بَلْ نُقَلِّمُهَا، وَهَكَذَا بَقِيَّةُ الْفِطْرَةِ، إِذَا وَافَقَنَا فِيهَا الْكُفَّارُ فَإِنَّنَا لَا نَعْدِلُ عَنْهَا، وَاللَّهُ الْمُوَفِّقُ.

We trim them instead. The same applies to the rest of the natural practices; we do not abandon them simply because disbelievers happen to share them. Allah is the source of all guidance.

وَلْتَعْلَمْ أَنَّ الْإِكْثَارَ مِنْ اسْتِخْدَامِ الْمَاءِ فِي الْوُضُوءِ، أَوِ الْغُسْلِ دَاخِلٌ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى: ﴿يَا بَنِي آدَمَ خُذُوا زِينَتَكُمْ عِندَ كُلِّ مَسْجِدٍ وَكُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا وَلَا تُسْرِفُوا إِنَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُسْرِفِينَ﴾ [الْأَعْرَافِ: ٣١].

Understand that using excessive water for ablution or ritual bathing falls under the command of the Almighty: "O children of Adam, take your adornment at every mosque, and eat and drink, but do not be excessive. Indeed, He does not love those who commit excess."

وَلِهَذَا قَالَ الْفُقَهَاءُ رَحِمَهُمُ اللَّهُ: يُكْرَهُ الْإِسْرَافُ، وَلَوْ كَانَ عَلَى نَهْرٍ جَارٍ، فَكَيْفَ إِذَا كَانَ عَلَى آلَاتٍ تَسْتَخْرِجُ الْمَاءَ مِنْ جَوْفِ الْأَرْضِ، فَالْحَاصِلُ: أَنَّ الْإِسْرَافَ فِي الْوُضُوءِ وَغَيْرِ الْوُضُوءِ مِنَ الْأُمُورِ الْمَذْمُومَةِ.

For this reason, the jurists—may Allah have mercy on them—stated that extravagance is discouraged even if one is by a flowing river. How much more so, then, when using machinery to pump water from deep underground? Ultimately, wastefulness in ablution or any other matter is strictly blameworthy.
