1 مَشَى ذ He walked, went, or went along; (MA, KL;) [in its primary sense] He went any pace upon his feet, afoot, or on foot; he footed; whether quickly or slowly: (Mgh, Msb:) he removed from place to place at pleasure: (Er-Rághib:) walked; went along, marched; travelled; trod; paced; stepped. See 5. ― -b2- مَشَى also signifies He went on, or continued, in his course of action, &c. (Mughnee voce أَنْ, in explanation of this verb as used in Kur xxxviii. 5.) ― -b3- [مَشَى (assumed tropical:) It (money) passed; was, or became, current. ― -b4- (assumed tropical:) It (a calumny) was, or became, current. See مِئْبَرٌ.] ― -b5- مَشَى بَنْطُهُ [ His belly became moved, or in motion; it discharged itself. ] (S, K, art. طلق; &c.)

3 مَاشَاهُ ذ He walked, or went on foot, with him: he kept pace with him. See an ex. voce الأَحْصَّانِ.

4 أَمْشَىَ الدَّوَاآءُ بَطْنَهُ ذ (A, K, art. حدر,) [ The medicine moved, or purged, his bowels; made his belly to discharge itself: ] and البَطْنَ ↓ مَشَّى. (TA, art. طوس, &c.)

5 تَمَشَّى ذ i. q. مَشَى: (TA:) [or, properly, and accord. to general usage, he walked with slow steps: so I have rendered it voce دَلَفَ, &c.:] he walked heavily, with an effort. (TK voce تَزَحَّفَ.) [One says in the present day, خَرَجْتُ أَتَمَشَى I went forth taking a walk; and تَمَشَّى He walked; walked about. ] ― -b2- [Hence the saying,] تَمَشَّتْ فِيهِ حُمَيَّا الكَأْسِ [ The intoxicating influence of the cup of wine pervaded him, or] crept in him. (TA.) See also تَفَشَّى.

6 تَمَاشَوْا ذ They walked, or went on foot, one towards, or to, another. (TA.)

10 اِسْتَمْشَى بِالدَّوَاآءِ ذ [ He used the medicine as a laxative or purgative. (IbrD.)] (Az in L, art. عقر.) ― -b2- اِسْتَمْشَى بِهِ, referring to a plant, (K in art. صع,) He drank its water (i. e. infusion or the like ) for moving the bowels. (TA ibid.)

مَشَّاآءٌ ذ [ That goes with energy; a good or strong goer; ] strong to walk, or go, or go on foot. (TA voce رِجِيلٌ.)

دَوَاآءُ المَشِىِّ ذ Medicine that moves, or purges, the bowels. (TA in art. طوس.)

مَاشِيَةٌ ذ A she-camel having numerous offspring. (S, Mgh.) ― -b2- Hence, and مَوَاشٍ, as ominous of good, Camels, and cows, and sheep or goats that are for breeding and gain. (Mgh.)

مَمْشَى ذ A passage, or way, by a place; (TA;) [ a walking-place: the gangway of a ship?]

4 أَمْصَعَتْ بِوَلَدِهَا ذ She (a woman) brought forth, or cast forth, her child with a single moan, or hard breathing [or with a single throe; ] like زَكَبَتْ بِهِ. (IAar, L, art. حفد.)

مَصْلٌ ذ [ A kind of اقط]: see كَثٌءٌ and عَبِيثٌ.

مُضْغَةٌ ذ A piece, or bit, of flesh (T, S, K), &c.: (T, K:) or a morsel, or gobbet, of flesh, i. e. a piece of flesh such as a man puts into his mouth: (Khálid Ibn-Jembeh, TA:) or as much as is chewed [ at once ]: (Msb:) and such as the heart, and the tongue, of a man: (TA:) and a fœtus when it has become like a lump of flesh: see Kur. xxii. 5; and see خَلِيقٌ.

مَضْفٌ ذ : see سِيَرَاآءُ.

