بَابُ اسْتِحْبَابِ صَوْمِ الاِثْنَيْنِ وَالْخَمِيسِ. أَمَّا صَوْمُ يَوْمِ الْخَمِيسِ فَهُوَ أَيْضًا سُنَّةٌ، لَكِنَّهُ دُونَ صَوْمِ يَوْمِ الاِثْنَيْنِ، صَوْمُ يَوْمِ الاِثْنَيْنِ أَفْضَلُ، وَكِلَاهُمَا فَاضِلٌ. وَإِنَّمَا كَانَ صِيَامُهُمَا فَاضِلًا؛ لِأَنَّهُ يُرْوَى عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّ الْأَعْمَالَ تُعْرَضُ فِيهِمَا عَلَى اللَّهِ، قَالَ: «فَأُحِبُّ أَنْ يُعْرَضَ عَمَلِي وَأَنَا صَائِمٌ». وَأَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ صِيَامُ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ، أَنْ يَصُومَ الْإِنْسَانُ يَوْمًا، وَيُفْطِرَ يَوْمًا، هَذَا لِمَنْ قَدَرَ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ عَلَيْهِ مَشَقَّةٌ، وَلَمْ يُضَيِّعْ بِسَبَبِهِ الْأَعْمَالَ الْمَشْرُوعَةَ الْأُخْرَى، وَلَمْ يَمْنَعْهُ عَنْ تَعَلُّمِ الْعِلْمِ؛ لِأَنَّ هُنَاكَ عِبَادَاتٌ أُخْرَى، إِذَا كَانَ كَثْرَةُ الصِّيَامِ يُعْجِزُكَ عَنْهَا فَلَا تُكْثِرِ الصِّيَامَ. وَاللَّهُ الْمُوَفِّقُ.

بَابُ اسْتِحْبَابِ صَوْمِ الاِثْنَيْنِ وَالْخَمِيسِ.
(from previous page) ⟵ But the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth days are better and more virtuous, because they are days of the desirability of fasting on Mondays and Thursdays.
أَمَّا صَوْمُ يَوْمِ الْخَمِيسِ فَهُوَ أَيْضًا سُنَّةٌ، لَكِنَّهُ دُونَ صَوْمِ يَوْمِ الاِثْنَيْنِ، صَوْمُ يَوْمِ الاِثْنَيْنِ أَفْضَلُ، وَكِلَاهُمَا فَاضِلٌ.
Fasting on Thursday is also a Sunnah, though it ranks below fasting on Monday. Both are virtuous, but Monday holds greater merit.
وَإِنَّمَا كَانَ صِيَامُهُمَا فَاضِلًا؛ لِأَنَّهُ يُرْوَى عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّ الْأَعْمَالَ تُعْرَضُ فِيهِمَا عَلَى اللَّهِ، قَالَ: «فَأُحِبُّ أَنْ يُعْرَضَ عَمَلِي وَأَنَا صَائِمٌ».
The merit of these two days stems from the tradition that deeds are presented to Allah on them. The Prophet said, "I would like my deeds to be presented while I am fasting."
