قُسَوِىٌّ ذ : see art. قوس.

قَشٌّ ذ Stubble; stalk of corn, &c.; straw. قشّ البَحْر Seaweed. قَشٌّ Rushes of which mats are made. حَصِيرَة قشّ A mat of rushes.

قَشَّاشٌ ذ : see رَمَّامٌ.

1 قَشَعَتِ الرِّيحُ السَّحَابَ ذ The wind removed, or cleared off, the clouds; (S, K;) as also ↓ أَقْشَعَتْهُ. (K.)

4 أَقْشَعَ ذ and ↓ اِنْقَشَعَ and ↓ تقشّع It (a cloud) became removed, or cleared off. (S, K.) See 1.

1 قَشِفَ ذ , inf. n. قَشَفَ, He was coarse in his living: this is the original signification: he was neglectful of cleanliness: (Msb:) he was neglectful of washing and cleanliness; unfrequent in paying attention thereto; slovenly with respect to his person: (M, Msb:) and ↓ تَقَشَّفَ signifies the like. (Msb.) ― -b2- قَشِفَ, inf. n. قَشَفٌ, He became sunburnt. (M.)

قُشَامَةٌ ذ : see قَمْشٌ.

1 قَصَعَ ذ : see an ex. voce صَادَّةٌ.

قَصْعَةٌ ذ A bowl not so large as a جَفْنَة, but next to it in size, that satisfies ten: (S, voce صَحْفَة:) it is a wooden bowl. ― -b2- قَصْعَةُ المَسَاكِينِ: see الفَكَّةُ.

أَخَذْتُهُ مُقَاصَعَةً ذ : see مُعَاقَصَة.

نَبَاتٌ قَصِيفٌ رَيّانُ ذ [ A weak, or fragile, sappy plant ]. (TA, in art. خرع.)

قَصَلٌ ذ of wheat and barley: see جُرَامَةٌ.

قَصِيلٌ ذ Corn, or seed-produce, (K,) or barley, (Msb,) cut while green, (Msb, K,) for fodder. (Msb.)

مِقْصَلٌ ذ : see مَخْصَلٌ.

قَيْصُومٌ ذ Artemisia abrotanum, or southern-wood; also called قَيْصُومٌ ذَكَرٌ: and قَيْصُومٌ أُنْثَى is applied to santolina.

5 تَقَصَّى ذ : see تَقَصَّصَ. ― -b2- تَقَصَّى شُرْبَ المَاآءِ فلم يسئر منه شيأ [ He drank the water to the uttermost, not leaving any of it remaining ]. (TA, in art. شف.) ― -b3- See 10.

10 اِسْتَقْصَى ذ He went to the utmost length, or point, in a question, (K,) and in like manner you say, اِسْتَقْصَى الأَمْرَ and ↓ تَقَصَّاهُ. (TA.) ― -b2- [ He exhausted a subject. ― -b3- He proceeded to extremities. He was, or became, extreme, in an action, &c.] ― -b4- اِسْتَقْصَى مَسْأَلَتَهُ [ He went to the utmost point in questioning him, or asking him, ] respecting a thing, so as to draw forth the utmost that he possessed [of information respecting it]. (S, art. نص.) ― -b5- اِسْتَقْصَى فِى المَسْأَلَةِ and ↓ تَقَصَّى (S, K) both signify the same; (S;) (tropical:) He reached, or attained, [ and elicited, and investigated, ] the utmost [ that was to be reached, &c.] in the question: (K, TA:) and in like manner استقصى الأَمْرَ and ↓ تقصّاهُ (TA) (tropical:) [ He investigated, or searched, to the utmost the case, or affair; ] he reached, or attained, the utmost of the case, or affair, in investigating it. (MA in explanation of the former phrase.) ― -b6- اِسْتَقْصَى عِلْمَهُ He attained the utmost knowledge of it. ― -b7- اِسْتَقْصَى مَا عِنْدَ نَاقَتِهِ مِنَ السَّيْرِ [ He elicited, or exacted, the utmost of his she-camel's pace, or power of going on ]. (TA, art. نص.) ― -b8- اِسْتِقْصَاآءٌ, metonymically, signifies (tropical:) The being niggardly, stingy, or avaricious. (Az, TA in art. دنق.) ― -b9- اِسْتَقْصَيْتُ المَكَانَ [?] i. q. اِسْتَعْذَيْتُهُ. (TA in art. عذى.)

