مَكْرٌ ذ [ Artifice; machination; stratagem; fraud; fraudulence; guile ].

2 مَكَّنَهُ ذ He gave him a place: (Jel, vi. 6:) he assigned him a place, and settled, or established, him. (Bd, ibid, where see more.) You say also, مَكَّنَ لَهُ فِى مَنْزِلٍ [ He assigned, or gave, him a place in an abode ]. (S in art. بوأ.) ― -b2- مَكَّنَهُ مِنْ شَىْءٍ, and ↓ أَمْكَنَهُ, He made him to have mastery, or dominion, or ascendancy, or authority, and power, over a thing; (Msb;) put it in his power. ― -b3- مَكَّنَهُ مِنَ الشَّىْءِ, and مِنْهُ ↓ أَمْكَنَ, He empowered him, enabled him, or rendered him able, to do the thing: he enabled him to have the thing within his power. Ex. يَدَيْهِ ↓ أَمْكَنَ مِنْ رُكْبَتَيْهِ He enabled his hands to take and grasp his knees. from a trad. (Mgh.)

4 أَمْكَنَهُ مِنْ شَىْءِ ذ He made him to have a thing within his power, or reach: enabled him to do, reach, get, or obtain, a thing. See 2. ― -b2- أَمْكَنَهُ It was within his power, or reach; was possible, or practicable, to him. ― -b3- أَمْكَنَهُ It became easy to him. (Msb.) It (an object of the chase) offered him an opportunity to shoot it or capture it; or became within his power, or reach. ― -b4- أَمْكِنِى, said to a woman, [meaning Empower thou; i. e. grant thou access; ] occurs in a poem. (S, art. عرض.) ― -b5- أَمْكَنَتْهُ She granted him attainment.

5 تَمَكَّنَ ذ i. q. اِسْتَقَرَّ: (Msb, art. قر:) it is very often used in this sense, as meaning He, or it, settled; became fixed, or established; it became fixed, or steady, in its place; when said of a man, particularly implying in authority and power: see قَرَّ. ― -b2- تَمَكَّنَ مِنْ شَىْءٍ, and ↓ اِسْتَمْكَنَ, He became possessed of mastery, or dominion, or ascendancy, or authority, and power, over a thing; he was able to avail himself of it: [ he was, or became, within reach of him, or it. ] (Msb.) ― -b3- تَمَكَّنَ مِنْهُ He assumed authority over him.

10 اِسْتَمْكَنَ ذ : see 5. ― -b2- He, or it, was, or became, firm. It seems sometimes to mean It (a plant) took firm root.

مُكْنَةٌ ذ , (Msb, TA,) with damm, (TA,) Power; (Msb, * TA;) ability; (TA;) strength. (Msb.)

مَكِنَةٌ ذ i. q. تَمَكُّنُ. (Sh, TA.) ― -b2- النَّاسُ عَلَى مَكِنَاتِهِمْ means على مَقَارِّهِمْ. (IAar, TA.)

مَكَّانُ ذ : see مَصَّانٌ in art. مص.

مَكْنَانٌ ذ : see رَيِّحَةٌ.

مَكَانَةٌ ذ Greatness, and high rank or standing. in the estimation of the Sultán: (Msb:) an honourable place in the estimation of a king. (K.)

جَلَسَ مُتَمَكِّنًا ذ He sat in a firm, or settled, posture; as when one sits cross-legged.

مُكَّاآءٌ ذ The bird so called, because of its colour: see أَخْرَجُ.

1 مَلَّهُ ذ He put it (namely bread, or flesh-meat,) into hot ashes, [ to bake, or roast ]. (K, &c.) ― -b2- مَلَّ الثَّوْبَ He sewed, or tacked, the garment, or piece of cloth, [ slightly, ] previously to the [ stronger ] sewing termed الكَفّ. (S.) See also شَلَّ. ― -b3- مَلِلْتُهُ, & مَلِلْتُ عَنْهُ, I was avers from it; (T;) loathed it; was disgusted by it, with it, or at it; (T, S, K;) [ was weary of it; ] turned away from it with disgust. (T.) See سَئِمَ. ― -b4- مَلَّ مَلاَلُكَ [ May thy disgust pass away, or cease ]: see أَضَلَّ ا@للّٰهُ ضَلَالَكَ.

