شَرْحُ ابْنِ عَقِيلٍ : الْجُزْءُ الرَّابِعُ
(from previous page) ⟵ And the one which is a relative pronoun is the subject, and 'min ba'd' (after) is a preposition and noun in the genitive case related to an omitted predicate which is the relative clause, and 'ba'd' is a genitive construct and 'zann' (conjecture) is in the genitive case.
فَانْصِبْ بِهَا ، وَالرَّفْعَ صَحِّحْ ، وَاعْتَقِدْ تَخْفِيفَهَا مِنْ أَنَّ ، فَهُوَ مُطَّرِدُ
Make the verb accusative with it, accept the nominative case, and consider it the lightened form of 'anna', for that is the standard rule.
يُنْصَبُ الْمُضَارِعُ إِذَا تَقَدَّمَهُ حَرْفٌ نَاصِبٌ ، وَهُوَ « لَنْ ، أَوْ كَيْ ، أَوْ أَنْ ، أَوْ إِذَنْ
The imperfect verb takes the accusative case when preceded by a particle that governs the accusative, namely: 'lan', 'kay', 'an', or 'idhan'.
نَحْوُ : « لَنْ أَضْرِبَ ، وَجِئْتُ كَيْ أَتَعَلَّمَ ، وَأُرِيدُ أَنْ تَقُومَ ، وَإِذَنْ أُكْرِمَكَ - أَضْرِبَ كَيْ فِي جَوَابِ مَنْ قَالَ لَكَ : آتِيكَ
Examples include: 'lan adriba' (I will not hit), 'ji'tu kay ata'allama' (I came to learn), 'urid an taquma' (I want you to stand), and 'idhan ukrimaka' (in that case I will honor you)—or 'adriba' in response to someone saying, 'I will come to you'.
By saying 'la 'adda 'ilmun', he indicates that if 'an' follows a verb of knowledge or similar—signifying certainty—the subsequent verb must be in the nominative case. It is then the lightened form of the heavy 'anna'. For example: 'alimtu an yaqumu' (I knew that he stands), where the underlying meaning is 'annahu yaqumu' (that he stands). Here, 'anna' is lightened, its noun is omitted, and its predicate remains. This particle is not the one that governs the accusative for the imperfect verb, as this form is binary in pronunciation but ternary in derivation, whereas the other is binary in both.
وَإِنْ وَقَعَتْ بَعْدَ ظَنٍّ وَنَحْوِهِ - مِمَّا يَدُلُّ عَلَى الرُّجْحَانِ - جَازَ فِي الْفِعْلِ بَعْدَهَا وَجْهَانِ
If it follows a verb of supposition or similar—signifying probability—the subsequent verb may take either of two cases.
أَحَدُهُمَا : النَّصْبُ ، عَلَى جَعْلِ ( أَنْ ) مِنْ نَوَاصِبِ الْمُضَارِعِ
The first is the accusative, by treating 'an' as a particle that governs the accusative for the imperfect verb.
الثَّانِي : الرَّفْعُ ، عَلَى جَعْلِ « أَنْ » مُخَفَّفَةً
The second is the nominative, by treating 'an' as the lightened form of the heavy 'anna'.
فَتَقُولُ : « ظَنَنْتُ أَنْ يَقُومُ ، وَأَنْ يَقُومَ ، وَالتَّقْدِيرُ - مَعَ الرَّفْعِ - ظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ يَقُومُ ، خُفِّفَتْ « أَنَّ » وَحُذِفَ اسْمُهَا ، وَبَقِيَ خَبَرُهَا ، وَهُوَ الْفِعْلُ وَفَاعِلُهُ
You say: 'zanantu an yaqumu' and 'an yaquma'. The underlying meaning in the nominative case is 'zanantu annahu yaqumu' (I supposed that he stands); 'anna' is lightened, its noun is omitted, and its predicate—the verb and its subject—remains.
(1) 'Fa-insib': the 'fa' is redundant. 'Insib' is an imperative verb with an obligatorily hidden subject, understood as 'you'. The sentence is in the nominative position as the predicate of the subject—the word 'allati' in the previous verse—and it has been noted repeatedly that the predicate of a subject can be an imperative sentence. 'Biha' is a prepositional phrase related to 'insib'. 'Ar-raf'a' is a fronted object. 'Sahhih' is an imperative verb with an obligatorily hidden subject, 'you'. 'Wa-i'taqid' is an imperative verb with an obligatorily hidden subject, 'you'. 'Takhfifaha': 'takhfifa' is the direct object of 'i'taqid', and 'takhfif' is in a genitive construct with the suffix 'ha'. 'Min an' is a prepositional phrase related to 'takhfif'. 'Fahuwa': the 'fa' indicates causality, 'huwa' is a detached pronoun serving as the subject, and 'muttarid' is the predicate.
وَ (٢) وَمِنْ ذَلِكَ قَوْلُ الشَّاعِرِ ، وَهُوَ الشَّاهِدُ رَقْمُ ١٠٧ السَّابِقُ فِي بَابِ إِنَّ وَأَخَوَاتِهَا : عَلِمُوا أَنْ يُؤَمِّلُونَ فَجَادُوا قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْأَلُوا بِأَعْظَمَ سُؤْلِ
And among that is the saying of the poet, which is the aforementioned witness number 107 in the chapter of 'Inna and its sisters': 'They knew that they would hope, so they gave generously before being asked for the greatest of requests,' and some of them neglected 'an' by analogy to its sister, as it deserved to function. ⟶ (sentence continues on next page)