حُطْنِى القَصَا ذ , and القَصَاآءَ: and حَاطُونَا القَصَاآءَ: &c.: see art. حوط, and see 1 in art. حبو.

قُصْيَا ذ is like دُنْيَا and عُلْيَا, with و changed into ى. (ISd in TA, voce بُقْوَى.)

قَضْقَاضٌ ذ , (K,) and some say قَصْقَاصٌ, (TA,) The أُشْنَان of Syria: (K, TA:) or the green, and lank (سَبْط), thereof: (Ibn-'Abbád, TA:) or a species of trees of the [ kind called ] حَمْض, (AHn, K, TA,) slender and yellow. (AHn, TA.) See فِرْسٌ.

قَضِيفٌ ذ Lean, or light of flesh. (TA in art. شلو.)

1 قَضِمَ ذ He crunched, nibbled or gnawed? See خَضِمَ: and see also Freytag's Arab. Prov. ii. 245.

قَضَامٌ ذ : see خُضَامَةٌ.

مَقْضَمٌ ذ : see خُضَامَةٌ.

قَضِيمٌ ذ as meaning A skin &c. has for pl. أَقْضِمَةٌ [a pl. of pauc.] and قُضُمٌ, and قُضْمٌ, accord. to Sb, is a quasi-pl. n., (TA,) and قَضَمٌ is a pl. [or quasi-pl. n.] thereof as meaning a white skin upon which one writes. (S, K.) See an ex. of قُضُمٌ voce عَسِيبٌ.

1 قَضَى ذ He finished a thing entirely, by word, or by deed. This is the primary meaning. (Bd, ii. 111.) By word, as in وَقَضَى رَبُّكَ (Idem, ibid.) And thy Lord hath commanded decisively. (Idem, xvii. 24.) And by deed, as in فَقَضَاهُنَّ سَبْعَ سَمٰوَاتٍ [Kur, xli. 11, And he completed them seven heavens ]. (Idem, ii. 11.) ― -b2- And He (God) desired a thing so as to necessitate its being. (Idem, ii. 11.) ― -b3- اـِذَا قَضَى أَمْرًا, [Kur, ii. 111,] When He (God) desireth a thing to be. (Bd, Jel.) ― -b4- [Thus it signifies He decreed a thing; ordained it; pronounced it; or decided it judicially. ] ― -b5- قَضَى عَلَيْهِ, aor. قَضِىَ , inf. n. قَضَاآءٌ &c., He decided judicially, or judged, against him; and بَيْنَ الخَصْمَيْنِ between the two litigants. (TA.) See قَدْرٌ. ― -b6- [ He completed; accomplished; or fully performed; a thing.] ― -b7- قَضَى He attained, or obtained, or accomplished, his want. (Msb.) ― -b8- [ He paid, discharged, or satisfied, a debt, due, claim, or demand.] ― -b9- قَضَيْتُهُ حَقَّهُ I gave him [or paid him ] his due, (Msb,) fully. (Har, p. 22.) ― -b10- قَضَى عَنْهُ (S, K, in art. جزى, &c.) He, or it, payed; or made, or gave, or rendered, satisfaction; for him. (TK in that art.) And followed by شَيْئًا [ He paid a thing for him, or in his stead; gave, or rendered, it as a satisfaction; lit. and fig.] (S, TA in that art., and Bd in ii. 45.) See جَزَى عَنْهُ; and see a verse cited voce دَانَ, in art. دين. ― -b11- He finished doing a thing: he finished his prayer. (TA.) He performed, fulfilled, or accomplished, the pilgrimage, syn. أَدَّى, (Msb,) and the religions rites and ceremonies of the pilgrimage, (Bd, Jel in ii. 196,) syn. قَضَىَ بِهِ. (Jel, ibid, Msb.) ― -b12- You also say, حَكَمَ بِهِ He decreed it; &c.; like حَكَمَ بِهِ: see an ex. voce سُلْطَانٌ. ― -b13- قَوْلُهُ مَمَّا يَقْضِى العَجَبَ [ His saying such a thing is of the things that induce wonder in the utmost degree ]. (TA in art. جلب.) See Har, p. 22. ― -b14- وَقَضَيْنَا اـِلَى بَنِى اـِسرائِيلَ (Kur, xvii. 4): see اـِلَى. ― -b15- قَضُوَ: see غَزُوَ, and هَيُؤَ, and بُطُاآنَ; and see طَمُعَ in the S.

