وَدَعَةٌ ذ A cowry; Cypræa: see an ex. cited voce سَمَّ.

وَدِيعَةٌ ذ A thing committed to the trust and care of a person; a trust; a deposit. (Mgh, Msb.) See 10.

وَدَاعٌ ذ [ Gravity, steadiness: ] i. q. سَكِينَةٌ, [like ↓ مَوْدُوعٌ,] as also وَقَارٌ. (S, L, in art. سكن.) ― -b2- And Valediction. (S, Msb.)

مِيدَعٌ ذ and مِيدَعَةٌ A garment, or piece of cloth, used as a repository for clothes. (TA.)

مَوْدُوعٌ ذ : see وَدَاعٌ, and see a verse cited voce مَصْدَق.

مُسْتَوْدَعٌ ذ A depository: see a verse cited voce ظِلٌّ.

وَدْقٌ ذ Rain, (S, K, TA,) whether violent or gentle: (TA:) or violent rain. (MF in art. قهب.)

وَدِيقٌ ذ : see 10 in art. قرأ.

مُتَوَدِّقٌ ذ : occurring in the TA, art. قهب; from الوَدْقُ, meaning Violent rain. (MF.)

وَدَكٌ ذ Grease, or gravy: i. e. the oily matter that is produced from flesh-meat; (TA;) or the dripping that exudes from flesh-meat and from fat. (Mgh, Msb.)

مَوْدُونٌ ذ : see مَطْلُولٌ.

1 وَدَى القَتِيلَ ذ He gave the bloodwit to the heir, or next of kin, of the slain person. (Msb.)

3 وَادَاهُ ذ inf. n. مُوَادَاةٌ, He took [ from him ] the دِيَة. (TA.) See 3 in art. عدو.

4 أَوْدَى بِهِ ذ It destroyed him; (T;) it removed him, or took him away: (M, K:) said of death [&c.]. (T, M, K.) See an ex. in art. بلو, conj. 8, and another voce أَزْلَمُ. ― -b2- أَوْدَى: see a verse cited voce قَلَبَةٌ. ― -b3- أَوْدَى العَيْرُ اـِلّا ضَرِطًا: see ضَرَطَ.

دِيَةٌ ذ Bloodwit; a fine for bloodshed, i. e., homicide; consisting of a hundred camels. ― -b2- دِيَاتُ جِرَاحَاتٍ [ Fines for wounds ]. (S, M, TA, &c., in art. شنق.)

وَدِىٌّ ذ Small فَسِيل, q. v.; (S, Msb, K;) shoots, or offsets, cut off from palm-trees and planted: (Mgh:) young palm-trees. (TA.)

وَادٍ ذ [ A valley; a water-course, or torrent-bed: and sometimes a river; ] a space intervening, (M, Msb, K,) i. e. any such space, (M, Msb,) between mountains or hills; (M, Msb, K;) through which a torrent runs forth [ occasionally or constantly ]: (Msb:) for which reason it is thus called. (M, Mgh, TA.) ― -b2- حَلَّ بِوَادِيهِ i. q. بَاعَِ عَلَى بَيْعِهِ in one of the senses explained in art. بيع; i. e., (tropical:) He superseded him, &c.

تَوْدِيَةٌ ذ ; pl. تَوَادٍ, in the accus. case, by poetic licence, تَوَادِيًا: see a verse cited voce خُفٌّ.

4 أَوْذَمَ حَجًّا ذ : see an ex. voce دَسِمٌ.

وذم ذ [app. وَذَمٌ] The villosity of a tripe. (TA, art. ترب.)

1 وَرَعٌ ذ Piety: or pious fear: syn. تَقْوَى: (K:) and abstinence from unlawful things. (TA.) ― -b2- هُوَ وَرَعٌ ضَرَعٌ: see ضَرَعٌ.

وَرِقٌ ذ Silver, whether coined or not: (AO, TA:) or coined dirhems; (S, K;) coined silver. (Mgh.) See عَيْنٌ.

أَوْرَاق ذ , pl. of وَرَقٌ, meaning أَحْدَاث: see قَعْبٌ.

وُرْقَةٌ ذ Ash-colour. (Msb.) See سُمْرَةٌ.

وَرِقَةٌ ذ and وَرِيقَةٌ: see وَارِقٌ.

شَجَرٌ وَارِقٌ ذ Trees having leaves: (Msb:) [or leafy trees; trees having many leaves; for] شَجَرَةٌ وَارِقَةٌ (TA) and ↓ وَرِقَةٌ and ↓ وَرِيقَةٌ (S, K, TA) signify a tree having many leaves. (S, K, TA.) And شَجَرَةٌ وَارِقَةُ الظِّلَالِ [ A tree having leafy coverings or shades ]. (K in art. غيل.)

أَوْرَقُ ذ , applied to a camel, White inclining to black; i. e. of a dusky white hue: or rather, simply, duskish; or dusky; (S, K;) or of a colour like that of ashes. (T, Mgh, Msb.) See أَحْمَرُ and خُطَبَانِىٌّ. ― -b2- أَوْرَقُ Ashes. (K.) See an ex. a verse cited voce عُنَّةٌ, last sentence.

