لَعْوَةٌ ذ A hunting bitch. (L, art. عقد.)

3 لَاغَذَهُ ذ i. q. ضَايَقَهُ. (TA, voce ذَاقَنَهُ.)

لُغَامٌ ذ : see an ex. in a verse cited voce تَرَغَّمَ.

لُغْنُونٌ ذ The sides, or adjacent parts, (النَوَاحِى) of the لَهَاة, impending (مُشْرِفَة) over the حَلْق [or throat ]; as also لَغَانِينٌ: (JK:) see غُنْدُبَةٌ, and لُغْدٌ.

لُغْنُونَةٌ ذ : see غُنْدُبَةٌ.

3 لَاغَاهُ ذ He jested, or joked, with him; inf. n. مُلَاغَاةٌ. (A, TA.) You say, لَاغَاهُ فِى البَيْعِ. (A, TA, art. كيس.)

لَغْوٌ ذ , applied to speech, &c., Nought; of no account; (M, K;) unprofitable. (M.) ― -b2- اليَمِينُ اللَّغْوُ: see KT, voce يَمِينٌ.

اللُّغَةُ ذ The genuine language of the Arabs; which is the classical language.

لُغَوِىٌّ ذ Of, or relating to, the genuine language of the Arabs. مَعْنًى لُغَوِىٌّ A genuine lexicological meaning.

لُغَيَّةٌ ذ A word of weak authority. (TA, voce جِرَاب, et passim.)

لَاغٍ ذ : see مَائِرٌ.

1 لَفَّ ذ He folded, or rather wrapped; folded up, or rather wrapped up, or rolled up, a thing in another thing. ― -b2- لَفَّ العَدُوَّ [app. He involved the enemy ( in difficulty ), or entangled him: ] said with reference to war, and excellence of judgment, and knowledge of the case of the enemy, and the subduing him, with the infliction of many wounds. (L, in TA, voce عَمَتَهُ.) But see عَمَتَ.

8 اِلْتَفَّ ذ It (herbage) tangled; became confused, and caught, one part to another: (Msb:) or became luxuriant, or abundant; (S;) it (a collection of trees) became luxuriant, or abundant, and close together: (AHn:) [or thickly intermixed: ] it (a thing) became collected together, and dense; (TA:) best rendered tangled, or luxuriant, or abundant and dense. ― -b2- اِلْتَفَّ and ↓ تَلْفَفَّ He wrapped, or enwrapped, himself in, or with, a garment; (KL, PS;) i. q. اِشْتَمَلَ. (Msb.) ― -b3- اِلْتَفَّ وَجْهُ الغُلَامِ means اِتَّصَلَتْ لِحْيَتُهُ [i. e. The face of the young man became continuous, or uninterrupted, in its beard ]. (TA.) ― -b4- اِلْتَفَّ It (an affair) became complicated.

لَفٌّ ونَشْرٌ ذ in rhetoric, [ Complication and explication, involution and evolution; i. e., a construction in which two or more words are mentioned, and, after them, two or more other words, as epithets, &c., referring to the former. لفّ ونشر مُرَتَّبٌ, Involution and evolution regularly disposed, is when the order of the latter words agrees with that of those to which they refer. لفّ ونشر مَعْكُوسٌ, or مُشَوَّشٌ, Involved, or disordered, involution and evolution, is when the order of the latter words is contrary to that of those to which they refer]. (TA, passim.) See Har, p. 383.

لُفَّةٌ ذ i. q. لُقْمَةٌ: see صُفَّةٌ, last sentence.

لَفَّاآءُ ذ A thick thigh: see a verse voce تَسَاهَمُوا.

فُلَانٌ مِنْ لَفِيفِنَا وَضَفِيفِنَا ذ : see art. ضف.

لِفَافَةٌ ذ A wrapper for the leg or foot &c. (S, K.) ― -b2- And A pericarp; a glume, and the like; an envelope: pl. لَفَائِفُ.

لَفِيفَةٌ ذ A lock (خُصْلَةٌ) of hair. (S, voce خُصْلَةٌ.)

نَاقَةٌ مُلَفَّفَةُ السَّنَامِ ذ [ A she-camel having the hump much enveloped with fur: see اِلْتَفَّ وجْهُ الغُلَامِ]. (Ibn-'Abbád, O, K, voce عُلْفُوفٌ q. v.)

مُلْتَفُّ الخَلْقِ ذ A man having a well-knit frame; compact in make. (L, art. مسد.)

التَّلَفُّعُ ذ : see اشْتَمَلَ.

1 لَفَقَ الثَّوْبَ ذ He joined and sewed together, or put together and sewed, the two oblong pieces of cloth of the garment; (S, Msb, K;) and ↓ لَفَّقَ, inf. n. تَلْفِيقٌ, signifies the same, and is more common; or has an intensive signification. (TA.) ― -b2- See also Har, pp. 253 and 254. ― -b3- ↓ تَلْفِيقٌ The bringing, or putting, together. (KL.) And The making suitable, or conformable. (KL.) ― -b4- And The speaking, or telling, what is untrue, or false: (KL:) the embellishing [of speech] with lies. (Har, p. 254.) ― -b5- لَفَقَ He felled (a seam or garment).