1 مَضَى ذ and ↓ تَمَضَّى i. q. تَقَدَّمَ [ He advanced, proceeded, &c.]. (M.) ― -b2- مَضَى He, or it, passed; passed away; went; or went away. (S, M, Msb, K.) ― -b3- [ He went on. ] ― -b4- مَضَى لَهُ, said of time: see تَسْهِيمٌ. ― -b5- [مَضَى فِى سَيْرِهِ He advanced, or pressed onward, with a penetrative energy or force, or a sharpness and effectiveness, in his pace. ] ― -b6- مَضَىَ الأَمْرُ, and القَوْلُ, (assumed tropical:) The command, or order, and the saying, was effectual; had effect; was, or became, executed, or performed; syn. نَفَذَ. (Msb, art نفذ.) ― -b7- مَضَى فِى الأَمْرِ (assumed tropical:) He acted [or went on, and did so ] with penetrative energy, or with sharpness, vigour, and effectiveness, in the affair; syn. نَفَذَ. (S, M, K.) See مَاضٍ فِى الأُمُورِ, below; and جَسَرَ. ― -b8- مَضَى عَلَى الأَمْرِ He executed, performed, or accomplished, the affair; as also ↓ أَمْضَاهُ: (S:) and he kept, or applied himself, constantly, or perseveringly, to it. (Msb.) ― -b9- مَضَيْتُ على بَيْعِى and ↓ أَمْضَيْتُهُ I effected, or executed, my sale. (K.) ― -b10- مَضَى It (a sword) cut; (M, K;) penetrated; was sharp.

4 أَمْضَاهُ ذ [(assumed tropical:) He made it (i. e., a contract, sale, oath, &c.) to take effect; executed it; performed it. ] ― -b2- أَمْضَى الأَمْرَ: see مَضَى عَلَى الأَمْرِ. ― -b3- أَمْضَى اليَمِينَ He made the oath to be unconditional, without exception, absolutely or decisively or irreversibly binding. (TK voce جَزَمَ.) See جَزَمَ. ― -b4- أَمْضَى عَهْدَهُ (assumed tropical:) He made his covenant, or contract, or the like, to have, or take, effect; executed or performed it. (L, art. نفذ.) ― -b5- أَمْضَى رَأْيًا He formed, or gave, a decided opinion. ― -b6- أَمْضَى He signed a writing with his name, and so rendered it effective. ― -b7- See 1.

مَاضٍ فِى الأُمُورِ ذ [(assumed tropical:) Penetrating, sharp, energetic, or acting with penetrative energy, or vigorous, and effective, in the performing of affairs: like شَحْشَحٌ, q. v. ― -b2- مَاضٍ is coupled with the epithets مَاهِرٌ and جَادٌّ, &c., and implies penetration and skill, or proficiency in anything;] excelling, or surpassing, in doing, or performing, a thing: (KL from the “ Destoor ”:) [it is also coupled with جَرِىْءٌ and مُتَقَدِّمٌ, in the T, art. جهر. See also نَافِذٌ, its syn.] ― -b3- أَمْرٌ مَاضٍ (assumed tropical:) A command, or an order, that is effectual; that has effect; that is executed, or performed; syn. نَافِذٌ. (L, art. نفذ.) ― -b4- فَرَسٌ مَاضٍ (assumed tropical:) A sharp, spirited, vigorous horse [&c.]; contr. of بَلِيدٌ; (Lth, TA, voce نَدْبٌ;) exerting, or having, a penetrative energy, &c.: see مَضى. ― -b5- كَانَ ذٰلِكَ فِى الزَّمَنِ المَاضِى That was in the time that is past; contr. of المُسْتَقْبَل. (TA.)

اـِمْضَاءٌ ذ A signature.

تِمْضَاآءٌ ذ One who performs affairs with energy and perseverance: an intensive epithet: see صَمَيَانٌ.

5 تَمَطَّقَ ذ He tasted repeatedly, or smacked his lips: see two explanations of this verb voce لَمَظَ.

1 مَطَلَهُ بِدَيْنِهِ ذ , inf. n. مَطْلٌ, and ↓ مَا طَلَهُ, inf. n. مَطَالٌ, He delayed, or deferred, with him, or put him off, in the matter of his debt, by promising time after time to pay him. (Msb.) See دَافَعْتُهُ and سَوَّفَهُ.

مَطُولٌ ذ Much given to delaying, or deferring, with a creditor, or putting him off, in the matter of a debt, by promising time after time to pay him. (Msb.)

مَمْطُولٌ ذ Iron, or a sword, (Az, TA,) beaten into a long shape: (Az, K:) or anything extended, elongated, or lengthened. (S.)

