يُسَمَّى الِاسْمُ الَّذِي بَعْدَ أَدَاةِ الِاسْتِثْنَاءِ مُسْتَثْنًى،

وَيُسَمَّى الِاسْمُ الَّذِي يَجِيءُ قَبْلَهَا وَيَشْتَمِلُ فِي الْمَعْنَى عَلَى مَا بَعْدَهَا مُسْتَثْنًى مِنْهُ.

الْمُسْتَثْنَى بِإِلَّا اسْمٌ يُذْكَرُ بَعْدَهَا مُخَالِفًا فِي الْحُكْمِ لِمَا قَبْلَهَا.
