نِقْمَةٌ ذ [and ↓ اِنْتِقَامٌ] Vengeance; or penal retribution. (JK.)

1 نَقَهَ ذ He recovered, but not completely, his health and strength: (TA:) or he became convalescent; or sound, or healthy; at the close of his disease: (S:) or sound, or healthy, but was yet weak. (K.) See بَرِئَ.

نَقاَهَةٌ ذ [ Convalescence; ] the slight degree of health that immediately succeeds sickness. (TA, art. برأ.)

2 نَقَّاهُ ذ He cleansed it; cleared it; picked it; purified it; removing from it what was bad. (Msb, &c.)

10 اِسْتَنْقَى ذ He took extraordinary pains, or the utmost pains, in cleansing his body. (Mgh.) You say also, اِسْتَنْقَى الذَّكَرَ مِنَ البَوْلِ (K, art. برأ,) [ He took extraordinary pains in cleansing the ذَكَر from urine: or] he cleansed the ذكر entirely from urine; syn. اِسْتَنْظَفَهُ. (TA in that art.) ― -b2- اِسْتِنْقَاءٌ: see voce اِسْتَبْرَأَ.

نِقْىٌ ذ The pith of canes, or reeds: see ذِهْنٌ. ― -b2- Somewhat of fat in a camel. (TA in art. طعم.) ― -b3- And Marrow; i. q. مُخٌّ. (TA voce صُهَارَةٌ.)

بَنَاتُ النَّقَى ذ , or النَّقَا, The حُلَكَة [or حُلْكَة]; to which the fingers (بَنَان) of virgins are likened: (T in art. بنى:) a certain small reptile, that dwells in sand, resembling a fish, smooth, and having a mixture of whiteness and redness; called also شَحْمَةُ النَّقَا. (TA.) See حُلَكَةٌ and شَحْمٌ. ― -b2- نَقًا or نَقًى An extended gibbous piece of sand. (S, * Msb, * K.)

نُقَايَةٌ ذ The extract, or refuse, of a thing: see عُصَارَةٌ.

مُنْقٍ ذ , said of a sheep, Becoming a little fat: see سَاحٌّ. ― -b2- A sieve, syn. غِرْبَالٌ. (TA, art. دوس.)

مُنَقِّيَةٌ ذ A woman who trims the split palmstalks in mat-making: see شَطَبَ and شَاطِبَةٌ.

4 أَنْكَزَ ذ : see مُنْكِدٌ and ذَمَّةٌ.

مَنْكِزٌ ذ : see مُنْكِدٌ.

نِكْعَةٌ ذ , so written for نَكَعَةٌ or نُكَعَةٌ in the O and K, voce سُوقَةٌ, q. v., [The head of a plant.]

1 نَكِفَ مِنَالشَّىْءِ ذ , aor. نَكَفَ ; inf. n. نَكَفٌ; and نَكَفَ, aor. نَكُفَ ; and ↓ استنكف; He abstained from, or refused to do, the thing, from disdain and pride. (Msb.)

5 تَنَكَّفَ بِمَوْضِعِ كَذَا ذ [ He waited, &c.,] i. q. تَلَيَّثَ. (TA in art. صقر, from the “ Nawádir. ”)

10 اِسْتَنْكَفَ مِنْهُ ذ (KL, * MA) He disdained, or scorned, it; was ashamed of it. (KL, MA.) See 1.

نَكَفَةٌ ذ : see غُنْدُبَةٌ, and لُغْدٌ.

1 نَكِلَ ذ , aor. يَنْكُلُ, see 1 in art. فضل.

النِّكْلُ ذ signifies أَلَّذِى يُنْكِلُ أَقْرَانَهُ. (A, art. عض.) ― -b2- See نَكَلٌ.

نَكَلٌ ذ and ↓ نِكْلٌ: see بَدَلٌ.

نَكَالٌ ذ Any punishment serving to give warning to others than the sufferer: (M, K, TA:) or that restrains the offender from repeating the offence. (Bd, ii. 6.)

نَكْهَةٌ ذ The odour of the mouth. (S, TA.)

1 نَكِىَ ذ , aor. نَكَىَ , inf. n. نَكَاآءٌ, He (an enemy ) was defeated, and overcome. (TA, art. نكأ.)

نِكَايَةٌ ذ The inflicting injury upon an enemy: (MA, KL:) slaying and wounding among the enemy: (S, K:) or making much slaughter, (MA,) or a great, or vehement, slaughter or wounding, (Msb,) [i. e. the making havock, ] among the enemy: (MA, Msb:) the inflicting a routing and overthrow among the enemy. (ISk, TA.)

نِيلَجٌ ذ and نِيلَنْجٌ Indigo-pigment: see نُوُورٌ, art. نور.

نُلْكٌ ذ A kind of medlar-tree, Mespilus aronia. See رُوبَةٌ.

