّدْوِير is put for التَّقْدِير, and in the K الحذو and the foll. conjunction are omitted,]) and even. أَقَذُّ ذ An arrow without feathers upon it; (T, S, M, A, L, K;) like as أَفْوَقُ, applied to an arrow, signifies “ having no notch: ” (L:) or of which the feathers have fallen off: (L:) or just pared, before it is feathered: (Lh, M, L:) also, a feathered arrow: or (in the K, and) that is evenly pared, without any deviation from a straight shape: (M, L, K: *) pl. قُذٌّ: and pl. of قُذٌّ, قِذَاذٌ. (S, L. [See an ex. voce أَحْشَنُ.]) ― -b2- مَا لَهُ أَقَذُّ وَلَا مَرِيشٌ He has not anything: (M, L, K:) or he has not either property or people. (Lh, M, L, K.) A proverb. It is said in a trad., قَذِرْتُ لَكُمْ جَوَّالَ القُرَى [ I dislike, for you, what goes round about the towns, or villages ], meaning, I dislike, for you, oxen and cows that eat filth; therefore do not ye eat them. (Mgh.) And El-'Ajjáj says وَقَذَرِى مَا لَيْسَ بِمَقْذُورِ (tropical:) [ And my disliking what was not disliked ], meaning, that he had come to dislike (يَقْذَرُ) the food which he did not dislike in his youth. You say هُوَ يَتَنَزَّهُ عَنِ القَذَرِ, and ↓ القَاذُورَاتِ, (Msb,) and الأَقْذَارِ, (S,) [ He shuns, avoids, or removes himself far from, that which is unclean, and unclean things, or foul conduct, and foul actions; preserves himself therefrom. ] And ا@لَّتِى نَهَى ↓ اـِجْتَنِبُوا القَاذُووَرَاتِ ا@للّٰهُ عَنْهَا Shun ye, or avoid ye, the foul actions, such as adultery, or fornication, and the like, which God hath forbidden.