3 قَاضَاهُ ذ He cited him before a judge. (TA.)

5 تَقَضَّىَ see 7.

6 تَقاَضَاهُ الدَّيْنَ ذ He took, or received, from him the debt. (M, K.) ― -b2- See 10. ― -b3- And see تَشَارَيَا.

7 انقضى ذ and ↓ تقضّى It passed away; came to an end, or to nought; became cut off. (K, TA.)

8 اِقْتَضَى كَذَا ذ It required such a thing: it required the inference of such a thing: it necessarily implied, or involved, such a thing as its consequence or concomitant; it required such a thing to be conceded; it necessitated such a thing. ― -b2- اِقْتَضَاهُ حَقَّهُ He demanded of him his due. (MA.) ― -b3- اـِقْتَضَيْتُ مِنْهُ حَقِّى I took, or received, from him my due. (Mgh, Msb.)

10 اِسْتَقْضَيْتَهُ ذ I demanded of him the giving [or payment ] of my due, (Msb, K, *) or debt; (K;) and in like manner دَيْنِى ↓ تَقَاضَيْتُهُ and بِدَيْنِى. (Mgh.)

قَضَاآءٌ ذ a term of the law; opposed to أَدَاآءٌ, which see: and see an ex. cited voce صَحَّ. ― -b2- A decree; an ordinance; a sentence, or a judicial decision. See عُودٌ, حُكْمٌ and دِينٌ. ― -b3- قَضَاآءٌ The exercise of the office of a kádee. [You say] القَضَاآءُ جَمْرٌ [meaning, the exercise of the office of a Kádee is one that often leads to hell]. (L, art. عود.)

قَضِيَّةٌ ذ A thing; an affair; a matter; a case; an event; an action: significations well known, but not found by me in any classical writing, nor in any lexicon, excepting as implied when the word is used in explanations: syn. أَمْرٌ and شَأْنٌ. ― -b2- A case of law. (L in art. جهد.) ― -b3- قَضِيَّةٌ كُلِّيَّةٌ [ A universal or general prescript, rule, or canon ]. (Kull, voce قَاعِدَة, p. 290; KT, in explanation of the same word.) ― -b4- قَضِيَّةٌ in logic, A proposition.

مُقْتَضَى ذ [ Exigence. ] ― -b2- مُقْتَضَى اللَّفْظِ That which the word, or expression, indicates. (ElFárábee, Msb, voce مُعْنًى.)

2 قَطَّعَهُ بِالضَّرْبِ ذ He mangled him with beating. ― -b2- تَقْطِيعٌ (tropical:) [ A griping, or cutting pain, in the bowels; ] i. q. مَغْصٌ in the belly; (S, K, TA;) as also تَقْضِيعٌ. (TA.) See also قُطْعٌ. ― -b3- تَقْطِيعُ الصَّوْتِ (K in art. جدف) A repeated interrupting of the voice in singing. (TK in that art.) See جَدَفَ. ― -b4- قَطَّعَ, inf. n. تَقْطِيعٌ, He articulated, or spelled, a word. ― -b5- See تَقْطِيعٌ.

3 قَاطَعَهُ ذ He separated himself from him, with the latter's concurrence; see فَارَزَهُ; and see اِنْقَطَعَ عَنْهُ. ― -b2- قَاطَعَا They disunited themselves, each form the other; severed the bond of friendship that united them, each to the other; contr. of وَاصَلَا. (K.) See 6.