2 لَفَّقَ see 1. ― -b2- لَفَّقَ بَيْنَ الكَلَامِ, (JK, voce رَسَّغَ, &c.,) inf. n. تَلْفِيقٌ, (K, voce تَرْسِيغٌ, &c.,) He interlarded, or embellished, the speech, or discourse, with falsehood: see the pass. part. n. مُلَفَّقَةٌ: and see رَسَّغَ, and رَبِقَ, and رَمَّقَ.

5 تَلَفَّقَ بِهِ ذ : see تَأَفَّقَ.

لِفْقَانِ ذ Two pieces which compose a مُلَاآءَة, (Mgh, Msb, TA, in art. ريط,) being joined together, (Mgh, TA, in that art.,) by sewing or the like. (TA in that art.)

لِفَاقٌ ذ : see رَدِيمَةٌ.

أَحَادِيثُ مُلَفَّقَةٌ ذ Narrations, or stories, compounded, or combined, with falsehood; embel-lished [or interlarded ] therewith: and put together. (MA, Har, p. 254.) ― -b2- شُقَّةٌ مُلَفَّقَةٌ: see بَِصيرَةٌ.

لِفَامٌ ذ A kind of woman's face-veil. See نِقَابٌ.

6 تَلَافَاهُ ذ i. q. تَدَارَكَهُ [ He repaired it; a meaning well known]; (S, Msb, K, TA;) namely, a short-coming; or failing, or falling short, of what was requisite, or due; and an inconsistent act. (TA.) You say, هٰذَا أَمْرٌ لَا يُتَلَافَى [ This is an affair that will not be repaired ]. (TA.) And تَلَافَى أَمْرَهُمْ بِالصُّلْحِ [ He repaired their condition by peace, or reconciliation ]. (EM, p. 117.) See دَقَّهُ

لَفَاةٌ ذ : see لفَاتٌ.

لَقٌّ ذ A fissure in a rock. (AA, in TA, voce ثَتٌّ.) ― -b2- لَقٌّ بَقٌّ and لَقْلَاقٌ بَقْبَاقٌ: see بَقَاقٌ.

1 لَقِفَهُ ذ He seized it, or took it quickly; (S, M, K;) namely, a thing thrown to him with the hand, or said to him. (M, TA.) See also last sentence of 1 in art. حنك.

5 تَلَقَّفَهُ مِنْ فَمِهِ ذ He caught it and retained it quickly, [i. e., what he said,] from his mouth. (TA.)

1 لَقِمَ لُقْمَةً ذ , [aor. لَقَمَ ,] inf. n. لَقْمٌ, (JK, MS,) [ He gobbled a gobbet, or morsel, or mouthful, or] he swallowed the gobbet; and so ↓ اِلْتَقَمَهَا. (S.) لَقِمَهُ, aor. لَقَمَ , (Msb, K, &c.,) inf. n. لَقْمٌ, (JK, MA, K, MS, JM,) or لَقَمٌ (Msb, [app. a mistake,]) He gobbled it; i. e., ate it quickly, (Msb, K, TA,) as also ↓ اِلْتَقَمَهُ, (Msb, [see above,]) and hastily; drew it with his mouth, and ate it quickly. (TA) ― -b2- لَقِمَ بِيَدِهِ He put morsels into his mouth (i. e., his own mouth) with his hand. See an ex. voce رَقَعَ. This seems to be the primary signification.

2 لَقَّمَهُ الطَّعَامَ ذ and اـِيَّاهُ ↓ أَلْقَمَهُ [ He fed with the food by the mouthful; put it into his mouth by the mouthful ]: (Msb:) or لَقَّمَهُ اـِيَّاهُ and ↓ أَلْقَمَهُ اـِيَّاهُ he put a mouthful [ of it ] into his mouth. (TA.) And لَقَّمَهُ and ↓ أَلْقَمَهُ [ He fed him by the mouthful; put mouthfuls into his mouth ]. (S.)

4 أَلْقَمَ ذ He put morsels into the mouth of [such a one]. See 2. ― -b2- أَلْقَمْتُهُ الحَجَرَ (assumed tropical:) I silenced him in an altercation. (Msb.) ― -b3- أَلْقَمَهُ البِرْطِيلَ; see the latter word.

5 تَلَقَّمَ اللُّقْمَهَ ذ He swallowed the gobbet, or morsel, or mouthful, in a leisurely manner. (S, TA.)

8 اـِلْتَقَمَ see 1. ― -b2- اِلْتَقَمَ فَاهَا فِى التَّقْبِيلِ [ He took her mouth within his lips in kissing ]. (S in art. كعم.) Hence the verb signifies (assumed tropical:) It embraced, or clasped, a thing: see an instance, voce مِحْصَنٌ.

