أَرْضٌ نَزِلَةٌ ذ : see حَشَادٌ.

نَزِيلٌ ذ A guest. (S, Mgh, Msb, * K.) See also Har, 353.

نَازِلٌ ذ [ Alighting, &c.,] has for pl. نُزُولٌ and نُزَّالٌ. (TA.)

نَازِلَةٌ ذ A defluxion: pl. نَوازِلُ. See سِلٌّ. ― -b2- نَازِلَةٌ A severe calamity or affliction, (S, Msb, K,) that befalls men. (S, Msb.)

مَنْزِلٌ ذ A place of alighting or descending and stopping or sojourning or abiding or lodging or settling: (Mgh:) a place of settlement: an abode; a dwelling; a place where travellers alight in the desert; syn. مَنْهَلٌ: a [ house, or mansion, such as is called ] دَارٌ: (S, K:) or, accord. to the فُقَهَاآء, less than a دار, and more than a بَيْت [ or chamber ], consisting of at least two chambers (بَيْتَانِ) or three. (Mgh.) See also بَيْتٌ.

مَنْزِلَةٌ ذ A space which one traverses in journeying. (TA, art. سير.) ― -b2- مَنْزِلَةٌ, used unrestrictedly, Station, standing, footing, or grade; honourable station or rank; a place of preferment. ― -b3- A predicament in which one stands. ― -b4- كَلِمَةٌ بِمَنْزِلَةِ كَلِمَةٍ أُخْرَى A word equivalent, or similar, to another word. ― -b5- [You say] يُسْتَعْمَلُ بِمَنْزِلَةِ كَذَا It (a word) is used in the manner of such [ another word ]; generally with respect to government, not necessarily with respect to meaning. (The lexicons passim.) ― -b6- النَّازِلُ مِنَ الدِّينِ والدُّنْيَا مَنْزِلَةَ النُّورِ مِنَ العَيْنِ Who is, in respect to religion and the world, as light to the eye.

مَرْعًى مُنْزِلٌ ذ : see مُسْكِنٌ.

2 نَزَّهَ ا@للّٰه ذ He declared God to be far removed, or free, from every impurity or imperfection, or from everything derogatory from his glory; like سَبَّحَهُ and قَدَّسَهُ. ― -b2- تَنْزِيهُ ا@للّٰهِ is The declaring God to be far removed, or free, [ from every imperfection or impurity, or from everything derogatory from his glory; i. e.,] from evil [ of every kind ]; or from the having anything like unto Him by participation of his essence or otherwise, and from defects that may not be imputed to Him. (TA.)

5 تَنَزَّهَ عَنِ الأَقْذَارِ ذ He shunned, avoided, or kept or removed himself far from, unclean things; (S, * Mgh, Msb;) preserved himself therefrom. (Mgh.) ― -b2- تَنَزَّهَ, used absolutely, and said of a man, means He shunned, avoided, or kept or removed himself far from, unclean things; kept aloof from, &c.; or from things occasioning blame. (TA.) ― -b3- تَنَزَّهَ is best rendered, when not used absolutely, He removed himself, or kept, far, or aloof: and with عَنْ following it, it may be rendered he shunned, or avoided. ― -b4- تَنَزَّهَ عَنِ البَوْلِ [ He purified, or cleansed, himself from urine: a meaning assigned in the TA, art. نزه, by an evident mistranscription, to استنزه]. (Msb in art. برأ: and a trad.) ― -b5- Also, He diverted, or recreated, himself; or took an airing; in the country, or in a garden. ― -b6- تَنَزَّهَ meaning He went forth to the gardens (S, Msb, K) and [ green fields, or] green plants, and meadows, (K,) is a mistake, (S, Msb, K,) accord. to some; but IKt holds it to be not so. (Msb)

نَزِهُ الخُلُقِ ذ [in copies of the K الخَلْقِ] and ↓ نَزْهُهُ and ↓ نَازِهُهُ [and ↓ نَزِيهُهُ and نَزِهُ النَّفْسِ (see ظَلِفٌ)] Who abstains from that which is indecorous, &c. (K, TA.)

نَزْهٌ ذ see نَزِهُ الخَلَقِ.

نَازِهٌ ذ see نَزِهُ الخُلُقِ.

