أَسْوَدُ صَالِخٌ ذ i. q. أَسْوَدُ سَالِخٌ [q. v.], A certain species of serpents, that casts off its slough. (AHát, L.) ― -b2- And جَرَبٌ صَالِخٌ i. q. سَالِخٌ [i. e. Excoriating mange or scab ]: (K, TA:) it is such as occurs in the hinder part of the camel, and one doubts not its extending over the whole of his body. (TA.)

(S, A. *) -A2- Also A camel affected with mange, or scab: [or having mange, or scab, by which he is excoriated: like أَسْلَخُ:] fem. صَلْخَاآءُ: and pl. صَلْخَى. And صَلَدَ عَلَيْهِ الجَبَلُ, aor. صَلِدَ , inf. n. صَلْدٌ; and صَلُدَ, [aor. صَلُدَ ,] inf. n. صَلَادَةٌ and صُلُودَةٌ and صُلُودٌ; The mountain, or rock, baffled him, namely, a welldigger, [ by its hardness, ] and resisted his efforts. (Ham p. 407.) ― -b3- And [hence,] صَلَدَتْ زِنَادُهُ [lit. “ His pieces of stick, or wood, for producing fire, gave a sound without emitting fire ”] means (tropical:) He was, or became, niggardly, tenacious, penurious, or avaricious: (AA, L, TA:) and صَلُدَ, alone, aor. صَلُدَ , (M, A, K,) inf. n. صَلَادَةٌ; (M, A;) and صَلَدَ, (M, A,) aor. صَلِدَ , (M,) or صَلُدَ , (A,) inf. n. صَلْدٌ, (M,) or صُلُودٌ; (A;) and ↓ صلّد, inf. n. تَصْلِيدٌ; (K;) signify the same: (M, K:) or he was, or became, very niggardly &c. (A.) ― -b4- And صَلَدَتْ صَلَعَتُهُ, or صَلْعَتُهُ, (accord. to different copies of the K, in the TA the former,) The bald place on the front of his head shone, or glistened. (K, TA.) صَلَدَ is also used in the same sense, in a trad., in relation to milk flowing forth. (TA.) ― -b5- And one says, جَاآءَ بِمَرَقٍ يَصْلِدُ, and بِلَبَنٍ يَصْلِدُ, meaning He brought broth, and milk, containing little oily, or greasy, matter, and much water: for يَصْلِتُ. (T in art. صلت.) ― -b6- صَلَدَتْ أَنْيَابُهُ His canine teeth caused a grating sound to be heard. (K, * TA.) ― -b7- صَلَدَ بِيَدَيْهِ He clapped with his hands. (M.) ― -b8- صَلَدَتِ الدَّابَّةُ, aor. صَلِدَ , (K,) inf. n. صَلْدٌ, (TA,) The beast beat the ground with its fore feet in its running. صَلِيفٌ ذ The side (عُرْض [in one of my copies of the S عَرْض, and in the other copy عِرق,]) of the neck; the two being called صَلِيفَانِ; (S, O, K;) [i. e.] الصَّلِيفَانِ signifies the two sides of the neck (جَانِبَا العُنُقِ): or this signifies what are between the لِيت [or part beneath the earring ] and the قَصَرَة [or base of the neck, on the two sides ]: (M:) or the two heads of the vertebra that is next to the head, in the two sides of the neck. (AZ, O, * K, * TA.) In this last explanation, in the copies of the K, رأس is put for رأسا. (TA. [And in some copies of the K, شِقَّيْهِمَا is there erroneously put for شِقَّيْهَا, which, as is said in the TA, refers to the neck.]) أَخَذَ بِصَلِيفِهِ and ↓ بِصَلِيفَتِهِ mean, accord. to As, He took hold of the back of his neck: (O, TA:) and one says also, ↓ أَخَذَهُ بِصَلِيفَتِهِ meaning He took him, or it, altogether. (TA. [But I think it not improbable that ↓ بِصَلِيفَتِهِ in these two instances may be a mistranscription for بِصَلِيفَيْهِ.]) ― -b2- الصَّلِيفَانِ signifies also Two staves, or pieces of wood, which are placed across [ horizontally ] upon the [ camel's saddle called ] غَبِيط, by means of which the مَحَامِل [pl. of مَحْمِلٌ, q. v.,] are bound.
