8 اِلْتَقَى مَسْلَكَاهَا ذ [ Her vagina and rectum met together in one, by the rending of the part between,] on the occasion of devirgination. (M, in art. اتم.)

10 اِسْتَلْقَى ذ He lay, syn. نَامَ, (K,) upon the back of his neck. (JK, S, K.) And It (any. thing) was [or lay ] as though thrown down or extended. (T, JK, TA.)

لَقًى ذ Muscles of the flesh. (TA, art. ضيج.) ― -b2- لَقًى بَقًى: see بَقَاقٌ.

لِقَاآءٌ ذ The facing a thing. [ encountering it: ] and meeting it, meeting with it, or finding it: and perceiving it by the sense, and by the sight. (Er-Rághib, TA.) ― -b2- لِقَاآءٌ: its predominant application is Encounter, i. e. conflict, fight, battle, or war. (Mgh.) ― -b3- يَوْمُ اللِّقَاآءِ The day of encounter in fight &c.

بَيْعُ اـِلْقَاآءِ الحَجَرِ ذ : see نَابَذَهُ, and art. لمس.

وَجَدْتُ هٰذَا من تِلْقَاآءِكَ ذ I experienced this from thee, or on thy part; syn. مِنْ جِهَتِكَ and مِنْ قِبَلِكَ. (Mgh in art. قبل.) هٰذَا الأَمْرُ مِنْ تِلْقَائِهِ This thing, or affair, is from him; syn. مِنْ عِنْدِهِ; as also مِنْ قِبَلِهِ and مِنْ لَدُنْهُ. (Lth, in TA in art. قبل.) ― -b2- تَلْقَاآءَ In the direction that meets or faces. (El-Khafájee, TA.) You say, تَوَجَّهَ تِلْقَاآءَ فُلَانٍ [ He went towards such a one ], and تِلْقَاآءَ النَّارِ [ in the direction of, or towards, the fire ]. (K.) And جلست تِلْقَاآءَهُ I sat over against him, or opposite to him. (S.) And وَقَفَ تِلْقَاآءَ البَيْتِ He stopped facing the house. (Msb.) ― -b3- تِلْقَاآءُ القِبْلَةِ [ The direction of the Kibleh ]. (M, K, voce اـِمْامٌ.) -A2- See بَيَّنَهُ.

مَلَاقِى الفَزْجِ ذ [pl. of مَلْقًى,] The narrow, or strait, parts of the pudendum muliebre. (TA in art. لحم.) ― -b2- ا@لْمَلَاقِى The horizontal slabs in which is the aperture in a privy.

مُلَقًّى ذ Greeted: see بُلَهْنِيَةٌ, in art. بله.

1 لكَّهُ ذ He pushed him, or thrust him; like دَكَّهُ and صَكَّهُ. (As, TA in art. دك.)

لِكَاكٌ ذ A pressing, or crowding: see an ex. voce عَكَّهٌ.

لَكْزٌ ذ [inf. n. of لَكَزَهُ] i. q. طَعْنٌ, like لَزٌّ. (TA, art. لز.)

لَكْمَهٌ ذ A blow with the fist.

لُكْنَةٌ ذ An impotence, or impediment, or a difficulty, in speech or utterance; (Msb;) a barbarousness, or viciousness, and an impotence, or impediment, in speech: (S:) or the not speaking Arabic rightly, by reason of a barbarousness, or viciousness, in the tongue: (K:) or the interposing of [ words of ] a foreign language in one's speech. (Mbr, TA.) See تَهْتَهَةٌ; and عُجْمَةٌ, with which it is syn.

لٰكِنْ ذ , with the ن quiescent, has no government. ― -b2- It means But after a negative proposition: but not after an affirmative: see اـِلَّا.

1 لَمَّ ا@للّٰهُ شَعَثَهُ ذ God rectified, or repaired, and consolidated, what was disorganized, disordered, or unsettled, of his affairs. (S.)

2 لَمَّمَ ذ He made a لِمَّة of his hair. (Z, TA in art. جم.)

4 أَلَمَّ بِالقَوْمِ ذ He came to the people, and alighted at their abode as a guest. (Msb.) See أَطَافَ. ― -b2- And hence, أَلَمَّ بِالمَعْنَى (assumed tropical:) He knew the meaning. (Msb.) ― -b3- And أَلَمَّ بَالذَّنْبِ (assumed tropical:) He committed the sin, or offence. (Msb.) ― -b4- And أَلَمَّ He, or it, visited covertly; (Ham, p. 23;) or in a light, slight, or hasty manner. (Idem, pp. 385 and 815.) It became near. (Msb.) ― -b5- It happened. (Ham, p. 385.) ― -b6- أَلَمَّ بِهِ He came to him. (Ham, p. 127.) ― -b7- I. q. زَارَهُ غِبًّا; as also أَلَمَّ عَلَيْهِ. (TA.)

8 اِلْتَمَّ ذ It was collected, accumulated. ― -b2- التمّوا They collected themselves; congregated.