نَزِيهٌ ذ : see نَزِهَ الخُلُقِ. ― -b2- نَزِيهٌ A pious man; or one who abstains from unlawful things. (TA.)

1 نَزَا عَلَى الأُنْثَى ذ He (a solid-hoofed, or cloven hoofed, animal, and a wild beast,) leaped the female; (S, &c.;) and so نَزَا alone, elliptically. ― -b2- نَزَتْ حَنْجَزَتُهُ, said of a camel: see عَزَفَ.

1 نَسَّ ذ , aor. يُنُسُّ, He went at a gentle pace. (TA, art. خبز.)

رِيحٌ نَسْنَاسَةٌ ذ A cold wind: see سَنْسَانَةٌ.

نَسِيجَهٌ ذ , applied to a wind: see نَيِّحَة, art. نوح.

نِسْعٌ ذ A plaited thong, serving for the noserein of a camel, &c., and sometimes woven wide, [ for a fore-girth, ] placed on the breast of a camel. (KL, TA.) See also نِسْعَةٌ.

نِسْعَةٌ ذ A kind of broad plaited fore-girth for a camel: pl. نِسْعٌ and نِسَعٌ and أَنْسَاعٌ: (S:) or نِسَعٌ and نُسْعٌ and نُسُوعٌ and أَنْسَاعٌ are pls. of نِسْعٌ, [a coll. gen. n.,] of which نِسْعَةٌ is the n. un. (K.) See عَظْمُ الرَّحْلِ, in art. عظم. ― -b2- أَنْسَاعُ الطَّرِيقِ (assumed tropical:) The furrows of the road, made by the beasts with their legs [or feet ] in its surface. (TA, voce شَرَكٌ.)

مِنْسَغَةٌ ذ An instrument for pricking bread: see مِرْقمٌ.

1 نَسَفَتْهُ الرِّيحُ ذ , (Mgh, Msb, TA,) aor. نَسِفَ , (TA,) inf. n. نَسْفٌ; (Msb, TA;) and ↓ اِنْتَسَفَتْهُ, (TA,) The wind carried it away; (TA;) i. q. ذَرَتْهُ [q. v.]; (Mgh;) namely, dust. (Mgh, Msb.)

مِنْسَفٌ ذ A vessel (وِعَاآء) in which dates [ and grain are shaken to remove the dust, &c. (TA in art. نفض.)

1 نَسَكَ ذ He worshipped: used transitively. See an ex. in a verse of El-Aashà, in the S, art. نصب. See 5.

4 أَنْسَكَ ذ [app. He washed and purified a garment]. (TA voce اـِجْتَابَ.)

5 تَنَسَّكَ ذ He devoted himself to religious exercises; applied himself to devotion; (S, Msb, K:) as also ↓ نَسَكَ (S, K) and ↓ نَسُكَ: (K:) or the last, he became a نَاسِك. (S.)

نَسِيكَةٌ ذ : see عَقِيقَةٌ.

مَنَاسِكُ الحَجِّ ذ The religious rites and ceremonies of the pilgrimage: or the places where those rites and ceremonies are performed. (Msb.)

8 اِنْتَسَلَ ذ said of camels' fur: see عَصِيمٌ.

نَسْلًَا وَأَسْلًا ذ is a form of imprecation against a man, like تَعْسًا وَنَكْسًا. (M, in art. اسل.)

نَسْلٌ ذ Progeny, whether of man or beast. (The Lexicons passim.)

5 تَنَسَّمَ شَيْأً ذ He sought, or endeavoured to get. or attain, a thing, with labour and perseverance: i. q. تَطَلَّبَهُ. (IbrD.) ― -b2- تَنَسَّمَ الخَيَرَ He sought, searched, or inquired, for, or after, the news. or tidings; (MA, KL;) [ as though endeavouring to scent it; ] so that he elicited it. (TA.)

نسم من الطريق ذ , denoting nearness and shortness of the way. see نبق and مُسْتَعْجِلَةٌ.

نَسَمٌ ذ : see نَسِيمٌ.

نَسَمَةٌ ذ A soul; syn. نَفْسٌ, with sukoon: and نَسَمٌ souls; syn. نُفُوسٌ. (Msb.) ― -b2- A man. (K.)

