بِهِ وَكَشَفَ عَنْهُ الْأَلَمَ، فَأَعْطَى الْمَلِكُ السَّيَّاحَ، وَوَصَلَهُ وَأَحْسَنَ جَائِزَتَهُ، وَأَمَرَ بِالصَّائِغِ أَنْ يُضْرَبَ حَتَّى يَمُوتَ وَيُصْلَبَ.

He relieved him of his suffering. The king rewarded the traveler generously, treated him with kindness, and ordered that the goldsmith be beaten to death and crucified.

ثُمَّ قَالَ الْفَيْلَسُوفُ لِلْمَلِكِ: فَفِي صُنْعِ الصَّائِغِ بِالسَّيَّاحِ وَكُفْرِهِ بِهِ – بَعْدَ اسْتِنْقَاذِهِ إِيَّاهُ مِنَ الْمَكْرُوهِ - وَمُكَافَأَةِ الْبَهَائِمِ لَهُ وَتَخْلِيصِ بَعْضِهَا لَهُ مِنَ الْقَتْلِ عِبْرَةٌ لِلْمُعْتَبِرِ، وَفِكْرَةٌ لِمَنْ يُفَكِّرُ، وَأَدَبٌ فِي وَضْعِ الْمَعْرُوفِ وَالْإِحْسَانِ عِنْدَ أَهْلِ الْوَفَاءِ وَالْكَرَمِ قَرُبُوا أَمْ بَعُدُوا؛ لِمَا فِي ذَلِكَ مِنْ صَوَابِ الرَّأْيِ وَجَلْبِ الْخَيْرِ وَصَرْفِ الْمَكْرُوهِ.

Then the philosopher said to the king, "The goldsmith’s betrayal of the traveler after being saved from disaster, contrasted with the animals’ gratitude and their efforts to save him from death, offers a lesson for the wise and food for thought for the reflective. It teaches us to bestow kindness and generosity only upon the loyal and the noble, regardless of how near or far they may be, for this is the path of sound judgment, the way to attract good, and the means to avert harm."