5 تَقَطَّعَ ذ for قَطَّعَ: see S, voce خَطَرَ. ― -b2- تَقَطَّعَ: see تَصَرَّمَ: It (a wound or ulcer) became dissundered, by putrefaction. ― -b3- It (a garment, or a water-skin, &c.) became ragged, tattered, or dissundered, by rottenness. It (milk) became decomposed; it curdled, clotted, or coagulated; i. e. separated into clots.

6 تَقَاطَعَا ذ [ They became disunited, each from the other; the bond of friendship that united them, each to the other, became severed ]; (A, art. يبس;) تَقَاطُعٌ signifies the contr. of تَوَاصُلٌ: (S:) see تَصَارَمُوا.

7 اُنْقُطِعَ بِهِ ذ He became disabled from prosecuting, or unable to proceed in, or prosecute, his journey, (S, Mgh,) [ his means having failed him, or] his means of defraying the expense having gone, or his camel that bore him stopping with him from fatigue, (S, Mgh,) or breaking down or perishing, (Mgh,) or an event having befallen him so that he could not move. (S.) ― -b2- اِنْقَطَعَ فِى حُجَّتِهِ [ He was, or became, cut short, or stopped, in his argument, or plea ]. (TA, art. بلس.) ― -b3- اِنْقَطَعَتْ قِرَاآءَتُهُ is said when one is unable to perform [or continue] his recitation, or reading. (TA in art. عجم.) ― -b4- اـِنْقَطَعَ مِنَ الكَلاَمِ [or عَنِ الكلام (K in art. رجو) He broke off, or ceased, from speech ]. (TA, art. بلت.) ― -b5- انقطع الكَلاَمُ The speech stopped short, or broke off. (TA.) ― -b6- انْقَطَعَ عَنْهُ [ He broke off from him; separated, or disunited himself from him ]. See اِنْبَتَّ; and see فَاطَعَهُ here. ― -b7- اِنْقَطَعَ It became cut off, intercepted, interrupted; or stopped; was put an end to; or put a stop to; it stopped, or stopped short, it finished, it failed, it failed altogether; ceased; became extinct; was no longer produced; came to an end. ― -b8- He cut himself off, or became detached, or he detached himself, from worldly things, &c. ― -b9- اِنْقَطَعَ وَسَكَتَ مُتَحَيِّرًا [ He was, or became, cut short, and was silent, being confounded, or perplexed, and unable to see his right course ]. (TA in art. بهت.) ― -b10- اِنْقَطَعَ اـِلَى فُلَانٍ (tropical:) He made himself solely and peculiarly a companion, or an associate to such a one. (TA.) And اِنْقَطَعَ اـِلَيْهِ app. signifies (assumed tropical:) He withdrew from a person or persons, or a place, to him, or it: see بَاآءَ اـِلَيْهِ. ― -b11- اِنْقَطَعَ فُوأَدُهُ: see اِنْذَعَفَ.

8 اِقْتَطَعَ ذ [ He cut off for himself ] a piece from a thing: (S:) took a portion from another's property. (Msb.) ― -b2- اِفْتَطَعَ جَدِيثَهُ: see 8 in art. قضب.

قُطْعٌ ذ (assumed tropical:) Pain in the belly, and مَغْصٌ. (TA.) See 2.

قِطْعٌ ذ , applied to an arrow: see مَقَاطِيع and بَرِىٌّ.

قِطْعَةٌ ذ A piece; bit; part, or portion, cut off, detached, or separated from the whole; a segment; a cutting; a slice; a slip; or the like: a piece, or portion, or parcel, or plot, or spot, of land, ground, herbage, &c.: a distinct quantity or number: somewhat, or some of a number of things. ― -b2- A detached number of locusts: see رِجْلٌ: and so of a herd or flock, &c.: and a detached portion. ― -b3- قِطْعَةٌ, of poetry: see قَصِيدٌ: pl. قِطَعٌ, with which ↓ مُفَطَّعَاتٌ is syn.

قَطَعَةٌ ذ : see جَدَعَةٌ. ― -b2- ضَرَبَهُ بِقَطَعَتِهِ: see جُدْمُورٌ.
