ضِمْنٌ ذ (tropical:) The طَىّ, (S, MA, K,) i. e. the inside, (MA, TK,) [lit. the folding, ] of a writing, or letter. (S, MA, K, TA.) You say, أَنْفَذْتُهُ ضِمْنَ كِتَابِى i. e. فِى طَيِّهِ (tropical:) [ I sent it, or transmitted it, within the folding of my writing or letter; mean- ing infolded, or enclosed, in it; included in it; or in the inside of it ]. (S, TA.) And فِى ضِمْنِ كَلَامِهِ [and كِتَابِهِ] means (assumed tropical:) Among the contents, or implications, of his speech [and of his writing or letter ] (فى مَطَاوِيهِ); and the indications thereof. (Msb.) -A2- A thing that satisfies the stomach: thus, مَا أَغْنَى عَنِّى فُلَانٌ ضِمْنًا means Such a one did not stand me in stead, or supply my want, of anything, even as much as a thing that would satisfy the stomach. (IAar, TA.)

ضَمَنٌ ذ (S, K) and ↓ ضَمَانٌ and ↓ ضَمَانَةٌ (S, Msb, K) (tropical:) A malady of long continuance, or such as cripples; (S, Msb, K, TA;) an affliction in the body, (S, * K, TA,) by some trial, or fracture, or other ailment; (S, TA;) and ↓ ضُمْنَةٌ signifies the same; (K;) and [ simply ] a disease, or malady; (S, K;) as in the saying, كَانَتْ ضُمْنَةُ فُلَانٍ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ (tropical:) [ The disease of such a one was four months in duration]. (S, TA.) [See also 1, last two sentences.] ― -b2- ضَمَنٌ also signifies (assumed tropical:) A burden; syn. كَلٌّ: so in the saying, فُلَانٌ ضَمَنٌ عَلَى أَصْحَابِهِ [ Such a one is a burden upon his companions ]. (AZ, TA.) -A2- It is also an epithet: see the next pargaraph.

ضَمِنٌ ذ (applied to a man, S) (assumed tropical:) Affected with a malady of long continuance, or such as cripples; (S, Msb, K, TA;) afflicted in the body, (S, * K, TA,) by some trial, or fracture, or other ailment: (S, TA:) and ↓ ضَمَنٌ signifies [the same; or simply] affected with a disease, or malady; applied to a man [and to two and more and to a female; being originally an inf. n.]; having no dual nor pl. nor fem. form: (TA:) pl. of the former ضَمْنَى (S, * Msb, K, * TA) and ضَمِنُونَ, or the former of these is pl. of ↓ ضَمِينٌ [which signifies the same as ضَمِنٌ]. (TA.) اِكْتَتَبَ ضَمِنًا [in the CK ضَمَنًا] means (assumed tropical:) He wrote himself down [ as one affected with a malady of long continuance, &c., or] in the register of the ضَمْنَى, i. e. the زَمْنَى; (S, K, TA;) i. e. he asked that he might write himself down [as such], and took for himself a billet from the commander of the army in order to excuse himself from fighting against the unbelievers: (TA:) of such it is said that God will raise him in that state on the day of resurrection. (S, TA.) مَعْبُوطَةٌ غَيْرُ ضَمِنَةٍ, occurring in a trad., means Slaughtered not having any disease. (TA.) ― -b2- Also (tropical:) [ Loving: (See ضَمَانَةٌ:) or] loving excessively, or admiringly. (K, TA.)

ضُمْنَةٌ ذ : see ضَمَنٌ.

ضَمَانٌ ذ an inf. n.: [see 1, first sentence:] (IAar, S, Msb, K:) [used as a simple subst.,] Responsibility, answerableness, accountability, amenability, suretiship, or guaranteeship; syn. كَفَالَةٌ: (Mgh:) but it is more common [in signification] than كَفَالَةٌ; for it sometimes signifies what is not كَفَالَةٌ, namely, [ indemnification; or] restoration of the like, or of the value, of a thing that has perished. (Kull.) [ضَمَانُ مَالٍ, and غُرْمٍ, signify Responsibility, &c., for property, and for a debt, owed by another person. And ضَمَانُ نَفْسٍ, and حُضورٍ, signify Responsibility, &c., for the appearance, or presence, of another person, to answer a suit. ] ضُمَان دَرَك is a vulgar phrase; correctly ضَمَانُ الدَّرَكِ [expl. in art. درك]. ضَمِينٌ ذ : see ضامِنٌ: -A2- and see also ضَمِنٌ.

