وَهُوَ كَسْرُ صُوَرِ هَؤُلَاءِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَرْسَلَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَى أُنَاسٍ يَتَعَبَّدُونَ وَيَحُجُّونَ وَيَتَصَدَّقُونَ وَيَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا وَلَكِنَّهُمْ يَجْعَلُونَ بَعْضَ الْمَخْلُوقَاتِ وَسَائِطَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ اللَّهِ.

It is the breaking of the images of these righteous people; God sent him to people who worship, perform pilgrimage, give charity, and remember God often, but they make some created beings intermediaries between themselves and God.

يَقُولُونَ نُرِيدُ مِنْهُمُ التَّقَرُّبَ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَنُرِيدُ شَفَاعَتَهُمْ عِنْدَهُ مِثْلَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ، وَعِيسَى وَمَرْيَمَ وَأُنَاسٍ غَيْرِهِمْ مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ.

They say: 'We want them to bring us closer to God, and we want their intercession with Him,' such as the angels, Jesus, Mary, and other righteous people.

عِيسَى وَعَلَى غَيْرِهِ مِنَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ الْإِيمَانُ بِمُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَاتِّبَاعُهُ وَنَصْرُهُ كَمَا قَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى: وَإِذْ أَخَذَ اللَّهُ مِيثَاقَ النَّبِيِّينَ لَمَا آتَيْتُكُمْ مِنْ كِتَابٍ وَحِكْمَةٍ ثُمَّ جَاءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مُصَدِّقٌ لِمَا مَعَكُمْ لَتُؤْمِنُنَّ بِهِ وَلَتَنْصُرُنَّهُ قَالَ أَأَقْرَرْتُمْ وَأَخَذْتُمْ عَلَى ذَلِكُمْ إِصْرِي قَالُوا أَقْرَرْنَا قَالَ فَاشْهَدُوا وَأَنَا مَعَكُمْ مِنَ الشَّاهِدِينَ

Jesus and other prophets [are required to have] faith in Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, and to follow and support him, as God Almighty said: 'And when God took the covenant of the prophets, [saying], "Whatever I give you of the Scripture and wisdom and then there comes to you a messenger confirming what is with you, you [must] believe in him and support him." [God] said, "Have you acknowledged and taken upon that My commitment?" They said, "We have acknowledged." He said, "Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses."

وَهَذَا الرَّسُولُ الْمُصَدِّقُ لِمَا مَعَهُمْ هُوَ مُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَمَا صَحَّ ذَلِكَ عَنِ الصَّحَابِيِّ الْجَلِيلِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، وَغَيْرِهِ.

This messenger who confirms what is with them is Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, as has been authentically narrated from the noble companion Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with him, and others.

أَيْ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَسَرَ صُوَرَ الْأَصْنَامِ وَذَلِكَ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ حِينَ دَخَلَ الْكَعْبَةَ فَوَجَدَ حَوْلَهَا وَفِيهَا ثَلَاثُمِائَةٍ وَسِتِّينَ صَنَمًا وَجَعَلَ يَطْعَنُهَا عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ بِالْحَرْبَةِ وَهُوَ يَتْلُو قَوْلَهُ تَعَالَى: جَاءَ الْحَقُّ وَزَهَقَ الْبَاطِلُ إِنَّ الْبَاطِلَ كَانَ زَهُوقًا.

Meaning that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, broke the images of the idols on the day of the Conquest when he entered the Kaaba and found three hundred and sixty idols around and inside it, and he began to strike them, may God's peace and blessings be upon him, with his spear while reciting the words of the Almighty: 'The truth has come, and falsehood has departed. Indeed is falsehood, [by nature], ever bound to depart.'

أَيْ أَنَّ اللَّهَ بَعَثَ رَسُولَهُ مُحَمَّدًا عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ إِلَى قَوْمٍ يَتَعَبَّدُونَ لَكِنَّهَا عِبَادَةٌ بَاطِلَةٌ مَا أَنْزَلَ بِهَا مِنْ سُلْطَانٍ، وَيَتَصَدَّقُونَ وَيَفْعَلُونَ كَثِيرًا مِنْ أُمُورِ الْخَيْرِ لَكِنَّهَا لَا تَنْفَعُهُمْ، لِأَنَّهُمْ كُفَّارٌ، وَمِنْ شَرْطِ التَّقَرُّبِ إِلَى اللَّهِ تَعَالَى أَنْ يَكُونَ الْمُتَقَرِّبُ إِلَى اللَّهِ مُسْلِمًا وَهَؤُلَاءِ غَيْرُ مُسْلِمِينَ.

Meaning that God sent His Messenger Muhammad, may God's peace and blessings be upon him, to a people who worship, but it is a false worship for which He has sent down no authority; they give charity and do many good deeds, but it does not benefit them because they are disbelievers, and a condition for drawing near to God Almighty is that the one drawing near to God must be a Muslim, and these people are not Muslims.

أَيْ أَنَّهُمْ إِنَّمَا يَعْبُدُونَ هَذِهِ الْأَصْنَامَ لِتُقَرِّبَهُمْ إِلَى اللَّهِ زُلْفَى فَهُمْ مُقِرُّونَ بِأَنَّهَا دُونَ اللَّهِ، وَأَنَّهَا لَا تَمْلِكُ لَهُمْ نَفْعًا وَلَا ضَرًّا، وَأَنَّهُمْ شُفَعَاءُ لَهُمْ عِنْدَهُ.

Meaning that they only worship these idols to bring them closer to God in status; they acknowledge that they are subordinate to God, that they possess no power to benefit or harm them, and that they are intercessors for them with Him.