نَسِيمٌ ذ A gentle wind; a gentle gale: a breeze. ― -b2- The commencement of any wind before it becomes strong: (AHn, M:) or a pleasant wind: (S:) or the breath of the wind: (Msb:) or the breath of the wind when weak; as also ↓ نَسَمٌ: or a wind from which comes a weak breath: pl. of both أَنْسَامٌ. (M.) ― -b3- بَارِدُ النَّسِيمِ (tropical:) One who chills people: see ثَقِيلٌ. ― -b4- نَسِيمٌ Odour, scent, sweet or disagreeable: see رَائِحَةٌ.

نَيْسَمٌ ذ i. q. نَيْسَبٌ.

مَنْسِمٌ ذ The sole (بَاطِن) of the خُفّ: or, to a camel, the same as the سُنْبُك to the horse; (Msb;) [i. e., the toe, or nail, or edge of the fore part of the foot, of a camel: see ظُفُرٌ:] the extremity of the خُفّ of the camel and ostrich and elephant, and of the solid hoof: or each of the two nails (ظُفْراَنِ) of the camel, that are upon [ each of ] his fore-feet: or it is, to a she-camel, like the ظُفْر to a man: (M:) or the خُفّ of the camel, (S, K,) and of the ostrich. (As, S.) ― -b2- [Also, (assumed tropical:) The toe of a human being: see a verse cited voce جَذَا, art. جذو.]

6 تَنَاسَاهُ ذ He pretended that he had forgotten it: (S, KL, * TA:) and (TA) he forgot it; (MA, KL, * TA;) like ↓ نَسِيَهُ: (TA:) [or] he constrained himself to dismiss it from his mind. (MA.) ― -b2- تُنُوسِىَ It (a word or the like) was forgotten by degrees. (Occurring often in the larger Lexicons.)

النَّسَا ذ [vulg. عِرْقُ النَّسَا, app. The sciatic vein; ] the portion, in the thigh, of the vein (عِرْق) which, in the back, is called the وَتِين, and which extends to the shank, where it is called the صَافِن: (IAth, TA, voce أَبْهَرُ:) or the صاَفِن and عرق النسا are two branches of one عِرْق [or vein ]: (Ibn-Seenà, vol. i. book iii. p. 608: [where the opening of each of these to let blood is mentioned:]) [in a solid-hoofed animal,] النسا is a vein (عِرْق) proceeding from the hip, or haunch, lying within each thigh, then passing by the hock, so as to reach the hoof: when the breast is fat, each of its thighs becomes cleft by two large portions of flesh, and the نسا runs between them, and is apparent. (S.) [In the present day it seems to be applied by some to the sciatic nerve: and عِرْقُ النَّسَا, as also النَسَا alone, often signifies sciatica, or hip-gout: see نِقْرِسٌ and also شَنِجٌ.

مُنْسِيهَا ذ for مَنْسِئِهَا: see a verse cited voce عُقْبَةٌ.

1 نَشَفَ المَاآءَ ذ , aor. نَشِفَ , (Mgh, Msb,) inf. n. نَشْفٌ, (Msb,) He took [or absorbed ] the water from the ground, (Mgh, Msb,) or from a pool, (Mgh,) with a piece of rag or some other thing (Mgh, Msb) of a similar kind. (Msb.)

2 نَشَّفَتْ ذ She (a camel) [ yielded frothy milk; ] had نُشَافَة. (S in art. رغو. [See 2 in that art.])

4 أَنْشَفَ الأَرْضَ المَاآءَ ذ [ It caused the earth to imbibe the water ], said of the سَمُوم. (K voce أَضْرَبَ.)

مِنْشَفَةٌ ذ (pl. مَنَاشِف) A drying-towel; napkin.

5 تَنَشَّقَ see 10.

10 اِسْتَنْشَقَ الرِّيحَ ذ (assumed tropical:) [ He snuffed the wind ]: (TA, art. مخر:) he snuffed, scented, or smelt, the wind; as also ↓ تَنَشَّقَهَا. (Msb.) See 10 in art. شم.

نُشَاقَةٌ ذ What is taken [or ladled out ], while hot, from a cooking-pot. (TA.)