ضَمَانَةٌ ذ : see ضَمَنٌ. ― -b2- Also (tropical:) Love: (K, TA:) [or] excessive, or admiring, love. (TA.)

ضَامِنٌ ذ and ↓ ضَمِينٌ One who is responsible, answerable, accountable, amenable, surety, or guarantee: (S, Msb, K:) both are mentioned by IAar as syn., like سَامِنٌ and سَمِينٌ. (TA.) God is represented by the Prophet as saying, مَنْ خَرَجَ مُجَاهِدًا فِى سَبِيلِى وَا@بْتِغَاآءِ مَرْضَاتِى فَأَنَا عَلَيْهِ ضَامِنٌ وَهُوَ عَلَىَّ ضَامِنٌ, meaning [ Whoso goes forth as a warrior in my cause, and seeking, or seeking earnestly, to obtain my approval, ] I am responsible to him for what I have promised him, to recompense him living and dead; ضامن being made trans. by means of على because it implies the meaning of مُحَامٍ and رَقِيبٌ; and the last clause means nearly the same, but is rendered as meaning and he is one who has [ a claim to ] responsibility on my part, as though care and mindfulness [of him] were obligatory on me. (Mgh.) And it is said in a trad., الاـِمَامُ ضَامِنٌ وَالمُؤَذِّنُ مُؤْتَمَنٌ: (Mgh, JM, * TA:) [the latter clause has been expl. in art. أمن (voce أَمِينٌ):] the former clause means, The imám [or leader of prayer ] is as though he were responsible for the correctness of the prayer of those who follow him: (JM, TA: [and the like is said, with other, similar, explanations, in the Mgh:]) or it means, the imám is careful, or mindful, for the people [ who follow him ], of [ the correctness of ] their prayer. (TA.) ― -b2- ضَامِنٌ and ↓ مِضْمَانٌ applied to a she-camel, signify Having a fœtus in her belly: and the pls. are ضَوَامِنُ and مَضَامِينُ. (IAar, L and TA in art. لقح and in the present art.) ― -b3- ضَامِنَةٌ applied to rights, or dues, (حُقُوق,) is used by Lebeed as meaning مَضْمُونَةٌ; [see مَضْمُونٌ;] like as رَاحِلَةٌ is used as meaning مَرْحُولَةٌ. (TA.)

ضَامِنَةٌ ذ [fem. of ضَامِنٌ, q. v.]. ― -b2- الضَّامِنَةُ signifies What is included within the middle of any town or country or the like. (TA.) الضَّامِنَةُ مِنَ النَّخْلِ, (AO, S, K, * TA,) occurring in a letter of the Prophet, (AO, S, TA,) means What are included within the cities or towns or villages, of the palmtrees: (AO, S, K, * TA:) or what are surrounded, thereof, by the wall of the city: (K:) but Az says that they are so called because their owners are responsible for their culture and keeping: (TA:) opposed to الضَّاحِيَةُ من البَّعْلِ, which means what are in the open country, of the palm-trees that imbibe with their roots, without being watered. (AO, S, TA. *)

مُضَمَّنٌ ذ Water included in a mug or other vessel: and milk included in the udder. (TA.) ― -b2- Also (assumed tropical:) Poetry made to comprise a verse [ from another poem ]. (S, K. [See 2, last sentence but one.]) And (assumed tropical:) A verse [ made to be ] not complete otherwise than with what follows it. (S, K. [See 2, last sentence.]) ― -b3- And (assumed tropical:) A sound [ made to comprehend with it somewhat of another: ] upon which one cannot pause without conjoining it with another: (K:) in the T it is said to be [ such as is exemplified in ] a man's saying قِفْ فُلَ [or فُلُ, for قِفْ فُلَانُ Pause thou, such a one ], with making the ل to have a smack of the vowel-sound (بِاـِشْمَامِ اللَّامِ اـِلَى الحَرَكَةِ). (TA.)

