الوَزْنُ ذ A certain star in the left fore leg of Centaurus. (Kzw.) See حَضَارِ.

زِنِىٌّ ذ , rel. n. of زِنَةٌ. (S, art. وعد, q. v., voce عِدَةٌ.)

وَازِنٌ ذ : see رَاجِحٌ: heavy: (Msb:) or of full weight: (KL:) pl. وُزَّنٌ: see زَالٌّ. You say, دِرْهَمٌ وَازِنٌ (S) A full, or complete, dirhem: (so in a copy of the S:) [ a dirhem of full weight: a heavy dirhem. (PS.)

وَزَّانٌ ذ A weigher. (TA, in art. قسط.)

مِيزَانٌ ذ A weighing-instrument; (TA:) a balance; a pair of scales. ― -b2- The weight of a thing. (K, &c.) See مِثْقَالٌ.

3 وَازَاهُ ذ , inf. n. مُوَازَاةٌ: see اآزَاهُ. See also 3 in art. قرأ.

السَّجْعُ المُتَوَازِى ذ A variety of rhyming prose: see سَجْعٌ.

وَسُوطٌ ذ A middle-sized tent of goats hair: see مِظَلَّةٌ.

1 وَسِعَ الاـِنَاآءُ المَتَاعَ ذ [ The vessel was sufficient in its capacity or dimensions, or sufficiently capacious, or large, for the goods ]; and المَكَانُ القَوْمَ [ the place for the company of men ]. (Msb.) لَا يَسَعُكَ ان تَفْعَلَ كَذَا It is not in thy power, or proper for thee, (MA,) or allowable for thee, (Mgh, Msb,) to do such a thing. (MA, Mgh, Msb.) ― -b2- وَسَعَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ, aor. يَوْسَعُ; and ↓ أَوْسَعَهُ, and ↓ وَسَّعَهُ; He (God) made his means of subsistence ample and abundant. (Msb.)

2 وَسَّعَ ذ He made wide, broad, spacious, roomy, or ample. ― -b2- وَسَّعَ لَهُ فِى المَجْلِسِ He made room, or ample space, for him in the sitting-place. (S, art. فسح.) ― -b3- [And so] فِى المَجْلِسِ ↓ تَوَاسَّعُوا They made room, or ample space, [ one for another, ] in the sitting-place. (S, art. فسح.) ― -b4- وَسَّعَ عَلَيْهِ, for وَسَّعَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ, He (God) amplified, enlarged, or made ample or plentiful, his means of subsistence; contr. of ضَيَّقَ. ― -b5- See 1, and 4.

4 أَوْسَعَهُ الشَّىْءَ ذ [ He made, or rendered, the thing ample, or free from straitness, to him; ] he made the thing sufficient for him; syn. جَعَلَهُ يَسَعُهُ: (TA:) [ he gave him sufficiently of the thing; or largely thereof. ] ― -b2- اَللّٰهُمَّ أَوْسِعْنَا رَحْمَتَكَ O God, make thy mercy sufficient for us; syn. اِجْعَلْهَا تَسَعُنَا. (TA.) ― -b3- أَوْسَعَهُ أَمْرَهُ [ He made, or rendered, his state, or case, or affair, ample, or free from straitness, to him ]. (S, art. فرش.) See فَرَشَهُ. ― -b4- أَوْسَعُوا لِلرَّجُلِ They made room, or ample space, for the man, in a place of standing or of sitting. (Msb, voce فَرَجَ.) ― -b5- أَوْسَعَ عَلَيْهِ, (S, K.) and ↓ وَسَّعَ, (K,) He (God) enriched him; or rendered him free from want. (S, K.) ― -b6- See 1.

5 تَوَسَّعَ ذ [ He became, or made himself, ample, or abundant, in his circumstances; or in his means of subsistence; for توسّع فِى عَيْشِهِ;] i. q. تَرَفَّغَ. (S, in art. رفغ.) ― -b2- تَوَسَّعَ He took a wide, an ample, or a large, range, فِى أَمْرٍ, in an affair. ― -b3- تَوَسَّعَ فِى السَّخَاآءِ (assumed tropical:) [ He took a wide, or an ample range, or was profuse, in bounty, or munificence ]. (S, K, in art. خرق.) ― -b4- It expanded itself, spread out, dilated, widened. ― -b5- He expatiated. One says, توسّع فِى الدَّارِ, and لَهُ سَاحَةٌ يتوسّع فِيهَا. (TA, voce تركّح.) ― -b6- He strode, in walking. ― -b7- تَوَسَّعُوا فِيهِ حَتَّى أَطْلَقُوهُ عَلَى كَذَا They extended its (a word's) signification, or amplified in respect of it, or rather, took an extended range in using it, so that they applied it to such a thing. (The lexicons, &c., passim.) ― -b8- تَوَسَّعَ: see تَبَقَّرَ.