1 مَطَا ذ signifies He drew, or pulled, a thing; as, for instance, a well-rope: for] مَدٌّ and مَطٌّ and مَطْوٌ are all one. (Az and TA in art. مط.) See an ex. from Zuheyr, voce ثِنَايَةٌ.

5 تَمَطَّى ذ He stretched, in a neuter sense: as also تَمَطَّطَ and تَمَدَّدَ.

مُطَأآءُ ذ [for مُطَوَاآءُ?] A stretching, through weariness, &c.? (TA, art. ثأب.)

مَطِيَّةٌ ذ A camel: (Msb:) a camel, or beast, that one rides; a beast that goes with energy and speed: (K:) or a she-camel, or he-camel, that is used for riding; (TA;) [and so a horse, &c.;] a saddle-camel, or camel that one rides. (KL.) ― -b2- See two exs. of a metaphorical meaning voce زَعَمَ.

مُطَوَاآءُ ذ The stretching oneself by reason of fever. (As in TA, voce بُرَحَاءُ.) ― -b2- See ثُوَبَاآءُ.

مَعَ ذ [generally thus in all cases] is a word, or noun, (S, K,) or particle, (K,) denoting concomitance, (S, K,) &c. (K.) It is said to denote the commencement of concomitance, though this is not invariably the case. (MF and TA, voce فِى.) ― -b2- جِئْتُ مَعَ العَصْرِ means عِنْدَ العَصْرِ. (Mughnee.)

8 اِمْتَعَسَ ذ : see أَلْوَثَ.

4 مَا أَمْعَقَهَا ذ : see عمق.

مَعِيقٌ ذ : see عَمِيقٌ.

مُتَمَعَّكُ الفَرَسِ ذ (T, art. ردى) or الحِمَارِ (S, M, art. ردى) The horses' or asses' place of rolling upon the ground. See ردى.

مَعْلٌ ذ [not مَعِلٌ] An agile, acute, clever, man: see شَعْلٌ.

4 أَمْعَنَ ذ He (a horse) went far, (S, Msb, K,) in his run. (S, Msb.) ― -b2- Hence, أَمْعَنَ فِى الطَّلَبِ He went very far in search: (Msb:) or he went far, or to a great or an extraordinary length, therein. (Mgh.) ― -b3- امعن فِى الشَّىْءِ, (Ham p. 817,) or فِى الأَمْرِ, (MA, K, Har p. 176,) He went far, (K, Ham, Har,) or deep, or beyond bounds, (MA,) in, or into, the thing, or affair. (Ham, &c.) ― -b4- أَمْعَنَ لِى بِحَقِّى: see أَذَعْنَ.

المَعْنُ ذ The drawing of water.

مِعًى ذ A narrow, depressed place (See طَأْطَاءٌ.) ― -b2- بَنَاتٌ مِعًى The بَعْر. (T in art. بنى.) ― -b3- المِعَى المُسْتَقِيمُ The rectum.

الأَمْعَاءُ ذ i. q. الأَقْصَابُ; (AO: see voce قِتْبٌ;) the guts; i. e. bowels, or intestines, into which the food passes from the stomach: الحَشَا is the name of all the places of the food; and in the belly are the أَعْفَاج and the أَقْتَاب, to which the food passes after the stomach, and these are the lower امعاء; and all these are called the قُصْب: the حَوَايَا are all the امعاء that wind, or take a coiled, or circular, form. (Zj, in his “ Khalk el-Insán. ”) ― -b2- أَمْعَاآءُ: see a tropical signification ( water-holes ) of this pl. voce حَوِيَّةُ.

مَاقِطٌ ذ A player with the ball. (O in art. صوع.) See صَاعٌ, last sentence.

3 مَاقَلَهُ ذ , inf. n. مُمَاقَلَةٌ He vied with him in diving: see غَامَسَهُ.

6 تَمَاقَلَا ذ : see تَغَاطَسَا.

مُقْلٌ ذ The Theban palm; palma Thebaïca of Pococke; the cucifera of Theophrastes. ― -b2- Also The خُوص, or leaves, of the tree thus called: see نظم ― -b3- See also صَمْغٌ.

مَقْلَهٌ ذ , for جُرْعَةُ مَقْلَةٍ: see 3 in art. صفن.

مُقْلَةٌ ذ The ball, or globe, or bulb (lit. fat, شَحْمَة), of the eye, i. e., the eyeball, which comprises the white and the black. (Khalk el-Insán of Zj; and S, Msb, K.)
