أَتَعَلَّمُ فَنَّ الْخَطِّ.

I am learning the art of calligraphy.

لِلسُّطُورِ أَهَمِّيَّةٌ كَبِيرَةٌ فِي تَنْسِيقِ الْخَطِّ، وَلِكَيْ يَكُونَ خَطُّكَ جَمِيلًا وَمُنَسَّقًا يَجِبُ أَنْ تَعْرِفَ أَنَّ هُنَاكَ أَرْبَعَةَ أَسْطُرٍ يُكْتَبُ بَيْنَهَا خَطُّ النَّسْخِ كَالْآتِي:

Lines are essential to formatting calligraphy. To ensure your writing is beautiful and well-organized, you must understand that Naskh script is written within four specific lines, as follows:

الْحَامِلُ الْأَسَاسِيُّ لِلْحُرُوفِ.

The primary baseline for letters.

الْخَطُّ الْعُلْوِيُّ.

The upper line.

الْقُرْآنُ الْكَرِيمُ.

The Holy Quran.

الْخَطُّ الْوَهَمِيُّ.

The imaginary line.

الْخَطُّ الْعُلْوِيُّ: هُوَ أَقْصَى مَا تَرْتَفِعُ إِلَيْهِ الْحُرُوفُ (ا، ل، لَا، ك).

The upper line: This is the maximum height reached by letters such as alif, lam, la, and kaf.

خَطُّ الْوَسَطِ: هُوَ الْحَامِلُ الْأَسَاسِيُّ لِلْحُرُوفِ الْعُلْيَا مِنْهَا وَالسُّفْلَى مِثْلُ: (ص، ط، ق، ف، س، ي، ن، د، ة، هـ، ت، م، ج).

The middle line: This is the primary baseline for the upper and lower portions of letters such as sad, ta, qaf, fa, sin, ya, nun, dal, ta marbuta, ha, ta, mim, and jim.

الْخَطُّ السُّفْلِيُّ.

The lower line.

الْخَطُّ الْوَهْمِيُّ: عَلَيْهِ تَقِفُ نِهَايَاتٌ لِعِدَّةِ أَحْرُفٍ، مِثْلُ: (ر، و، ن، ق، ي، ص، هـ).

The imaginary line: The ends of several letters rest on this line, such as ra, waw, nun, qaf, ya, sad, and ha.

الْخَطُّ السُّفْلِيُّ: هَذَا الْخَطُّ يُحَدِّدُ أَقْصَى دَرَجَاتِ الْهُبُوطِ لِلْأَحْرُفِ السُّفْلِيَّةِ، مِثْلُ: (ح، خ، ج، ع، غ، م).

The lower line: This line marks the maximum descent for letters that drop below the baseline, such as ha, kha, jim, ayn, ghayn, and mim.

تَنْقَسِمُ الْحُرُوفُ فِي خَطِّ النَّسْخِ إِلَى قِسْمَيْنِ:

Letters in Naskh script are divided into two categories:

الْأَوَّلُ: حُرُوفٌ تُكْتَبُ عَلَى السَّطْرِ، هِيَ: أ، ب، ت، ث، د، ذ، س، ش، ص، ض، ط، ظ، ف، ك، هـ، ل.

First: Letters written on the line, which are alif, ba, ta, tha, dal, dhal, sin, shin, sad, dad, ta, za, fa, kaf, ha, and lam.

الثَّانِي: حُرُوفٌ يَنْزِلُ مِنْهَا جُزْءٌ أَسْفَلَ السَّطْرِ، هِيَ: ح، ج، خ، ر، ز، س، ش، ع، غ، ق، ل، م، ن، هـ، و، ي، ص، ض.

Second: Letters that have a portion descending below the line, which are ha, jim, kha, ra, za, sin, shin, ayn, ghayn, qaf, lam, mim, nun, ha, waw, ya, sad, and dad.