8 اِتَّسَعَ ذ It (a man's state, or condition, &c.) became free from straitness, or unstraitened. ― -b2- اِتَّسَعَ عَيْشُهُ [ His means, or circumstances, of life became ample, or plentiful ]. (Msb, art. نعم.) ― -b3- اِتَّسَعَ It widened, became wide, dilated, or expanded. ― -b4- اِتَّسَعَ بَطْنُهُ His belly became wide, or distended. ― -b5- اِتَّسَعَ لِأَمْرٍ He was capable of doing a thing. An instance occurs in the TA, voce أَوْهَبَ. ― -b6- اِتِّسَاعُ البِئْرِ i. q. جِرَابُهَا [ The interior of the well ]. (K, art. جرب.) See also 5, in art. عقد. ― -b7- اِتَّسَعَ الخَرْقُ عَلَى الرَّاقِعِ The hole was wide to the pitcher: see خَرْقٌ. ― -b8- اِتِّسَاعٌ Extension of the signification of a word or phrase: an amplification. (The lexicons, &c., passim.)

سَعَةٌ ذ Width; breadth; extent, or space, from side to side. See سَدِيلٌ. ― -b2- سَعَةٌ العَيْشِ Ampleness of the means, or circumstances, of life; an unstraitened, or a plentiful, state of life. ― -b3- سَعَةٌ [ Ample scope for action, &c.: and a state in which is ample scope for action, &c.: see نَفَسٌ, and مِعْرَاضٌ:] richness, or wealthiness, or competence: and capacity, or power, or ability: (S, K:) and plentifulness and [consequently] easiness of life. (TA.) ― -b4- سَعَةُ الصَّدْرِ i. q. سَعَةُ الخُلُقِ. (Har, p. 194.) ― -b5- لَكَ عَنْهُ سَعَةٌ: see رُدْحَةٌ. ― -b6- يَجُوزُ فِى السَّعَةِ It is allowable absolutely, in other cases than those of poetical necessity. (IbrD.)

وَسَاعٌ ذ A horse wide in step: (S, K:) or i. q. جَوَادٌ. (K.)

وَسِيعٌ ذ , pl. وِسَاعٌ: see أَرِيضء in art. أرض.

عَيْشٌ وَاسِعٌ ذ A life ample in its means or circumstances; unstraitened, or plentiful. ― -b2- وَاسِعٌ Having power, or ability: (Bd, iv. 129:) or rather, having ample power or ability; powerful. See Ham, p. 609. ― -b3- نَفْسٌ وَاسِعٌ: see رَابِطٌ. ― -b4- خُلُقٌ وَاسِعٌ (assumed tropical:) A large, or liberal, disposition: see بَارِجٌ. ― -b5- وَاسِعُ الخُلُقِ (tropical:) Large, or liberal, in disposition. ― -b6- وَاسِعُ الصَّدْرِ: see مَجَمٌّ. ― -b7- وَاسِعُ الجَرْىِ (S voce سَهْبٌ, applied to a horse,) Widestepping [ in running ]. (So expl. in the PS.)

أَوْسَعُ ذ Wider, or widest: see 3 in art. خلط.

مُوَسَّعٌ عَلَيْهِ ذ Amply, or abundantly, provided with the means of subsistence.

مُتَّسَعٌ ذ Width; extent; ampleness of space, and of quantity: properly a place of width, or spaciousness. See نُفْسَةٌ and مَبْسَطٌ.

وَسْقٌ ذ A camel's load: see وِقْرٌ.

وَسِيقَةٌ ذ A mob of driven cattle: see سَيِّقَهٌ and مِعْتَاقٌ.

5 تَوَسَّلَ بِالدَّلْوِ اـِلَى المَاآءِ ذ [ He sought to get at, or obtain, the water by means of the bucket ]. (M in art. دلو.) ― -b2- تَوَسَّلَ اـِلَيْهِ بِكَذَا He sought to bring himself near to him, or to approach to him, to gain access to him, or to advance himself in his favour, by such a thing: (Msb, &c.:) so too ↓ وَسَّلَ; (S, K;) and ↓ وَسَلَ, aor. يَسِلُ. (Msb.)

وَسِيلَةٌ ذ A means of access to a thing; (IAth;) a means of becoming near to a thing: (IAth, Msb:) these are the primary significations: (IAth:) a means of becoming near to, or intimate with, or of ingratiating oneself with, another: (S:) honourable rank or station with a king: degree: affinity: (K:) a tie, or connexion: (TA:) it may be rendered a means of access, nearness, intimacy, ingratiating oneself, attachment, or connexion: and also, of attainment, or accomplishment.

