Subul al-Salam: An Explanation of the Nullifiers of Islam regarding the people of Jahiliyyah slaughtering animals at the graves of their great ones, and it is a means among the means of slaughtering for other than Allah, and it has been authentically reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) that he said: 'There is no slaughtering at graves in Islam,' and he said: 'Whoever imitates a people is one of them.'
It is a Hasan (good) Hadith narrated by Ahmad and Abu Dawud, and Ibn Baz classified it as Hasan in Majmu' al-Fatawa, and Ibn Taymiyyah said in al-Iqtida': 'This is a good chain of narration... Imam Ahmad and others used this Hadith as evidence, and the minimum implication of this Hadith is that it necessitates the prohibition of imitating them, even if its apparent meaning necessitates the disbelief of the one who imitates them,' end quote, and Ibn Baz classified it as Hasan in Majmu' al-Fatawa.
I say: If one imitates them in an act of disbelief, then he is one of them, meaning: a disbeliever like them; and if one imitates them in a sin among the sins or in clothing specific to them that is not among the rituals of disbelief, then he is among the sinners.
