بَيْنَ يَدَيِ النَّص:

Introduction:

أَحْمَد شَوْقي شَاعِرٌ مِصْرِيٌّ، وُلِدَ عَامَ ١٨٦٨م، وَتُوفِّيَ عَامَ ١٩٣٢م، وَلُقِّبَ بِأَمِيرِ الشُّعَرَاءِ، وَهُوَ مِنْ أَشْهَرِ شُعَرَاءِ العَصْرِ الحَدِيثِ.

Ahmed Shawqi was an Egyptian poet, born in 1868 and died in 1932. Known as the Prince of Poets, he remains one of the most celebrated figures of the modern era.

نَشَأَ فِي كَنَفِ الخِدِيوِيِّ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، فَعَاشَ حَيَاةَ الشَّرَفِ وَالقُصُورِ، وَلَهُ دِيوَانٌ شِعْرِيٌّ اسْمُهُ الشَّوْقِيَّاتُ، وَلَهُ مَسْرَحِيَّاتٌ شِعْرِيَّةٌ مِنْهَا: عَنْتَرَةُ، وَمَجْنُونُ لَيْلَى، وَمَصْرَعُ كِلِيُوبَاتْرَا.

Raised under the patronage of Khedive Ismail, he lived a life of prestige within the royal palaces. He authored the poetry collection Al-Shawqiyat and several verse plays, including Antara, Majnun Layla, and The Death of Cleopatra.

وَالقَصِيدَةُ الَّتِي بَيْنَ أَيْدِينَا نَظَمَهَا شَوْقِي فِي مَدْحِ الرَّسُولِ مُحَمَّدٍ - عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ - وَالتَّغَنِّي بِخِصَالِهِ الحَمِيدَةِ، مُعَبِّراً فِيهَا عَنِ ابْتِهَاجِ الأَرْضِ وَالسَّمَاءِ بِهَذَا المَوْلِدِ العَظِيمِ، مُعَارِضاً فِيهَا قَصِيدَةَ البُوصِيرِيِّ، الَّتِي مَطْلَعُهَا: كَيْفَ تَرْقَى رُقِيَّكَ الأَنْبِيَاءُ، يَا سَمَاءً مَا طَاوَلَتْهَا سَمَاءُ.

The poem before us was composed by Shawqi in praise of the Prophet Muhammad—peace and blessings be upon him—celebrating his virtues. In it, he expresses the joy of heaven and earth at this momentous birth, while mirroring the structure of Al-Busiri’s famous poem, which begins: "How can the prophets reach your rank, O sky that no other sky has surpassed?"

وُلِدَ الهُدَى، فَالكَائِنَاتُ ضِيَاءُ وَفَمُ الزَّمَانِ تَبَسُّمٌ وَثَنَاءُ.

Guidance is born, and all creation is bathed in light; the mouth of time is filled with smiles and praise.

الرُّوحُ وَالمَلَأُ المَلَائِكُ حَوْلَهُ لِلدِّينِ وَالدُّنْيَا بِهِ بُشَرَاءُ.

The Spirit and the host of angels surround him, bringing tidings of joy for both faith and the world.

وَالعَرْشُ يَزْهُو وَالحَظِيرَةُ تَزْدَهِي وَالمُنْتَهَى وَالسِّدْرَةُ العَصْمَاءُ.

The Throne glows, the Sacred Enclosure flourishes, and the Lote Tree of the furthest boundary stands in all its glory.

بِكَ بَشَّرَ اللَّهُ السَّمَاءَ فَزُيِّنَتْ وَتَضَوَّعَتْ مِسْكاً بِكَ الغَبْرَاءُ.

Through you, God brought glad tidings to the heavens, which were adorned in celebration, while the earth became fragrant with musk.

وَبَدَا مُحَيَّاكَ الَّذِي قَسَمَاتُهُ حَقٌّ وَغُرَّتُهُ هُدًى وَحَيَاءُ.

Your countenance appeared, with features defined by truth and a brow radiating guidance and modesty.

وَعَلَيْهِ مِنْ نُورِ النُّبُوَّةِ رَوْنَقٌ وَمِنَ الخَلِيلِ وَهَدْيِهِ سِيمَاءُ.

Upon it rests the splendor of the light of prophethood, bearing the marks of the Friend of God and his divine guidance.

أَثْنَى المَسِيحُ عَلَيْهِ خَلْفَ سَمَائِهِ وَتَهَلَّلَتْ وَاهْتَزَّتِ العَذْرَاءُ.

The Messiah praised him from beyond the heavens, while the Virgin Mary beamed with joy.

وَمَسَاؤُهُ بِمُحَمَّدٍ وَضَّاءُ.

His evening is radiant with Muhammad.

يَوْمٌ يَتِيهُ عَلَى الزَّمَانِ صَبَاحُهُ، الحَقُّ عَالَى الرُّكْنِ فِيهِ، مُظَفَّرٌ فِي المُلْكِ لَا يَعْلُو عَلَيْهِ لِوَاءُ.

A day whose morning stands proud throughout time; the Truth rises high, triumphant in the kingdom, with no banner ever to surpass it.

خَيْرَ مَنْ جَاءَ الوُجُودَ تَحِيَّةً، مِنْ مُرْسَلِينَ إِلَى الهُدَى بِكَ جَاؤُوا.

Best of all who have graced existence, you are the one through whom all previous messengers brought guidance.