لَمْ ذ with an aor. following it is often to be rendered in English by the preterperfect: ex., لَمْ أَرَهُ مُذُ يَوْمَانِ I have not seen him for two days. ― -b2- لَمْ يَضْرِبْ He did not beat. (S, &c.) See also لَمَّا. ― -b3- أَلَمْ: see the latter half of art. أَلَا; and the former part of art. أَمَا. ― -b4- لَمَّا as a particle of exception [is equivalent to our But; meaning both except and, after an oath or the like, only, or nothing more than; and] is put before a nominal proposition; as, اـِنْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌ [ There is not any soul but over it is a guardian, (Kur lxxxvi. 4,)] accord. to those who pronounce the م with teshdeed: and before a verb which is literally, but not in meaning, a preterite; as in أَنْشُدُكَ ا@للّٰهَ لَمَّا فعَلْتَ [ I conjure, or beg, or beseech, thee by God but that thou do such a thing], i. e. مَا أَسْأَلُكَ اـَلَّا فِعْلَكَ [ I do not ask of thee anything save thy doing such a thing ]. (Mughnee.) See its syn. اـِلَّا. In the Kur xxxviii. 13, accord. to one reading, it occurs before a verb which is a preterite literally and in meaning. ― -b5- لَمَّا, accord. to Ibn-Málik, is syn. with اـِذْ: [and sometimes, like اـِذْ, it means Since, or because: ] one may say, لَمَّا أَكْرَمْتَنِى أَمْسِ أَكْرَمْتُكَ اليَوْمَ: but this is said to mean لَهَّا ثَبَتَ اليَوْمَ اـِكْرَامُكَ لِى أَمْسِ أَكْرَمْتُكَ. (Mughnee.) See also an ex. voce رَزَقَ. ― -b6- لَمَّا يَضْرِبْ He has not yet beaten. (S, &c.) See also لَمْ.

لَمَمٌ ذ A slight insanity or diabolical possession; (Mgh, Msb:) a slight taint or infection of insanity. See طَيْفٌ.

لَمَّةٌ ذ A touch, or somewhat [ of a taint or an infection of insanity ], from the jinn. (S, K.) See لَمَمٌ.

لِمَّةٌ ذ Hair that descends below the lobe of the ear. (S, K.) But see وَفْرَةٌ: and see a tropical use of it in a verse of Kumeyt cited in art. حف, p. 597 c.

مِلَمٌّ ذ : see مِثَمٌّ.

مُلِمَّةٌ ذ A misfortune that befalls in the present world. (S.) See an ex. in a verse cited voce حَجَا.

مُلَمَّمٌ ذ A boy having a لِمَّة. (IDrd, TA, voce مُجَمَّمٌ.)

1 لَمَعَ ذ It (lightning, &c.) shone; shone brightly; gleamed; glistened. (S, Msb, K.) ― -b2- لَمَعَ بِيَدِهِ, (K, TA,) and بِثَوْبِهِ, (TA, S, K, &c., in art. خفق &c.,) and بِسَيْفِهِ, (TA,) He signalled, or made a sign, with his hand or arm, (K, TA,) and with his garment, and with his sword; or did so for the purpose of information or warning; by raising it, and moving it about, [or waving it, or brandishing it, i. e., he waved it as a sign or signal, ] in order that another might see it, and come to him; as also ↓ أَلْمَعَ; but the former is the more approved; [ i. q. Lat. micuit; ] and sometimes the verb is used without the mention of the hand or arm [&c.]. (TA.) See a verse cited voce فَرْضٌ. ― -b3- لَمَعَ بِسَيْفِهِ, (S, and K, art. لوح,) and بِثَوْبِهِ, (S, ibid, and S, K, &c., in art. خفق.) He made a sign with his sword, and with his garment, [ waving it about, to make it seen by some one whom he desired to see it ]. (S, K.)

4 أَلْمَعَ بِيَدِهِ ذ , &c.: see 1.

8 اِلْتَمَسَهُ ذ He sought, or asked, or demanded, it. (S, K.) He sought it out.

لُمْعَةٌ ذ A shining, glistening, or glossy, appearance, [or hue, ] of the body: (K:) any colour different from another colour [ in which it is ]; (TA;) [ a spot of colour ]. ― -b2- [Primarily] A portion of herbage beginning to dry up. (S, Msb, K.)

تَلَامِيعُ ذ : see ابْرِيقٌ in the K, and my rendering in explaining the latter word, s. v.

لَمَاقٌ ذ : see عَلَاقٌ, voce عُلْقَةٌ.

لَنْجَرٌ ذ An anchoring-place, a harbour, or a port, (مَرْسًى,) for ships. (TA.) Occurring in the K art. رسو. (TA.)

لَهْذَمٌ ذ A sharp spear-head: see an ex. in a verse of Zuheyr, cited voce زُجٌّ.

لِهْزِمَةٌ ذ accord. to different authorities, app. The angle of the lower jaw: or the ramus thereof: or the flesh upon the hinder part thereof. See مَحْزُونٌ.

1 لُهِطَ بِهِ ذ He, or it, was cast, or thrown. (TA in art. خشف.)