1 نَمَّ ذ He [ uttered calumny: or] excited discord, or dissension, and made known discourse in a mischievous manner; or embellished speech with falsehood. (M, K.) You say, نَمَّ بِهِ and عَلَيْهِ, inf. n. نَمٌّ and نَمِيمَةٌ and نَمِيمٌ, or this last is pl. of نَمِيمَةٌ, (M,) meaning, He calumniated him; or misrepresented him. ― -b2- نَمَّ الحَدِيثَ He made known, divulged, or told, conversation, in a malicious or mischievous manner, so as to occasion discord, dissension, or the like. (TA, art. قت; and Msb. *)

R. Q. 1 نَمْنَمَ ذ He variegated a thing: he decorated or embellished it. (S, K.)

نَمِيمَةٌ ذ The sound of the bow-string. (Kr.) ― -b2- نَمِيمَةٌ Malicious and mischievous misrepresentation; calumny; slander; (S, K;) the embel-lishment of speech with falsehood. (Kr.)

نَمَانِمُ ذ The sutures of the skull; as resembling lines of writing; see شَأْنٌ.

نَمَّامٌ ذ now commonly applied to Wild thyme, thymus serpyllum: see شَبَهَانٌ.

نَامَّةٌ ذ The artery in the head: see أَبْهَرُ.

مُنَمْنَمٌ ذ A garment, or piece of cloth, figured with marks resembling writing, or otherwise. See مَذَبَّرٌ.

أَنْمَصُ ذ Having no eyebrows. (TA in art. ثط.)

نَمَّاغَةٌ ذ The upper part of the head: and also the part that is in a state of commotion, of the يَأْفُوخ of a child, before it becomes hard. (L, TA.) See also يَأْفُوخٌ.

2 نَمَّلَ الثَّوْبَ ذ [ He mended a garment ] i. q. رَفَأَهُ. (TA in art. لقط.)

5 تَنَمُّلٌ ذ A formication or stinging, as of the torpedo fish: see “ Abdollatiphi Hist. Aeg. Comp., ” p. 82.

نَمْلُ سُلَيْمَانَ ذ Red ants: see أَحْوَى, in art. حو.

أَنْمَلَةٌ ذ (thus generally written, Msb) The head [or end ] of a finger; (S, Msb;) i. e. (Msb) the joint (مَفْصِل) (Az, Msb) in which is the nail: (Az, Msb, K:) [i. e. the ungual phalanx, with, or without, the flesh upon it: (see قَصَبٌ:)] or a joint, or an articulation, (عُقْدَة) of the fingers. (Msb.)

1 نَمَى ذ , aor. نَمِىَ , inf. n. نَمَاآءٌ, It increased; (M, K, Mgh, TA;) multiplied; became plentiful, or abundant; (Msb, TA;) said of a thing, (Msb,) of cattle, or wealth, (S, Mgh, TA,) &c. (TA.) ― -b2- نَمَتِ الأَرْضُ The land throve, or yielded increase.

4 أَنْمَى الصَّيْدَ ذ The quarry died out of sight of the sportsman: see أَصْمَى.

8 اِنْتَمَى اـِلَيْهِ ذ He asserted his [own] relationship [ of son ] to him; (S, Msb, K;) like اِعْتَزَى. (S and Msb in art. عزو.)

نَامِيَةٌ ذ , of a grape-vine, The shoot upon which are the bunches of grapes: (M, K:) or the eye, or bud, that breaks open so as to disclose its leaves and its berries: (M:) or its branches: pl. نَوَامٍ. (T.)

R. Q. 1 نَهْنَهَ بِهِ ذ He cried out to him, or at him, namely, a beast of prey, in order that he might forbear, refrain, or abstain. (TA.)

النَّوَاهِقُ ذ The channels of the tears of a horse. (M in art. سم.)

1 نَهِكَ الشَّراَبَ ذ He consumed the beverage. (K.) ― -b2- نَهَِكَهُ الدِّباَغُ [ The tan wore it, or eroded it ], namely, a hide. (M and K, voce مُفَلْفَلٌ.) See مَفَلْفَلٌ.

8 اِنْتَهَكَ مَحَارِمَ ا@للّٰهِ ذ [ He violated the sacred ordinances of God; ] he did that which God had forbidden him to do. (Har, p. 18; where see more.) ― -b2- اِنْتَهَكَ حُرْمَتَهُ He violated [his honour, &c.]. (MA.)

مَنْهُوكٌ ذ Affected with a constant, or chronic, pervading disease; or emaciated by disease, so as to be at the point of death. (S, K.) ― -b2- See مَثْلُوثٌ.

نَهَلٌ ذ A fir t drinking: see عَلَلٌ.

مَنْهَلٌ ذ A watering-place; i. e., a spring to which camels come to water. (S, Msb.)
