شَرْحُ رِيَاضِ الصَّالِحِينَ مِنْ كَلَامِ سَيِّدِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

A Commentary on Riyadh al-Salihin, drawn from the words of the Master of Messengers, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

نَسِيَ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ إِلَّا بَعْدَ مُدَّةٍ طَوِيلَةٍ سَقَطَتْ عَنْهُ ، وَكَذَلِكَ إِذَا دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ وَجَلَسَ نَاسِيًا، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ إِلَّا بَعْدَ مُدَّةٍ طَوِيلَةٍ، فَإِنَّ تَحِيَّةَ الْمَسْجِدِ تَسْقُطُ عَنْهُ؛

If someone forgets and does not remember until a long time has passed, the obligation lapses. Similarly, if one enters the mosque and sits down out of forgetfulness, only remembering after a long delay, the requirement to perform the mosque greeting prayer is waived.

لِأَنَّ الْمَقْرُونَ بِسَبَبٍ لَا بُدَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ مُوَالِيًا لِلسَّبَبِ ، فَإِنْ فُصِلَ بَيْنَهُمَا سَقَطَ، وَاللَّهُ الْمُوَفِّقُ.

This is because an act linked to a specific cause must follow that cause immediately; if a significant interval separates them, the obligation falls away. Allah is the Grantor of success.