مِضْمَانٌ ذ : see ضَامِنٌ, last sentence but one.

مَضْمُونٌ ذ pass. part. n. of 1 in the first of the senses assigned to the latter above: you say شَىْءٌ مَضْمُونٌ [meaning A thing, such as property, or the payment of a debt, &c., ensured by an acknowledgment of responsibility for it ]. (TA.) ― -b2- مَضْمُونُ كِتَابٍ means مَا فِى ضِمْنِهِ and طَيِّهِ [i. e. The contents of a writing or letter; or what is infolded, or included, in a writing or letter; what is implied therein; and what is indicated therein ]: pl. مَضَامِينُ. (TA.) ― -b3- And المَضَامِينُ, (A 'Obeyd, S, Msb, K,) of which the sing. is مَضْمُونٌ, (A 'Obeyd, Msb, K,) and one may also say مَضْمُونَةٌ, as meaning نَسَمَةٌ, (Msb,) signifies What are [ comprised ] in the loins of the stallions; (A 'Obeyd, S, Msb, K;) i. e. the progeny [ thereof, in the elemental state ]: (Msb:) or, accord. to Aboo-Sa'eed, [though the reverse is generally held to be the case,] المَلَاقِيحُ signifies what are in the backs of the he-camels, and المَضَامِينُ what are in the bellies of the females. (L in art. لقح.) The selling of the مضامين and the ملاقيح is forbidden. (S.) [مَضَامِينُ is also pl. of مِضْمَانٌ, q. v.] ― -b4- مَضْمُونُ اليَدِ i. q. مَخْبُونُهَا, (K,) meaning مَعْلُولُهَا [i. e. Diseased in the arm, or hand ]; (TK;) applied to a man. (TA. [See 1, last sentence, which indicates a more particular meaning.])

1 ضَنَّ بِهِ ذ , (Mgh, Msb,) first pers. ضَنِنْتُ بِهِ, (S, Msb, *) [and one may say عَلَيْهِ, and عَنْهُ, in the place of بِهِ, (see ضَنِينٌ,)] and ضَنِنُوا occurs, in a verse of Kaanab Ibn-Umm-Sáhib, used by poetic license for ضَنُّوا, (S,) aor. ضَنَ3َ ; (S, Mgh, Msb, K;) and ضَنَّ, (Msb,) first pers. ضَنَنْتُ, (S, Msb, *) aor. ضَنِ3َ , (S, Msb, K,) accord to Fr, (S,) or, accord. to Th, Fr said, I have heard ضَنَنْتُ, though I have not heard أَضِنُّ, but this aor. is mentioned by Yaakoob; (TA;) inf. n. ضِنٌّ (S, Mgh, Msb, K [in the CK ضِنَانًا is erroneously put for ضِنًّا]) and ضَنٌّ (TA) and ضَنَانَةٌ, (S, Mgh, Msb, K, TA,) with fet-h, (Msb, TA,) and ضِنَّةٌ, (Msb,) or this last is a simple subst.; (Mgh;) He was, or became, niggardly, tenacious, stingy, or avaricious, (S, Mgh, Msb, K,) of it. (S, Mgh, Msb. [See also 8.]) You say, ضَنَّ عَلَيْهِ بِكَذَا He was, or became, niggardly, &c., to him, of such a thing. (Mgh.) And ↓ اـِنَّمَا يُضَنُّ بِالضَّنِينِ [ Only he who clings is to be clung to ]: a prov., meaning that you should cling to fraternizing [only] with him who clings to fraternizing with you. (Meyd, and Har p. 42.) And ضَنِنْتُ بِالمَنْزِلِ, inf. n. ضِنٌّ and ضَنَانَةٌ, [ I kept tenaciously to, or] I did not quit, or relinquish, the place of alighting, or abode. (TA.)