1 لَهِفَ عَلَيْهِ ذ , (inf. n. لَهْفٌ, S,) and ↓ تَلَهَّفَ, He grieved for it, or at it; regretted it; syn. جَزِنَ and تَحَسَّرَ; (S, K;) meaning a thing that had escaped him after he been at the point of attaining it: (JK, TA:) or he grieved for it, or at it; or regretted it; and was angry, or enraged, on account of it. (TA.) But see تَحَسَّرَ; and see S, voce أَسِفَ. ― -b2- تلهّف signifies He felt, or expressed, grief, sorrow, or regret.

يَا لَهْفَ ذ O the grief! see an ex. in art. خطأ, conj. 4.

لَهْفَةٌ ذ Greediness; voracity; eagerness.

مَلْهُوفٌ ذ Greedy; ravenous; eager; عَلَى or اـِلَى for a thing.

4 أَلْهَمَهُ ا@للّٰهُ لِلْخَيْرِ ذ [ God directed him by inspiration to that which was good, or to prosperity ] (TA, art. وفق) ― -b2- أَلْهَمَهُ اـِيَّاهُ He suggested it to him; (in the order of the words, he suggested to him it; ) he put it into his mind.

8 اِلْتَهَمَ ذ He gulped.

لَاهُمَّ ذ and اللّٰهُمَّ: see اللّٰهُ.

1 لَهِىَ عَنْهُ ذ , (S, Msb, K) and لَهَا عنه (Msb, K,) He became diverted from it, so as to forget it. (S, Msb, K.) ― -b2- See an ex. voce استأثر: and see عَنْ. ― -b3- لَهَتْ اـِلَى حَدِيثِهِ, inf. n. لَهْوٌ and لُهُوٌّ, She (a woman) was, or became, cheered, or delighted, and pleased, with his discourse. (M, K.) And so لَهَوْتُ بِحَدِيثِهِ. (T in art. رنو.)

4 أَلْهَانِى الشَّىْءُ ذ The thing diverted me; syn. شَغَلَنِى. (Msb.) ― -b2- أَلْهَاهُ بَالغِنَاآءِ [ He diverted him by singing ]. (S, art. سمد.)

5 تَلَهَّى بَالشَّىْءِ ذ i. q. تَعَلَّلَ: (TA:) and أُولِعَ بِهِ. (Msb.) ― -b2- And تَلِّهَى He diverted himself. (TA.)

لَهْوٌ ذ Diversion; pastime; sport; play: or especially, such as is vain, or frivolous; idle sport: (from various explanations:) what occupies a man so as to divert him from that which would render him sad or solicitous, &c.: (TA:) or relief of the mind by means which wisdom does not require: this [it is said] is the original signification: (Et-Tarasoosee, Msb:) a thing in which a man delights himself, and which occupies him so as to divert him, and then ceases. (KT.) It has a more general application than لَعِبٌ: for ex., the hearing of musical instruments or the like is لَهْوٌ, but not لَعْبٌ. (TA.) ― -b2- اآلَةُ لَهْوٍ [ An instrument of diversion, meaning, of music ]. (K voce رَبَابٌ.)

لَهَاةٌ ذ [The uvula; ] the red piece of flesh that hangs down from the upper حَنَكِ. (Zj, in his Khalk el-Insán.) See also الأَسَالِقُ, and شِقْشِقةٌ. ― -b2- اللَهُاة [generally expl. as meaning The uvula: or] what is between the end of the root of the tongue and the end of the قَلْب [thus in all the copies of the K that I have seen, an evident mistranscription for قَلْت, i. e. hollow ] of the upper part of the mouth (K: [app. meaning the arches, or pillars, of the soft palate; agreeably with the next explanation here following:]) or the furthest part of the mouth: [see غُنّةٌ:] and, of the he-camel, the شِقْشِقَة [i. e. bursa faucium ]. (JK.) See also a usage of the pl., لَهَواتٌ, in the last explanation of قَلْتٌ.

لُهْوَةٌ ذ What is thrown, [i. e. the quantity of corn that is thrown, ] (S, K,) by the grinder, with his hand, (S,) into the mouth of the mill or millstone. (S, K.) And The mouth [ itself ] of the mill or mill-stone. (IKtt, TA; and S voce اخُرٌّ.)

لَوْ ذ : see مَصْدَرِيَّةٌ. ― -b2- It is used as an optative particle, لِلتَّمَنِّى. See Kur, ii. 162; and Jel, ibid. See also كَرَّةٌ. ― -b3- لَوْ كَانَ هٰذَا لَكَانَ ذَاكَ Had this been, or if this were, that had been, or would have been. ― -b4- صَلِّ وَلَوْ عَجَزْتَ عَنِ القِيَامِ means [ Pray thou though thou be unable to stand; i. e.] pray thou whether thou be able to stand or unable to do so. (Msb in art. ان.) ― -b5- See also exs. voce أَنَّ, and بَلَّ. ― -b6- لَوْ often begins a sentence ending with an aposiopesis. ― -b7- لَوْ meaning أَنْ: see وَدَّ. ― -b8- لَوْ تُسَوَّى بِهِمُ الأَرْضُ: see بِ as syn. with عَلَى.