1 وَسَمَ الثَّوْبَ ذ [ He marked, or put a mark on, the garment, &c.]; said of a trader, or dealer. (JK in art. رقم.) ― -b2- وَسَمَهُ بِالهِجَاآءِ [ He branded him, or stigmatized him, with satire ]. (TA.) See a hemistich cited voce شَكِىٌّ. ― -b3- وَسَمَهُ He marked it [in any manner]. (Msb.) ― -b4- وَسَمَهُ بِالقَوْلِ (tropical:) He stigmatized him, or set a mark upon him whereby he should be known, by something said. (TA in art. علظ.) ― -b5- وَسَمْتُ الكِتَابَ [ I put a superscription, or title, to the book, or writing. ] (TA in art. عنو.) ― -b6- وَسُمَ, inf. n. وَسَامَةٌ (S, Msb, K) and وَسَامٌ, (S, K,) He (a man, S) was beautiful in face: (S, Msb:) or bore the impress, or stamp, of beauty. (K.)

5 تَوَسَّمْتُ فِيهِ الخَبْرَ ذ i. q. تَفَرَّسْتُهُ; (S;) [ I discovered, or perceived, in him good, or goodness, by right opinion formed from its outward signs; ] originally, I knew its real existence in him by its outward sign. (MF.) See also Har, pp. 30, 46, 76. ― -b2- تَوَسَّمَ He examined deliberately in order to know the real state or character of a thing by the external sign thereof. (Bd, xv. 75.) ― -b3- He perceived a thing by forming a correct opinion from its outward signs. (TK.)

سِمَةٌ ذ A brand, or mark or figure made with a hot iron, upon an animal. (K.) And i. q. عَلَامَةٌ [ A mark, sign, badge, token, symptom, &c.]. (Msb.) And The عُلْوَان [or title ] of a book or writing. (TA in art. علو.) See also سِيمَةٌ and سِيمَى in art. سوم.

وَسِْمَةٌ ذ [now applied to Woad ]: i. q. عِظْلِمٌ, with which one tinges or dyes [ the hands, &c. ]: (S:) a certain plant, with the leaves of which one tinges or dyes [ the hands, &c. ]; and said to be the عِظْلِم: (Msb:) the leaves of the نِيل [or indigo-plant ]: or a plant [ of another species (TA)] with the leaves of which one tinges or dyes [ the hands, &c. ] (K.)

الوَسْمِىُّ ذ : on the rain thus called, see نَوْءٌ.

مَوْسِمٌ ذ [ A periodical festival: a fair: ] i. q. عِيدٌ. (Msb, art. عود.) ― -b2- مَوْسِمُ الحَاجِّ The fair, and place of meeting, of the pilgrims. (Mgh.)

مِيسَمٌ ذ A brand, or mark made with a hot iron. (TA, voce خِدَادٌ.) ― -b2- [Originally] A branding, or cauterizing, instrument [or iron ]; (S, K;) a marking instrument. (Msb.) ― -b3- An impress, or a character, of beauty. (S, K.) See an ex. in a verse cited voce أَثِمَ.

وَشِيعَةٌ ذ A ball of spun thread. (AA, TA in art. سحل.)

8 اِتَّشَقَ ذ : see تَجَبْجَبَ.

وَشِيقَةٌ ذ : see جُبْجُبَةٌ.

3 يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَكُونَ ذ It will soon be: (S, Msb, K, TA:) or it is near to being. (Msb, TA.)

وَشْكَانٌ ذ an anomalous inf. n., or perhaps a simple subst.: see 1 in art. شنأ.

وَشِيكًا ذ Quickly, or speedily. (IB, TA.) See an ex. in a verse cited voce تَارَةٌ.

وَشَلٌ ذ : applied to water: see an ex. voce سَجَعَ; and another in a verse cited voce دَقَلٌ; and another voce رَاشِحٌ.

وَشُولٌ ذ A she-camel whose milk lasts throughout the year. (IAar., in TA, art. شكر.)

4 أَوْشَمَ فِيهِ ذ , said of hoariness, It became abundant, or spread: see 5 in art. سنم.

8 اِتَّشَمَتْ بِالنَّؤُورِ ذ [ She tattooed herself with smoke-black ]. (T, art. نور.)

وَشْمٌ ذ Tattoo: see أَسَفَّ and قَرَّحَ.

وَاشِمَةٌ ذ A female tattooer. See رَجَعَ, latter part of the paragraph.