8 اِضْطَنَّ ذ (originally اِضْتَنَّ, TA) He (a man, TA) was, or became, niggardly, tenacious, stingy, or avaricious. (K.) [See also 1.]

ضِنٌّ ذ an inf. n. of 1 [q. v.]. (S, &c.) ― -b2- Also A thing highly esteemed, of which one is tenacious. (TA.) ― -b3- [Hence] one says, هُوَ ضِنِّى He is the person of whose affection I am tenacious; as also ↓ ضِنَّتِى and ↓ ضَنِينِى: (TA:) or he is my particular, or special, friend, (K, TA,) مِنْ بَيْنِ اـِخْوَانِى [ chosen from among my brethren ]; (S, TA;) as though I appropriated him specially to myself, and were tenacious of him because of the place that he held in my estimation: as is said in the S, it is like special appropriation [of the person to oneself]. (TA.) [And as ضِنٌّ is originally an inf. n., it is used as an epithet applied to a pl. number:] it is said in a trad., اـِنَّ لِلّٰهِ ضِنًّا مِنْ خَلْقِهِ يُحْيِيهِمْ فِى عَافِيَةٍ وَيُمِيتُهُمْ فِى عَافِيَةٍ, (S, TA,) or مِنْ خلقه ↓ ضَنَائِنَ, (K, * TA,) accord. to different relations thereof, (TA,) i. e. [ Verily God has ] specially-distinguished individuals [ of his creatures, whom He causes to live in a state of freedom from disease, or from disease and trial, and whom He causes to die in a state of freedom &c.]: (K, TA:) the sing. of ضَنَائِن is ↓ ضَنِينَةٌ, of the measure فَعِيلَةٌ in the sense of the measure مَفْعُرلَةٌ, and meaning a thing that one specially appropriates to himself, and of which he is tenacious because of the place that it holds in his estimation. (TA.)

ضِنَّةٌ ذ an inf. n. of ضَنَّ: (Msb:) or a subst. therefrom signifying Niggardliness, tenaciousness, stinginess, or avarice: (Mgh:) or vehement niggardliness &c.; as also ↓ مَضَنَّةٌ. (TA.) ― -b2- See also ضِنٌّ.

ضَنَنٌ ذ Courageous, brave, or strong-hearted. (K.)

ضَنِينٌ ذ Niggardly, tenacious, stingy, or avaricious, (S, Mgh, Msb, K,) بِشَىْءٍ [ of a thing ], (S,) or بِشَىْءٍ نَفِيسٍ [ of a thing held in high estimation ]. (TA.) وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى ا@لْغَيْبِ بِضَنِينٍ, in the Kur [lxxxi. 24], as some read it, others reading بِظَنِينٍ [q. v.], is expl. by Zj as meaning, And he is not a tenacious concealer of that which has been revealed to him: and if عَن or بِ were substituted for عَلَى, it would be correct. (TA.) ― -b2- See also 1. ― -b3- And see ضِنٌّ.

ضَنَانَةٌ ذ an inf. of 1 [q. v.]. (S &c.) ― -b2- [Hence,] one says, هَجَمْتُ عَلَى القَوْمِ بِضَنَانَتِهِمْ, meaning (assumed tropical:) [ I came suddenly upon the people, or party, in their close state, i. e.,] when they had not dispersed themselves. (TA.) And أَخَذْتُ الأَمْرَ بِضَنَانَتِهِ (assumed tropical:) [ I took to the affair ] in its fresh state. (TA.)

ضَنِينَةٌ ذ ; and its pl. ضَنَائِنُ: see ضِنٌّ.

مَضَنَّةٌ ذ : see ضِنَّةٌ. ― -b2- هٰذَا عِلْقُ مَضَنَّةٍ and مَضِنَّةٍ [the former mentioned after the latter in the S] This is a thing held in high estimation, of which one is tenacious, (S, K, TA,) and for which people vie in desire. (TA.) [See also عِرْقٌ, last sentence.]

