- The second point: The people of the past used to invoke, alongside Allah, people who were close to Allah—either prophets, saints, or angels—or they would invoke trees or stones that were obedient to Allah and not disobedient, whereas the people of our time invoke, alongside Allah, some of the most corrupt people, and those whom they invoke are the very ones about whom they recount immorality, such as adultery, theft, abandoning prayer, and other such things.
- His statement: 'The second point,' meaning in explaining that the polytheism of the people of the past was lighter than the polytheism of the people of his time—may Allah have mercy on him—is that the polytheists during the era of the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to invoke people who were close to Allah—the Almighty and Majestic—or they would invoke stones or trees that were obedient to Allah and submissive to Him; as for these people, I mean the polytheists of his time, they invoke those about whom they recount immorality, adultery, theft, and other acts of disobedience to Allah—the Almighty and Majestic—and it is known that one who believes in a righteous person or an inanimate object that does not disobey Allah the Exalted is less severe than one who believes in someone whose corruption he witnesses and testifies to.