4 أَمْلَلْتُ ذ & أَمْلَيْتُ: see 4 in art. حظ. ― -b2- أَمَلَّ: see an ex. voce أَدَلَّ.

8 اِمْتَلَّ مِلَّتَهُ ذ He follows his way of religion: see 8 in art. شرع.

مَلَّةٌ ذ The hollow that is made for baking bread: or the hot dust and ashes [ in which the bread is baked ]. (Msb.) ― -b2- Hot ashes: (S, K:) ashes, and earth, in which fire is kindled. (TA, art. خبز.) ― -b3- خُبْزُ مَلَّةٍ Bread baked in hot ashes. (S.) [It is generally made in the form of thick round cakes.]

مِلَّةٌ ذ A religion; (S, Msb, K;) a way of belief and practice in respect of religion. (T, &c.) ― -b2- See 8.

مَلُولٌ ذ Conceiving [ frequent ] disgust. (Msb.) See ذَوَّاقٌ.

مَلاَلٌ ذ : see 1.

مَلِيلٌ ذ A man burned by the sun; as also ↓ مَمْلُولٌ. (TA.) See an ex. in a verse cited voce أَصْرَمُ; and see طُلْمَهٌ.

مَمْلُولٌ ذ Flesh-meat covered over in live coals. (TA, art. عرض.) ― -b2- See مَلِيلٌ.

مُلْمُولٌ ذ An iron style with which one writes on tablets. (K.) ― -b2- The style, or bodkin, with which collyrium is applied to the eyes. (S, K.) In the CK, incorrectly, مَلْمُولٌ: the former is found in MS. copies of the K, as well as in the S, and is right accord. to the TK.

مَلِيعٌ ذ : see غُمْلُولٌ.

1 مَلَقَهُ ذ He flayed him with a whip: like سَلَقَهُ. (TA in art. سلق.)

5 تَمَلَّقَهُ ذ , (S, K,) and تَمَلَّقَ لَهُ, (S, Msb, K,) inf. n. تَمَلُّقٌ and تِمِلَّاقٌ, [like تِحِمَّالٌ and تِكِلَّامٌ, not تَمْلَاقٌ as in the CK,] He behaved in a loving, or an affectionate, and a blandishing, or coaxing, manner to him. (S, Msb, * K.) See a verse cited in art. رضو, conj. 5.

مَلَقِيَّةٌ ذ [A swiftly-running mare ]. See عَبَّرَ بِهِ. مَلَّاقٌ Vehement in journeying, or in his pace; i. q. مَلَّاخٌ. (TA, voce مَلَّاخٌ.)

مِمْلَقَةٌ ذ A harrow: see مَلَّسَ.

1 مَلَكَهُ ذ He possessed it, or owned it, [and particularly] with ability to have it to himself exclusively: (M, K:) [and he exercised, or had, authority over it; for] مُلْكٌ signifies the exercise of authority to command and to forbid in respect of the generality of a people [&c.]: (Er-Rághib, TA:) or the having possession and command or authority: and the having power to exercise command or authority. (TA.) مِلْكٌ, as inf. n. of مَلَكَهُ meaning He possessed it, is more common than مَلْكٌ and مُلْكٌ. ― -b2- [مَلَكَ أَمْرَهُ He had the ruling, or ordering, of his affair, or case ] And مَلَكَ عَلَى النَّاسِ أَمْرَهُمْ He had the dominion, or sovereignty, or ruling power, over the people. (Msb.) -A2- See 4.

2 مَلَّكَهُ ذ He made him to possess a thing; (S, K;) as also ↓ أَمْلَكَهُ. (K.) ― -b2- He made him king; or made him to have dominion, kingship, or rule. (Msb, K.) ― -b3- يُمَلَّكَ الرَّجُلُ أَمْرَهُ [ The man shall be made to have the ruling, or ordering, of his affair, or affairs, or case ]. (Sh, T in art. دين.)

3 مَالكَ أُمَّهُ ذ : see شَدَنَ.

4 العَجِينَ ذ ↓ مَلَكَ and أَمْلَكَهُ He kneaded well the dough. (S, K.) -A2- See 2.

5 تَمَلَّكَ ذ He took possession of a thing [ absolutely or] by force. (Msb.)

6 مَا تَمَالَكَ أَنْ فَعَلَ ذ He could not restrain himself from doing; (Mgh, Msb;) syn. مَا تَمَاسَكَ [q. v.] (S.)