المَضْنُونُ ذ a name of [ The compound of perfumes commonly called ] الغَالِيَةُ; (Ez-Zejjájee, S, K, TA;) as also ↓ المَضْنُونَةُ; (Ez-Zejjájee, S, * TA;) which latter is said by As to be a sort of perfume; and so is the former in the A: in the M the former is said to be the oil of ben: it is thus called because one is tenacious of it. (TA.) ― -b2- Also, (IKh, TA,) or ↓ المَضْنُونَةُ, (K, TA,) a name of The well Zemzem. (K, TA.)

المَضْنُونَةُ ذ : see the next preceding paragraph, in two places.

1 ضَنَاآَتْ ذ , aor. ضَنَاَ , (S, M, O, Msb, K,) inf. n. ضَنْءٌ and ضُنُوْءٌ; (S, M, O, K;) and accord. to the K, ضَنِئَتْ, but MF says that this latter is unknown, i. e., it is not mentioned in the other lexicons in the sense here assigned to it in the K; (TA;) and ↓ اضنأت; (S, M, O, K;) She (a woman) had many children: (S, M, O, Msb, K:) [and so ضَنَتْ and ضَنِيَتْ, as mentioned in art. ضنو:] and in like manner one says of cattle; (M;) [i. e.] one says, ضَنَأَ المَالُ (S, O, K) and ضَنِئَ, (O, K,) and صَنَأَتِ المَاشِيَةُ and ضَنِئَت, (TA,) [and ↓ اضنأ and اضنأت as is implied in the M,] The cattle multiplied, or became numerous or many. (S, O, K, TA.) And ضَنَأَتْ is said to signify She brought forth. (TA.) ― -b2- And صَنَأَ فِى الأَرْضِ, (M, K,) inf. n. ضَنْءٌ and ضُنُوْءٌ [as above], (M, TA,) He hid, or concealed, himself in the land, or country: (M:) or he went away in the land, or into the country, and hid, or concealed, himself [ therein ]: (K:) like ضَبَأَ. (TA.)

4 أَضْنَاَ see above, in two places. ― -b2- أَضْنَؤُوا signifies Their cattle multiplied, or became numerous or many. (S, O, K.)

8 اضْطَنَأَ لَهُ ذ and مِنْهُ He was abashed at, or shy of, and he shrank at, or from, him, or it. (M, K. [See also اضطبأ.]) Et-Tirimmáh uses اِضْطَنَا [or اِضْطَنَى in this sense,] and يَضْطَنِى: meaning اضطنأ [and يضطنئ]: or as being derived from الضَّنَى meaning “ disease. ” (M.)

ضَنْءٌ ذ Children, or offspring; as also ↓ ضِنْءٌ; (S, M, O, K; [and so ضَنْوٌ and ضِنْوٌ, as mentioned in art. ضنو;]) the former accord. to El-Umawee, and both accord. to AA: (S, O:) the former signifies the offspring of anything: (TA:) and also, (K, TA, [in a copy of the M ↓ the latter, but this is app. a mistranscription,]) multitude of offspring: it is like نَفَرٌ (M, K) and رَهْطٌ, (M,) having no. n. un.: the pl. is ضُنُوْءٌ. (M, K.)

ضِنْءٌ ذ Origin, root, race, or stock; syn. أَصْلٌ: (El-Umawee, S, M, O, K:) and the place in which a thing originates; syn. مَعْدِنٌ. (ElUmawee, S, O, K.) One says, فُلَانٌ فِى ضِنْءِ صِدْقٍ [ Such a one is of an excellent origin or race or stock ], (S, O, L,) and فِى ضِنْءِ سَوْءٍ [ of a bad origin &c.]. (L.) ― -b2- See also ضَنْءٌ, in two places.

