وَقَدْ أَخَذَ الطِّفْلُ هَذِهِ الْمُكَافَأَةَ فَرَحًا، وَشَكَرَ الْخَلِيفَةَ هَارُونَ الرَّشِيدَ عَلَى تِلْكَ الْمُكَافَأَةِ، وَدَعَا لَهُ، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ إِلَى بَيْتِهِ مَسْرُورًا، لِيَقُصَّ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ وَأَصْحَابِهِ ذَلِكَ الْخَبَرَ السَّارَّ. الطِّفْلُ وَهُوَ فَرِحٌ بِمُكَافَأَتِهِ وَتَقْدِيرِ ذَكَائِهِ. وَلَمَّا خَرَجَ الطِّفْلُ الْتَفَتَ الْخَلِيفَةُ إِلَى الْقَاضِي الَّذِي بَرَّأَ التَّاجِرَ حَسَنًا مِنْ قَبْلُ، وَقَالَ لَهُ: أَرَأَيْتَ كَيْفَ أَظْهَرَ هَذَا الطِّفْلُ – بِذَكَائِهِ وَفِطْنَتِهِ – جَرِيمَةَ التَّاجِرِ الْخَائِنِ الَّذِي بَرَّأْتَهُ؟ فَاعْتَذَرَ إِلَيْهِ الْقَاضِي، وَشَارَكَ الْخَلِيفَةَ فِي إِعْجَابِهِ بِذَكَاءِ الطِّفْلِ وَبُعْدِ نَظَرِهِ.
