شَرْحُ رِيَاضِ الصَّالِحِينَ مِنْ كَلَامِ سَيِّدِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاخْتَلَفَ الْعُلَمَاءُ رَحِمَهُمُ اللَّهُ هَلْ تُشْتَرَطُ لَهُ الطَّهَارَةُ أَوْ لَا؟ وَالصَّحِيحُ: أَنَّهَا لَا تُشْتَرَطُ، وَذَلِكَ لِأَنَّ هَذَا يَأْتِي بَغْتَةً وَالْإِنْسَانُ غَيْرُ مُتَأَهِّبٍ، فَلَوْ ذَهَبَ يَتَوَضَّأُ لَطَالَ الْفَصْلُ بَيْنَ السَّبَبِ وَمُسَبِّبِهِ، إِذَا كَانَ عَلَى غَيْرِ طَهَارَةٍ فَلْيَسْجُدْ، وَاللَّهُ الْمُوَفِّقُ.

شَرْحُ رِيَاضِ الصَّالِحِينَ مِنْ كَلَامِ سَيِّدِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
A Commentary on Riyadh as-Salihin, drawn from the words of the Master of the Messengers, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
وَاخْتَلَفَ الْعُلَمَاءُ رَحِمَهُمُ اللَّهُ هَلْ تُشْتَرَطُ لَهُ الطَّهَارَةُ أَوْ لَا؟
Scholars, may Allah have mercy on them, have differed on whether ritual purity is a requirement for this.
وَالصَّحِيحُ: أَنَّهَا لَا تُشْتَرَطُ، وَذَلِكَ لِأَنَّ هَذَا يَأْتِي بَغْتَةً وَالْإِنْسَانُ غَيْرُ مُتَأَهِّبٍ، فَلَوْ ذَهَبَ يَتَوَضَّأُ لَطَالَ الْفَصْلُ بَيْنَ السَّبَبِ وَمُسَبِّبِهِ، إِذَا كَانَ عَلَى غَيْرِ طَهَارَةٍ فَلْيَسْجُدْ، وَاللَّهُ الْمُوَفِّقُ.
The correct view is that it is not required, as this often occurs suddenly when one is unprepared. If a person were to stop to perform ablution, the delay between the cause and the act would be too great. Therefore, if one is not in a state of purity, they should proceed with the prostration. Allah is the Grantor of success.