ضُنْأَةٌ ذ (M, O, K) and ↓ ضُنَاآءَةٌ (O, K) Necessity, need, or want; or difficulty, or distress; (ضَارُورَةٌ, M, O, or ضَرُورَةٌ, K; [both meaning the same;]) that befalls a man: (O:) so in the saying قَعَدَ مَقْعَدَ ضُنْأَة (M, K) and ↓ ضُنَاآءَةٍ (K) [lit. He sat in the sitting-place of necessity, &c.; meaning he was, or became, in an abject condition ]: the phrase denotes disdain, or scorn; and is thought by AM to be from اِضْطَنَأَ meaning “ he was abashed, &c. ” (TA.)

ضُنَاآءَةٌ ذ : see the next preceding paragraph, in two places.

ضَانِئٌ ذ (S, O, K) and ضَانِئَةٌ (Ks, S, O, Msb, K) A woman having many children: (S, O, Msb, K:) and in like manner, the latter, cattle (مَاشِيَةٌ) having numerous offspring. (TA.)

1 ضَنُكَ ذ , aor. ضَنُكَ , inf. n. ضَنْكٌ and ضَنَاكَةٌ and ضُنُوكَةٌ, (O, K,) the first and third of these, (O,) or the first and second, (TA,) accord. to IDrd, used in relation to a place, and the second and third in relation to life, or sustenance, or means of subsistence, (O, TA,) It was, or became, narrow, or strait. (O, K, TA.) ― -b2- And ضَنُكَ said of a man, inf. n. ضَنَاكَةٌ, He was, or became, weak in his judgment, and in his body, and in his soul, and in his intellect. (K.) ― -b3- And ضَنُكَ السَّحَابُ The clouds became thick, collected together, and dense. (O, TA.) -A2- ضُنِكَ, like عُنِىَ, He was, or became, affected with a coryza, or defluxion from the head and nose. (K.)

4 اضنكهُ ذ He (God) caused him to be affected with a coryza, or defluxion from the head and nose. (TA.)

ضَنْكٌ ذ an inf. n. of ضَنُكَ: (O, K:) its primary signification is Narrowness, or straitness, and hardship. (Aboo-Is-hák, TA.) ― -b2- And Narrow, or strait; syn. ضَيِّقٌ; (S, M, O, K; [in the CK, and in a copy of the S, ضِيق, which is also a correct explanation, as shown above; but not what is here meant, as appears from what follows;]) applied to anything, (M, K,) masc. and fem., (M, K, and Bd in xx. 123,) being an inf. n. used as an epithet. (Bd ibid.) [Like the Pers. تَنْG.] One says مَكَانٌ ضَنْكٌ A narrow, or strait, place. (IDrd, O, TA.) And عَيْشٌ ضَنْكٌ A strait life; or strait sustenance, or means of subsistence; (IDrd, O, TA;) as also ↓ عَيْشٌ ضَنِيكٌ: (AA, O, K, TA:) and thus مَعِيشَةً ضَنْكًا in the Kur xx. 123; where some read ↓ ضَنْكَى, like سَكْرَى: (Bd:) or this means such as is unlawful; (O, TA;) every life that is unlawful being termed ضَنْكٌ, accord. to Lth, even though it be ample: (O, TA: *) Aboo-Is-hák thinks it to mean [ subsistence ] in the fire of Hell: but says that most explain this phrase in the Kur as meaning the punishment of the grave: (TA:) thus it means accord. to Ibn-Mes'ood: (O:) or, accord. to Katádeh, Hell: (O, TA:) or, accord. to Ed-Dahhák, forbidden gain: (TA:) or, as some say, الضَّرِيعُ [q. v.], and الزَّكُّومُ [q. v.]. (Bd.)

ضُنْكَةٌ ذ : see ضُنَاكٌ.

ضَنْكَى ذ : see ضَنْكٌ.

ضَنَاكٌ ذ : see ضِنَاكٌ.

ضُنَاكٌ ذ A coryza, or defluxion from the head and nose; syn. زُكَامٌ; (S, O, K;) as also ↓ ضُنْكَةٌ. (K.)

