الدَّرْسُ الثَّانِي: هَلْ فَكَّرْتَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَنْشُرَ؟

Lesson Two: Have you thought before you post?

وَفِي حِكَايَةٍ أُخْرَى، كَانَ أَحَدُ الْأَطْفَالِ يُشَارِكُ فِي الْيَوْمِ الرِّيَاضِيِّ، وَحَاوَلَ الْقَفْزَ فَوْقَ الْحَوَاجِزِ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ مَرَّةٍ، لَكِنَّهُ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فِي حِينٍ نَجَحَ جَمِيعُ أَفْرَادِ فَرِيقِهِ فِي الْقَفْزِ، فَقَرَّرُوا أَلَّا يَتْرُكُوهُ وَأَلَّا يَلُومُوهُ؛ فَتَجَمَّعُوا وَبَدَءُوا يَهْتِفُونَ: «اجْتَهِدْ، سَتَنْجَحُ، نَحْنُ مَعَكَ».

In another story, a child participating in sports day tried to clear the hurdles several times but failed, even though his entire team had succeeded. Rather than leaving him behind or blaming him, they gathered around and began to chant, "Keep trying, you can do it, we're with you."

تَابَعَ الطِّفْلُ الْمُحَاوَلَةَ حَتَّى نَجَحَ، وَكَانَتْ كَلِمَاتُهُمْ سَبَبًا فِي ثِقَتِهِ وَنَجَاحِهِ.

The boy kept trying until he finally succeeded, his confidence bolstered by their words.

تَخَيَّلْ أَنَّكَ اشْتَرَيْتَ مَلَابِسَ جَدِيدَةً فَقَابَلَكَ زُمَلَاؤُكَ بِعِبَارَاتٍ مِثْلَ: «مَا هَذَا اللَّوْنُ السَّيِّئُ؟!».

Imagine buying new clothes, only for your friends to greet you with, "What a hideous color!"

أَوْ أَنَّكَ رَأَيْتَ مَنْشُورًا عَلَى إِحْدَى وَسَائِلِ التَّوَاصُلِ الِاجْتِمَاعِيِّ فَانْتَقَدْتَ صَاحِبَهُ أَوْ سَخِرْتَ مِنْهُ..

Or consider seeing a social media post and immediately mocking or criticizing the person who shared it.

هَلْ فَكَّرْتَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَكْتُبَ أَوْ تَتَحَدَّثَ فِي وَقْعِ كَلِمَاتِكَ عَلَيْهِ؟

Have you considered how your words might affect them before you speak or write?

هَلْ تَأَكَّدْتَ مِنَ الْمَعْلُومَاتِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَنْشُرَ أَوْ أَنْ تَتَفَاعَلَ مَعَهَا؟

Have you verified the information before sharing or engaging with it?

هَلْ هِيَ مِنْ مَصْدَرٍ مَوْثُوقٍ؟

Does it come from a reliable source?

هَلِ النَّشْرُ لَنْ يُسِيءَ أَوْ يَظْلِمَ أَحَدًا؟

Will your post hurt or wrong anyone?

الْكَلِمَةُ قَدْ تَكُونُ سَيْفًا جَارِحًا، أَوْ دَوَاءً شَافِيًا.

Words can be like a sharp sword or a healing medicine.

فَاخْتَرْ كَلِمَاتِكَ بِعِنَايَةٍ؛ فَالْكَلِمَةُ الطَّيِّبَةُ قَدْ تُغَيِّرُ حَيَاةَ إِنْسَانٍ لِلْأَفْضَلِ، أَمَّا الْكَلِمَةُ الْجَارِحَةُ فَقَدْ تُطْفِئُ بَرِيقَ قَلْبِهِ. سَتَنْجَحُ.

Choose your words carefully. A kind word can change someone's life for the better, while a cruel one can dim the light in their heart.

سَتَنْجَحُ.

You will succeed.

الْمُفْرَدَاتُ الْجَدِيدَةُ: تُؤْذِينَا: تَضُرُّنَا.

دَوَاءٌ: الْجَمْعُ: أَدْوِيَةٌ.

Dawa' (medicine): Plural is Adwiyah (medicines).

Al-hawajiz (hurdles): Al-fawasil (dividers) or Al-mawani' (obstacles); singular is Al-hajiz (the hurdle).

الطَّيِّبَةُ: الْمُضَادُّ الْخَبِيثَةُ / السَّيِّئَةُ.

Al-tayyibah (kind): Opposite is Al-khabithah (malicious) or Al-sayyi'ah (bad).

يَهْتِفُونَ: يَصِيحُونَ، وَالْمُضَادُّ يَهْمِسُونَ.

Yahtifun (they chant): Yasihun (they shout); opposite is Yahmisun (they whisper).

وَقْعٌ: تَأْثِيرٌ.

Wa' (impact): Ta'thir (effect).

بَرِيقٌ: نُورٌ / ضَوْءٌ.

Bariq (sparkle): Nur (light) or Daw' (light).

تُطْفِئُ بَرِيقَ قَلْبِهِ: الْمُرَادُ: تُحْزِنُهُ.

Tutfi' bariq qalbihi (extinguish the sparkle of his heart): Meaning to sadden someone.
