- إِنَّ وَأَخَوَاتُهَا
- (from previous page) ⟵ The grammarians have differed in the derivation of that; Al-Kisa'i held that the nominative noun is conjoined to the noun of 'inna' considering it as a subject before the entry of 'inna', while the majority of the Basrans held that this nominative noun is a subject whose predicate is omitted, or its predicate is the one mentioned afterwards and the predicate of 'inna' is the one omitted, and the sentence of the subject and its predicate is conjoined to the sentence of 'inna', its noun, and its predicate. The researcher Al-Radi held that the sentence of the subject and the predicate in that case has no place [in inflection] and is parenthetical between the noun of 'inna' and its predicate, and this is good because of what is necessitated by making it conjoined to the sentence of 'inna', its noun, and its predicate, which is the precedence of the conjoined over part of that to which it is conjoined, because 'inna' is delayed in wording or estimation from the sentence of the subject and the predicate, and the predicate of 'inna' is a part of the sentence to which it is conjoined, [namely] 'inna' and its sisters.
- وَأُلْحِقَتْ بِإِنَّ لَكِنَّ وَأَنَّ مِنْ دُونِ لَيْتَ وَلَعَلَّ وَكَأَنَّ
- Lakinna and anna are grouped with Inna, distinct from Layta, La'alla, and Ka'anna (1).
- The rules for conjunction to the nouns of 'Anna' and 'Lakinna' mirror those of 'Inna'. You may say 'Alimtu anna Zaydan qa'imun wa 'Amrun' (I knew that Zayd is standing and 'Amr), using either the nominative or accusative for 'Amr. However, most scholars insist on the accusative alone in cases like 'Alimtu anna Zaydan wa 'Amran qa'imani' (I knew that Zayd and 'Amr are standing). Similarly, you may say 'Ma Zaydun qa'iman, lakinna 'Amran muntaliqun wa Khalidun' (Zayd is not standing, but 'Amr is departing and Khalid), using either the accusative or nominative for Khalid, whereas 'Ma Zaydun qa'iman lakinna 'Amran wa Khalidan muntaliqani' (Zayd is not standing, but 'Amr and Khalid are departing) requires the accusative alone.