ضِنَاكٌ ذ ; (O, K, &c.;) accord. to El-Fárábee, (O, TA,) and J [in the S], (TA,) ↓ ضَنَاكٌ; but accord. to others, with kesr, and this is the right; (O, TA;) Compact in flesh; applied to a woman: (El-Fárábee, S, O:) or plump, and compact in flesh; so applied: (Lth, TA:) or heavy in the hinder part, (K, TA,) and large in body; (TA;) so applied: (K, * TA:) or having much flesh; applied to a male and to a female, without ة: (IAth, TA:) and firm in make, and strong; applied to a male and to a female; (K, TA;) of human beings, and of camels, and in like manner of palm-trees and of trees in general: (TA:) and, applied to a she-camel, thick in the hinder part: (TA:) and [ large; applied to trees (شَجَرٌ): or] large trees. ضَنِيكٌ ذ : see ضَنْكٌ. ― -b2- Also Weak in his body, and in his intellect, (AZ, O, K,) and in his judgment, and in his soul. (K,) ― -b3- And A servant who works for his bread. (AZ, O, K.) ― -b4- And i. q. مَقْطُوعٌ [ Cut off; &c.]. (AA, O, K.)

ضُنْأَكٌ ذ Hard, and firm and compact in flesh; (Lh, O, K;) applied to a man; (Lh, O;) as also ضَنْأَكٌ: (K:) fem. ضُنْأَكَةٌ; (Lh, O, K;) applied to a woman. (Lh, O.) And, applied to a she-camel, Great, (K, TA,) and compact in make: (TA:) as also with ة. (K.)

مُضْنَكٌ ذ , (TA,) or ↓ مُتَضَنِّكٌ, (O,) Affected with a constant, or chronic, pervading disease; or emaciated by disease so as to be at the point of death. (O, TA.)

مَضْنُوكٌ ذ Affected with the malady termed ضُنَاك [q. v.]. (S, O,)

1 ضَنَتِ المَرْأَةُ ذ , inf. n. ضَنَاآءٌ (S, M, K) and ضَنًا, (M, K,) The woman had many children; (S, M, K;) as also ضَنِيَت: (K:) and so with ء. (S.) ― -b2- And ضَنَا نَصِيبُهُ His share, or portion, became redundant; it increased, or augmented. (Sgh, K.)

ضَنْوٌ ذ and ضِنْوٌ Children, or offspring; (AA, S, K;) like ضَنْءٌ and ضِنْءٌ; as also ↓ ضُنًا, accord. to IAar. (TA.)

1 ضَنِىَ ذ , (S, M, Msb, K,) aor. ضَنَىَ , (Msb, K,) inf. n. ضَنًى; (S, M, Mgh, Msb, K;) and ↓ اضطنى signifies the same; He was, or became, slender, and small in body: and hence, (Ham p. 112,) he was, or became, diseased, disordered, or sick; (S, and Ham ibid.;) because disease occasions leanness, or emaciation: (Ham:) or he was, or became, lean, or emaciated: (so accord. to the explanation of the inf. n. in the Mgh:) or he was, or became, affected with a disease, disorder, or sickness, (M, Msb, K,) of long continuance, and settled, (M,) or constant, so that he was at the point of death, (Msb,) or such as infected, or pervaded, him, and so that, whenever he thought himself to be recovering, he relapsed. 3 مُضَانَاةٌ ذ i. q. مُعَانَاةٌ, (S, K, KL,) both signifying The suffering, or enduring, [or contending with, ], the difficulty, or trouble, or inconvenience, of a thing; as also مُقَاسَاةٌ. (KL.)

4 اضناهُ ذ , said of a disease, disorder, or sickness, (S, M, Mgh, Msb, K,) It rendered him such as is termed ضَنًى or ضَنٍ: (M, Msb, K:) rendered him lean, or emaciated: (Mgh:) or oppressed him; burdened him heavily; overburdened him; or overcame him, and rendered him heavy. (S, TA.) -A2- And أَضْنَى He kept to the bed by reason of what is termed ضَنًى [i. e. leanness, or emaciation; or disease, disorder, or sickness, or such as was of long continuance, &c.: see 1]. (TA.)