وَرِكٌ ذ What is above the thigh; [the haunch; or hip; and often signifying only the hip-bone; and the hip as meaning the joint of the thigh? ] (S, K, &c.)

مَوْرِكٌ ذ of a camel's saddle: see 8 in art. عقل.

وَرَلٌ ذ : see ضَبٌّ: there are two species: وَرَلُ البَحْرِ the ورل of the river; the monitor of the Nile; lacerta Nilotica: (see Forskål, Descr. Animalium, p. 13:) and وَرَلُ الأَرْضِ the ورل of the land; the land monitor; lacerta scincus: vulg. pronounced وَرَن.

4 أَوْرَمَهُ ذ meaning أَرْغَمَهُ He angered him: see شَرَاهُ.

وَرَمٌ ذ , a coll. gen. n., Swellings, or tumours: n. un. with ة. The n. un. occurs in the TA, art. جدر, &c.

وَرْهَاآءُ الرَّخَمِ ذ : see رَخَمٌ.

1 وَرَى ذ , aor. يَرِى, inf. n. وَرْىٌ [and وُرِىٌّ and رِيَةٌ, K]; and وَرِىَ, aor. يَرِى; and ↓ أَوْرَى; It (a زَنْد) produced its fire. (Msb.) ― -b2- وَرِيَتْ بِكَ زِنَادِى, or وَرَتْ: see art. زند, and see وَقَدَ and زَهَرَ, and راى. ― -b3- قَدْحٌ لَا يُورِى: see خَيَّابٌ.

2 وَرَّى بِشَىْءٍ عَنْ شَىْءٍ ذ [ He pretended, or made believe, a thing, instead of a thing which he meant: as is shown by the explanation of a trad. in the TA]. (S, art. عرض; save that the inf. n. is there mentioned instead of the pret.) ― -b2- وَرَّى عَنْ كَذَا, inf. n. تَوْرِيَةٌ, He alluded to such a thing equivocally, or ambiguously: equivocated respecting it: he meant such a thing and pretended another. (M, K.) التورية is also called الاـِيهَامُ and التَّوْجِيهُ and التَّخْيِيلُ: (Kull, p. 113:) and signifies The using a word, an expression, or a phrase, which has an obvious meaning, and intending thereby another meaning, to which it applies, but which is contrary to the obvious one. (Msb.) See مِعْرَاضٌ. ― -b3- See 4.

3 وَارَاهُ ذ He hid it, concealed it, or covered it. (S, Msb, K, &c.)

4 أَوْرَى ذ and ↓ وَرَّى and ↓ اِسْتَوْرَى He made his زند to produce fire. (S, K.) ― -b2- See 1.

وَرْىٌ ذ Purulent matter in the interior of the body: or [ an abscess; or] a severe ulcer that discharges purulent matter and blood. (M, K, TA.) وَرْيًا وَقُحَابًا: see قُحَابٌ.

رِيَةٌ ذ : see رِئَةٌ, in art. رأى.

وَرَائِى كَذَا ذ Behind me is such a thing, as though it were a burden upon my back. ― -b2- مِنْ وَرَاآءَ وَرَاآءَ From behind a thing covering, or concealing. (TA.) ― -b3- فُلَانٌ مِنْ وَرَاآءِ فُلَانٍ Such a one is an aider of such a one: or a follower. (Ham, p. 206.) ― -b4- اَللّٰهُ مِنْ وَرَائِكَ God is seeking after thee, and watching, or lying in wait, for thee. (Ham, p. 206.) See also an ex. in the first paragraph of art. فتل.

النَّوْرَاةُ ذ The Book of the Law revealed to Moses. (Bd, iii. 2; &c.)

الوَزَعَةُ ذ i. q. أَعْوَانُ الرَّجُلِ. (TA in art. امل.) وازِعٌ: see فَارِعٌ.

4 أَوْزَغَتِ الطَّعْنَةُ بِالدَّمِ ذ : see أَزْغَلَت.

وَزَغَةٌ ذ A certain reptile (دُوَببَّةٌ); (S;) i. q. بُرْصٌ [ a lizard of the species called gecko, of a leprous hue, as its name برص indicates]; (TA, art. برص;) and i. q. سَامُّ أَبْرَص: (JK, M, K:) or سامّ ابرص is a name of the large وَزَغ; (A and Msb, both in art. برص;) or is of the large وَزَغ. (S and K. both in art. برص.)

1 وَزَنَ ذ It (a thing) was heavy: (Msb:) or outweighed, or preponderated; syn. وَجَحَ. (TA.)

3 هٰذَا يُوَازِنُ هٰذَا ذ This is equiponderant to this. (S.)

8 اِتَّزَنَهُ ذ He took it, or received it, by weight. (S, * Mgh, Msb, K. *) See an ex. voce سَنْجَةٌ.