لُقْمَةٌ ذ A morsel, gobbet, or mouthful: what is [ swallowed, or] eaten quickly, at once, of bread [&c.]; like as جُرْعَةٌ signifies what is swallowed at once in drinking: (Msb:) or what is prepared to be [ swallowed, or] eaten quickly [ at once ]. (K, TA.) ― -b2- لُقْمَةٌ القَاضِى, and لُقْمَةُ الخَلِيفَةِ: see زُمَاوَرْدٌ, art. ورد; and مُيَسَّرٌ.

لُقَيْمَاتُ القَاضِى ذ Same as لُقَمَاتُ القاضى.

3 لَاقَنَهُ ذ i. q. ضَايَقَهُ. (TA voce ذَاقَنَهُ.)

لَقَنٌ ذ , arabicised from [the Persian] لَقَنْ [also written لَكَنْ]. A thing [or basin ] resembling a طَسْت, of صُفْر [or brass ]. (TA.) See اـِجَّانَهٌ.

1 لَقِيَهُ ذ He met him, or it. (Msb.) ― -b2- And He [ met with, or] found him, or it. (Msb.) You say, تَلْقاهُمٌ أُسْدًا [ Thou will find them lions ]. (Mughnee, voce اـِنَّ.) See also لِقَآءٌ. ― -b3- لَقِيتُهُ and ↓ لَاقَيْتُهُ I came near to him, facing him: came to face his face. near to him (Ksh, in ii. 13.) ― -b4- لَقِيَهُ بِمَكْرُوهِ (K in art. حبه, &c.) He [ encountered with him, or said to him, or did to him, a thing disliked, or hated: (TK in art. جبه:) like استقبلهُ بِمَا يَكْرَهُ.

2 لَقَّاهُ شَرًّا ذ [ He made him to experience evil treatment ]. (TA in art. جدع, voce جَدَّعَ.) See below; and see مُلَقًّى. ― -b2- يُلَقَّوْنَ تَحِيَّةً They shall be greeted with prayer for length of life, or everlasting existence. (Bd in xxv. 75.)

3 لَاقَاهُ ذ [ He met him face to face; had an interview with him; ] i. q. قَابَلَهُ. (TA.) See 1. ― -b2- لَاقَى He experienced pain &c. See an ex. voce دَبِرٌ; and voce اآلٌ: like لَقِىَ, voce اآلٌ. ― -b3- لَاقَى بَيْنَ طَرَفَى اـِزَارِهِ وَشَدَّهُ [ He made the two ends of his ازار to meet, and tied it ]. (A, art. حجز.)

4 أَلْقَاهُ ذ He threw it where he would find it. (Er-Rághib.) ― -b2- And hence, conventionally, He threw it in any way: (Er-Rághib:) he threw it on the ground: (Mgh:) [ he put it: ] أَلْقَىْتُ انمَتَاعَ عَلَى الدَّابَّةِ I put the goods upon the beast. (Msb.) ― -b3- أَلْقَتْ وَلَدَهَا She cast her young one, or her young. ― -b4- أَلْقَى also signifies He let fall a thing, a curtain, &c. ― -b5- أَلْقَيْتُ اـِلَيْهِ خَيْرًا (assumed tropical:) I did good to him. (TA.) And أَلْقَيْتُ اـِلَيْهِ المُوَدَّةَ and بَالمَوَدَّةِ (assumed tropical:) [ I offered or tendered to him, or gave or granted him, love, or affection ]. (TA.) ― -b6- أَلْقَى عَلَيْهِ رَخَمَتَهُ (assumed tropical:) [ He made his love, &c., to fall, or light, upon him, i. e. he bestowed it upon him ]. (K, TA in art. رخم. [See this and three similar exs. voce رَخَمٌ.]) ― -b7- أَلْقَى اـِلَيْهِ السَّلَامَ He offered to him salutation, or submission: see سِلْمٌ. ― -b8- شَرَبَ مَا أُلْقِىَ اـِلَيْهِ: see art. شرب. ― -b9- أَلْقَيْتُ اـِلَيْهِ القَوْلَ and بَالقَوْلِ I told, or communicated, to him the saying. (Msb.) ― -b10- أَلْقى عَلَيْهِ شَرَاشِرَهُ: see art. شر. ― -b11- أَلْقَاهُ عَلَيْهِ He put it into his mind; he suggested it: القاه [thus used] is said of God and of the Devil. (Kull, p. 277, in explanation of الفيض. [See 1 in art. فَيْضُ, last sentence but one.]) ― -b12- [And] He dictated it; (Msb;) namely, a writing to the writer. (Msb, in art. مل.) ― -b13- أَلْقَى اـِلَىَّ سِرَّهُ [ He revealed to me his secret ]. (TA, art. سر.) ― -b14- لَا أُلْقِى اـِلَيْهِ بَالًا: see art. بول. ― -b15- أَلْقَى بِنَفْسِهِ, said of night (اللَّيْلُ): see رَبَضَ. ― -b16- أَلْقَى اـِلَيْهِ كَلَامًا He addressed to him speech.

5 تَلَقَّاهُ مِنْهُ ذ He received it from him. (TA.) ― -b2- تَلَقَّى i. q. تَلَقَّنَ. (Bd in l. 16.)
