أَتَخَيَّلُ نَفْسِي أَقِفُ أَمَامَ مَسْرَحِ جَبَلَةَ الرُّومَانِيِّ، ثُمَّ أَصِفُهُ بِبَعْضِ الْعِبَارَاتِ.

I imagine myself standing before the Roman theater in Jableh, describing it in a few words.

أُنَاقِشُ زُمَلَائِي فِي أَهَمِّيَّةِ هَذَا الْمَكَانِ، مُبْرِزاً دَوْرَ الْآثَارِ فِي التَّوَاصُلِ بَيْنَ الْمَاضِي وَالْحَاضِرِ.

I discuss the importance of this site with my colleagues, highlighting how monuments bridge the past and the present.

طَلَبَ الْمُعَلِّمُ إِلَى مَازِنٍ كِتَابَةَ مَوْضُوعٍ عَنْ تَدْمُرَ.

The teacher asked Mazen to write a paper about Palmyra.

وَعِنْدَمَا عَادَ مَازِنٌ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ قَرَأَ كِتَاباً عَنْ حَضَارَةِ تَدْمُرَ.

When Mazen returned home, he read a book about Palmyrene civilization.

وَاخْتَارَ مِنْهُ أَسْطُراً تَحْتَوِي مَعْلُومَاتٍ وَاضِحَةً وَنَقَلَهَا عَلَى دَفْتَرِهِ.

He selected a few lines containing clear information and copied them into his notebook.

ثُمَّ نَظَّمَ الْمَعْلُومَاتِ الَّتِي جَمَعَهَا، وَكَتَبَهَا بِخَطٍّ جَمِيلٍ.

He then organized the information he had gathered and wrote it out in beautiful handwriting.

وَفِي الْيَوْمِ التَّالِي، طَلَبَ الْمُعَلِّمُ إِلَى مَازِنٍ قِرَاءَةَ مَا كَتَبَهُ فَقَالَ:

The next day, the teacher asked Mazen to read what he had written, and he began:

اكْتَسَبَتْ تَدْمُرُ مَكَانَةً عَظِيمَةً بَيْنَ مَمَالِكِ الْعَالَمِ الْقَدِيمِ.

Palmyra attained a position of great importance among the kingdoms of the ancient world.

وَاشْتَهَرَ أَبْنَاؤُهَا فِي الْكَثِيرِ مِنَ الْمَجَالَاتِ، وَمِنْ هَذِهِ الْمَجَالَاتِ: التِّجَارَةُ وَالْعُمْرَانُ.

Its people were renowned in many fields, most notably trade and architecture.

فَقَدِ ازْدَهَرَتْ تِجَارَتُهَا، وَوَضَعَتْ قَانُوناً تِجَارِيّاً يُنَظِّمُ عَمَلَهَا.

Their trade flourished, and they established commercial laws to regulate it.

وَبَرَعَ الْفَنَّانُ التَّدْمُرِيُّ بِصُنْعِ الْمَنْحُوتَاتِ الْبَدِيعَةِ الَّتِي مَا زَالَتْ آثَارُهَا شَاهِدَةً عَلَيْهَا حَتَّى يَوْمِنَا هَذَا.

Palmyrene artists excelled at crafting exquisite sculptures that remain as evidence of their skill to this day.
