يَقُولُ: فَأَمَّا كَانَ وَأَخَوَاتُهَا، فَإِنَّهَا تَرْفَعُ الِاسْمَ، وَتَنْصِبُ الْخَبَرَ وَهِيَ: «كَانَ» مِثَالُ: «كَانَ زَيْدٌ قَائِمًا»، «كَانَ الْمَطَرُ نَازِلًا». «أَمْسَى»: مَعْنَاهُ دَخَلَ فِي الْمَسَاءِ «أَمْسَى الْجَوُّ حَارًّا»، لَوْ قُلْتَ: «أَمْسَى الْجَوُّ حَارٌّ» خَطَأً. «أَصْبَحَ»: «أَصْبَحَ الْجَوُّ بَارِدًا». «أَضْحَى»: «أَضْحَتِ الشَّمْسُ بَازِغَةً» لَوْ قُلْتَ: «أَضْحَتِ الشَّمْسُ بَازِغَةٌ» خَطَأً. وَالصَّوَابُ «أَضْحَتِ الشَّمْسُ بَازِغَةً». «ظَلَّ»: بِالظَّاءِ الْمُشَالَةِ فِي الْحَقِيقَةِ لَهَا اسْتِعْمَالَاتٌ كَثِيرَةٌ ظَلَّ الَّتِي مِنْ أَخَوَاتِ كَانَ هِيَ بِمَعْنَى صَارَ «وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُمْ بِالْأُنْثَىٰ ظَلَّ وَجْهُهُ مُسْوَدًّا». مِثَالُهُ: «ظَلَّ زَيْدٌ وَاقِفًا». «ظَلَّ الْمَطَرُ نَازِلًا» صَحِيحٌ، «ظَلَّ الْمَطَرُ يَنْزِلُ» صَحِيحٌ؛ لِأَنَّ الْخَبَرَ هُنَا جُمْلَةٌ فِي مَحَلِّ نَصْبٍ.

يَقُولُ: فَأَمَّا كَانَ وَأَخَوَاتُهَا، فَإِنَّهَا تَرْفَعُ الِاسْمَ، وَتَنْصِبُ الْخَبَرَ وَهِيَ:
He says: As for 'kana' and its sister verbs, they put the subject in the nominative case and the predicate in the accusative. They are:
«كَانَ» مِثَالُ: «كَانَ زَيْدٌ قَائِمًا»، «كَانَ الْمَطَرُ نَازِلًا».
'Kana', for example: 'Zayd was standing' or 'The rain was falling'.
«أَمْسَى»: مَعْنَاهُ دَخَلَ فِي الْمَسَاءِ «أَمْسَى الْجَوُّ حَارًّا»، لَوْ قُلْتَ: «أَمْسَى الْجَوُّ حَارٌّ» خَطَأً.
'Amsa' means to enter the evening. You would say 'Amsa al-jawwu harran' (The weather turned hot in the evening); saying 'Amsa al-jawwu harrun' would be incorrect.