مِلْكٌ ذ : its pl. أَمْلاَكٌ, in common conventional language means [or rather includes] Houses and lands. (TA.) See its pl. pl. أَمْلاَكَاتٌ.

مُلْكٌ ذ Dominion; sovereignty; kingship; rule; mastership; ownership; possession; right of possession; authority; sway. ― -b2- مُلْكُ ا@للّٰهِ God's world of spirits; or invisible world. (TA, art. شهد.) ― -b3- [مُلْكٌ (when distinguished from ملكوت) The dominion that is apparent; as that of the earth.]

مَلَكٌ ذ An angel: see مَأْلَكٌ. ― -b2- مَلَكٌ Water. (S.)

مَلِكُ الأَمْلاَكِ ذ The king of kings. See أَخْنَعُ.

مَلاَكُ الأَمْرِ ذ and ↓ مِلاَكُهُ That whereby the thing &c. subsists: (S, KL:) its قَِوَام [q. v.] by whom, or by which, it is ruled, or ordered: (K:) its foundation; syn. أَصْلُهُ: (KL:) its support; that upon which it rests: (T, TA:) it may be rendered the cause, or means, of the subsistence of the thing; &c.

مِلَاكٌ ذ see مَلاَكٌ.

مَالِكٌ ذ : see رَبٌّ. ― -b2- مَالِكُ الأَمْرِ The possessor of command, or rule. ― -b3- المَالِكُ الكَبِيرُ The Great Master, or Owner; i. e., God; in contradistinction to المَالِكُ الصَّغِيرُ the little master, or owner; i. e., the human owner of a slave, &c. ― -b4- مَالِكٌ الحَزِينُ: (so in one copy of the S: in another, and the MA, and Kzw, مَالِكُ الحَزِينِ:) [ The heron: or a species thereof] in Pers. بوتيمار; (MA;) a certain bird, long in the neck and legs, called in Pers. بوتيمار. (Kzw:) see سَبَيْطَرٌ ― -b5- أَبُو مَالِكٍ Hunger. (MF, art. جبر.) See also أَبٌ.

أَمْلَاكَاتٌ ذ pl. of أَمْلاَكٌ pl. of مِلْكٌ Goods, or chattels, of a bride: see أَغْنَاآءٌ in art. غنى.

مَلَكَةٌ ذ [ A faculty. ] A quality firmly rooted in the mind. (KT.)

مَلَكُوتُ اللّٰهِ ذ God's world of corporeal beings. (TA, art. شهد.) Generally The kingdom of God.

مِلِيك ذ is also syn. with مَمْلُوكٌ; this is meant in the TA where it is said that مُلَكَاآءُ in the saying لَبَا مُلُوكٌ وَلَيْسَ لَبَا مُلَكَاآءُ [ We have kings of bees, but we have not slaves ] is pl. of المَلِيكُ from المَمْلُوكُ: it is also said in art. رغو in the TA, (see 4 in that art.) that مَلِيكَةٌ is syn. with مَمْلُوكَةٌ.

أَمْلَكُ ذ : see شَرْطٌ. and also أَمْلَأُ, and أَرَبٌ. ― -b2- مَا أَمْلِكُ شَدًّا وَلاَ اـِرْخَاآءً: see شَدَّ.

مَمْلَكَةٌ ذ A kingdom, or realm. (S.)

مَمْلُوكٌ ذ A slave; a bondman; syn. عَبْدٌ, (S,) or رَقِيقٌ. (TA.) In the present day, specially, A white male slave. (TA.) See مَرْبُوبٌ.

1 مُلِّىَ أَباَهُ ذ : see لَبِسَ أَبَاهُ in art. لبس. ― -b2- مُلِّيتُ فُلاَبًا I was made to live long with such a one. (Ham, p. 412.) ― -b3- مَلَّاكَ ا@للّٰهُ حَبِيبَكَ May God make thee to have enjoyment of thy friend (مَتَّعَكَ بِهِ) and to live long with him. (S.) See لَبِسَ.

4 أَمْلَيْتُ ذ and أَمْلَلْتُ : see 4 in art. حظ.

5 تَمَلَّى العَيْشَ ذ He lived long. (T.) ― -b2- تَمَلَّى بشَىْءٍ He enjoyed a thing. ― -b3- تَمَلَّيْتُ عُمْرَهُ: see a verse of Ibn-Ahmar cited voce أَبْلَى in art. بلو.
