الدَّرْسُ الْأَوَّلُ.

Lesson One.

مَعَانِي الْمُفْرَدَاتِ: هَوْنًا: بِسَكِينَةٍ وَوَقَارٍ.

Vocabulary: Hawnan: with tranquility and dignity.

قَوَامًا: وَسَطًا.

Qawaman: moderate.

اصْرِفْ: أَبْعِدْ.

Isrif: keep away.

لَمْ يَقْتُرُوا: لَمْ يُضَيِّقُوا.

Lam yaqturu: they did not restrict.

مَقَامًا: مَوْضِعَ الِاسْتِقْرَارِ وَالْإِقَامَةِ.

Maqaman: a place of stability and residence.

غَرَامًا: لَازِمًا.

Gharaman: binding or inseparable.

أَثَامًا: جَزَاءَ الْإِثْمِ (الْعِقَابُ).

Athaman: the penalty for sin (punishment).

شَرْحُ الْآيَاتِ: تُعَدِّدُ الْآيَاتُ السَّابِقَةُ صِفَاتِ عِبَادِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَهُمُ الَّذِينَ يَمْشُونَ بِسَكِينَةٍ وَتَوَاضُعٍ، وَإِذَا خَاطَبَهُمُ الْجَاهِلُونَ بِمَا يَكْرَهُونَهُ، يَرُدُّونَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِقَوْلٍ يَسْلَمُونَ فِيهِ مِنَ الْإِثْمِ وَهُمُ الَّذِينَ يَقُومُونَ اللَّيْلَ لِيَصْرِفَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ عَذَابَ جَهَنَّمَ وَالْإِنْفَاقُ عِنْدَهُمْ وَسَطٌ بَيْنَ الْإِسْرَافِ وَالْبُخْلِ، وَلَا يَقْتُلُونَ النَّفْسَ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا يَرْتَكِبُونَ فَاحِشَةَ الزِّنَا خَوْفًا مِنْ عِقَابِ اللَّهِ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى.

Explanation of the verses: These verses list the attributes of the servants of the Most Merciful. They walk with tranquility and humility. When the ignorant address them with insults, they respond with words that keep them free from sin. They spend the night in prayer so that God may avert the punishment of Hell from them. Their spending is moderate, avoiding both extravagance and stinginess. They do not kill a soul that God has forbidden, except for a just cause, and they do not commit the abomination of adultery out of fear of God’s punishment, Glory be to Him and Exalted.

مَوَاطِنُ الْجَمَالِ فِي الْآيَاتِ: (يَمْشُونَ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ هَوْنًا): تَعْبِيرٌ جَمِيلٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى تَوَاضُعِهِمُ الدَّائِمِ.

Aesthetic features: (They walk upon the earth in humility): A beautiful expression indicating their constant humility.

(اصْرِفْ): أَمْرٌ يُفِيدُ الدُّعَاءَ.

(Isrif): An imperative verb used for supplication.

(يُسْرِفُوا - يَقْتُرُوا - سَيِّئَاتٌ وَحَسَنَاتٌ): تَضَادٌّ يُبْرِزُ الْمَعْنَى وَيُوَضِّحُهُ وَيُؤَكِّدُهُ.

(Extravagant - stingy - sins and good deeds): An antithesis that highlights, clarifies, and emphasizes the meaning.

(يَمْشُونَ، يَبِيتُونَ، يَقُولُونَ): أَفْعَالٌ مُضَارِعَةٌ تُفِيدُ الِاسْتِمْرَارَ وَالتَّجَدُّدَ.

(They walk, they spend the night, they say): Present tense verbs that imply continuity and renewal.

(إِنَّ عَذَابَهَا كَانَ غَرَامًا): أُسْلُوبٌ مُؤَكَّدٌ (إِنَّ) وَهُوَ تَعْلِيلٌ لِمَا قَبْلَهُ.

(Indeed, its punishment is ever-binding): An emphatic statement (using 'Inna') that provides a justification for what precedes it.

اسْأَلْ وَنَاقِشْ: مَا صِفَاتُ عِبَادِ الرَّحْمَنِ؟

Ask and discuss: What are the attributes of the servants of the Most Merciful?

كَيْفَ يَتَعَامَلُ عِبَادُ الرَّحْمَنِ مَعَ الْجَاهِلِينَ؟
