In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
Introduction.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth.
I testify that there is no deity but Allah, alone, without partner, the God of the first and the last.
I testify that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, sent with the message of monotheism to the Lord of the worlds.
May Allah send blessings upon him, his family, his companions, and those who follow them in righteousness, and grant him abundant peace until the Day of Judgment.
To proceed: The Book of Monotheism by the Imam and caller, Sheikh Muhammad bin Abd al-Wahhab (d. 1206 AH), may Allah have mercy on him and grant him a generous reward.
In it, he clarified the monotheism that Allah made obligatory upon His servants, for which He created them, and for which He sent His messengers and revealed His scriptures.
He noted what contradicts its foundation, such as major polytheism, or its required perfection, such as minor polytheism and innovations.
The work became unique and unprecedented, a landmark for monotheists and a proof against pagans and the superstitious, spreading benefit far and wide.
Scholars occupied themselves with explaining and teaching it, and a group of noble, expert scholars undertook the task of commenting on it.
The first to explain it with excellence was his grandson, Sheikh Sulaiman bin Sheikh Abdullah, in his book Taysir al-Aziz al-Hamid.
Sheikh Abd al-Rahman bin Hasan followed with Fath al-Majid, and Sheikh Hamad bin Atiq provided a useful marginal commentary.
Similar commentaries were written by Sheikh Abdullah Aba Butayn, Sheikh Abd al-Rahman bin Qasim, Sheikh Abd al-Rahman al-Sa'di, and others.
Sheikh Abdullah al-Duwaish also authored an explanation of the issues raised in the Book of Monotheism.
Our Sheikh Muhammad bin Salih al-Uthaymin, may Allah preserve him, explained the Book of Monotheism during the lessons he delivered to his students at the Great Mosque in the town of Unayzah, may Allah fill it with His obedience.
