شَرْحُ كَشْفِ الشُّبُهَاتِ.

Explanation of Kashf al-Shubuhat (The Removal of Doubts).

وُدًّا، وَسُوَاعًا، وَيَغُوثَ، وَيَعُوقَ، وَنَسْرًا.

Wadd, Suwa', Yaghuth, Ya'uq, and Nasr.

وَآخِرُ الرُّسُلِ مُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.

The last of the messengers is Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

هَذِهِ أَصْنَامٌ فِي قَوْمِ نُوحٍ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ كَانُوا رِجَالًا صَالِحِينَ، وَقَدْ جَاءَ فِي صَحِيحِ الْبُخَارِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّهُ قَالَ: هَذِهِ أَسْمَاءُ رِجَالٍ صَالِحِينَ مِنْ قَوْمِ نُوحٍ فَلَمَّا هَلَكُوا أَوْحَى الشَّيْطَانُ إِلَى قَوْمِهِمْ أَنِ انْصِبُوا إِلَى مَجَالِسِهِمُ الَّتِي كَانُوا يَجْلِسُونَ فِيهَا أَنْصَابًا وَسَمُّوهَا بِأَسْمَائِهِمْ فَفَعَلُوا وَلَمْ تُعْبَدْ حَتَّى إِذَا هَلَكَ أُولَئِكَ وَنُسِيَ الْعِلْمُ عُبِدَتْ!

These were idols among the people of Noah, peace be upon him, who were righteous men; and it has been narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari on the authority of Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, that he said: 'These are the names of righteous men from the people of Noah. When they died, Satan inspired their people to set up idols in the places where they used to sit and to name them by their names. They did so, and they were not worshipped until those people died and knowledge was forgotten, then they were worshipped!'

وَهَذَا التَّفْسِيرُ فِيهِ إِشْكَالٌ حَيْثُ يَقُولُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ هَذِهِ أَسْمَاءُ رِجَالٍ صَالِحِينَ مِنْ قَوْمِ نُوحٍ، وَظَاهِرُ الْقُرْآنِ أَنَّهَا قَبْلَ نُوحٍ قَالَ اللهُ تَعَالَى: قَالَ نُوحٌ رَبِّ إِنَّهُمْ عَصَوْنِي وَاتَّبَعُوا مَنْ لَمْ يَزِدْهُ مَالُهُ وَوَلَدُهُ إِلَّا خَسَارًا وَمَكَرُوا مَكْرًا كُبَّارًا وَقَالُوا لَا تَذَرُنَّ آلِهَتَكُمْ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وُدًّا وَلَا سُوَاعًا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسْرًا.

There is a difficulty in this interpretation, as he (Ibn Abbas), may Allah be pleased with him, says: 'These are the names of righteous men from the people of Noah,' while the apparent meaning of the Quran is that they were before Noah. Allah the Exalted said: 'Noah said: My Lord, indeed they have disobeyed me and followed those whose wealth and children do not increase them except in loss. And they conspired a great conspiracy. And they said: Do not leave your gods, and do not leave Wadd, nor Suwa', nor Yaghuth, nor Ya'uq, and Nasr.'

فَظَاهِرُ الْآيَةِ أَنَّ قَوْمَ نُوحٍ كَانُوا يَعْبُدُونَهُمْ وَأَنَّهُ نَهَاهُمْ عَنْ ذَلِكَ.

The apparent meaning of the verse is that the people of Noah were worshipping them and that he forbade them from doing so.

فَسِيَاقُ الْآيَةِ يَدُلُّ عَلَى مَا ذَكَرَهُ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ إِلَّا أَنَّ ظَاهِرَ السِّيَاقِ أَنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ الْقَوْمَ الصَّالِحِينَ كَانُوا قَبْلَ نُوحٍ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ.

The context of the verse points to what Ibn Abbas mentioned, except that the apparent context is that these righteous people were before Noah, peace be upon him, and Allah knows best.

دَلِيلُ ذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: مَا كَانَ مُحَمَّدٌ أَبَا أَحَدٍ مِنْ رِجَالِكُمْ وَلَكِنْ رَسُولَ اللهِ وَخَاتَمَ النَّبِيِّينَ فَلَا نَبِيَّ بَعْدَ النَّبِيِّ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.

The evidence for this is the saying of the Exalted: 'Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets,' so there is no prophet after the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

فَإِنْ قِيلَ: إِنَّ عِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ يَنْزِلُ آخِرَ الزَّمَانِ وَهُوَ رَسُولٌ.

If it is said: 'Indeed, Jesus the son of Mary, peace and blessings be upon him, will descend at the end of time, and he is a messenger.'

فَنَقُولُ: هَذَا حَقٌّ وَلَكِنَّهُ لَا يَنْزِلُ عَلَى أَنَّهُ رَسُولٌ مُجَدِّدٌ، بَلْ يَنْزِلُ عَلَى أَنَّهُ حَاكِمٌ بِشَرِيعَةِ النَّبِيِّ مُحَمَّدٍ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ لِأَنَّ الْوَاجِبَ عَلَى.

We say: This is true, but he will not descend as a messenger bringing a new law; rather, he will descend as a ruler according to the Sharia of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, because what is obligatory upon...
