2 كَسَّلَهُ ذ , inf. n. تَكْسِيلٌ, said of satiety, It rendered him heavy, sluggish, lazy, indolent, or torpid. (TA.)

4 أَكْسَلَ عَنْهَا ذ signifies أَوْلَجَ وَلَمْ يُنْزِلْ; [ Inivit sed non emisit; ] (IAar, in TA, art. فهر;) [i. e., أَوْلَجَ ثُمَّ تَرَكَهَا وَلَمْ يُنْزِلْ].

كَسْلَانٌ ذ Heavy, sluggish, lazy, indolent, torpid. (K.)

مَكْسَلَةٌ ذ : see an ex. voce كِطَّةٌ.

1 كَسَوْتُهُ سَيْفًا ذ [ I invested him with a sword ]. (TA in art. غشو.)

5 تكسى ذ : see تقى.

كِسَاآءٌ ذ [ A garment ]. See عَبَاآءٌ, and حِلْسٌ and مُسَيَّحٌ. ― -b2- ذُو كِسَاآءٍ, as opposed to ذُوبُرْدٍ, (assumed tropical:) A poor man. (S, art. عج.) [The كساء was evidently a simple oblong piece of cloth; for الكِسَائِى is said to have been thus named because he wore a كساء while in the state of اـِحْرَام; as is mentioned in the TA, art. كسو; but it seems to have been sometimes sewed in the manner of the عَبَاآء, which see; and see also مُسَيَّحٌ, and بُرْدٌ.] It is [properly] not one of the garments which are cut and sewed [but is a single piece]: (Mgh, art. قطع:) [ a wrapper, or wrapping garment, of a single piece ]. ― -b3- رَكِبَ كِسَاآءَهُ He fell upon the back of his neck. (IAar, in TA, art. ردع.)

أَكْسَى ذ : see بَصَلٌ.

1 كَشَفَهُ ذ and كَشَفَ عَنْهُ He uncovered it; unveiled it; laid it open; displayed it; exposed it to view; discovered it; detected it; revealed it; disclosed it. ― -b2- كَشَفَ عَنْهُ He investigated, explored, or scrutinized, it; searched, examined, or inquired, into it. ― -b3- كَشَفَهُ He removed it; namely, a cover, or covering, or the like: and he uncovered it, laid it open, &c.; as also كَشَفَ عَنْهُ. ― -b4- كَشَفَ شَيْأً عَنْ شَىْءٍ He removed, put off, took off, or stripped off, a thing from over, or from before, a thing which it covered or concealed. (K.) ― -b5- كَشَفَ He removed, cleared away, or dispelled, grief, or sorrow: see فَرَجَ (of which it is an explanation in the Msb and K). ― -b6- See 7.

3 كَاشَفَهُ ذ , inf. n. مُكَاشَفَةٌ, [ He acted openly with him, or towards him; ] syn. of the inf. n. مُجَاهَرَةٌ. (Har, p. 470.) He, or it, appeared to him; as also كَاشَفَ عَلَيْهِ; syn. ظهر له. (TA.) ― -b2- كُوشِفَ بِمَا أَخْفَيْتُ He became acquainted with, knew, or got knowledge of, what I concealed: syn. اـِطَّلَعَ عَلَيْهِ. (Har. p. 686.) ― -b3- مُكَاشَفَةٌ The showing open enmity, or hostility, with any one. (KL.) [I. e. كَاشَفَهُ alone, or] كاشفه بِالعَدَاوَةِ signifies He showed open enmity, or hostility, with him; (S, MA, K;) and so كاشفه العَدَاوَةَ. (MA.) See صَفْحَةٌ. ― -b4- [Also Discovery, or revelation: pl. مُكَاشَفَاتٌ: see Hájjee Khaleefeh, s. v.] ― -b5- كَاشَفَهُ الحَرْبَ [ He made war with him openly ]. (Msb, art. نبذ.)

5 تَكَشَّفَ ذ He uncovered, or exposed, himself in sitting. (TA, voce أَعْفَتُ.)

6 تَكَاشَفُوا ذ They revealed their faults, or secrets, one to another: see تَدَافَنُوا.

7 اِنْكَشَفَ عَنْهُ ذ [ He, or it, withdrew, or became withdrawn, or removed or became removed, from him, or it, or from over it ] ― -b2- اِنْكَشَفَتْ said of a she-camel: see مُفَنَّنٌ. ― -b3- اِنْكَشَفُوا [ They were routed, defeated, or put to flight; like ↓ كَشِفُوا: the former is quasi-pass. of كَشَفَ, “ he routed, ” &c.]. (K, voce جال in art. جول.) See also تِفْرِجَةٌ, in art. فرج.

كَشَّافٌ ذ : see Ham, p. 49, 1. 2.

مَكْشُوفٌ ذ Uncovered, &c.; overt.

مُكَاشِفٌ ذ [ A discoverer, or revealer: thus I have rendered it voce عَيْنٌ.]

كَشْكٌ ذ Barley-water: (K:) or pounded wheat or barley: a Persian word, arabicized. (Mgh.) Hence, كَشْكِيَّةٌ A kind of broth. (Mgh.)

1 كَظَمَ غَيْظَهُ ذ He repressed, or restrained, his wrath, or rage. (K.) ― -b2- كَظَمَ, aor. كَظِمَ , inf. n. كَظْمٌ, He restrained himself. (TA.) ― -b3- مَا يَكْظِمُ عَلَى جِرَّةٍ; and لَا يَكْظِمٌ عَلَى جِرَّتِهِ: see جِرَّةٌ. ― -b4- كَظَمَ عَلَى غَيْظِهِ i. q. كَظَمَ غَيْظَهُ. (TA.)

كَظَائِمُ ذ [pl. of كِظَامَةٌ] Subterranean conduits for water. (TA in art. قنو.)

كُعْبُرَةٌ ذ and ↓ كُعْبُورَةٌ Anything compact (K, TA) and round: (TA:) and the latter, i. q. عُقْدَةٌ [meaning a knot, or a knob ]: (TA:) [pl. of the latter كَعَابِيرُ: see خِرْوٌ: see also أَخْرَمُ]. ― -b2- Also The seed-vessel [i. e. siliqua, or pod, ] of the radish and some other plants. (IAar, TA voce اـِسْحَارٌّ.)

كُعْبُوْرَةٌ ذ : see كُعْبُرَةٌ.

كَعْكٌ ذ A well-known bread; (K;) biscuit; (MA;) or [ a kind of ] dry bread: (MA, TA:) now applied to a sort of bread made in the form of a ring, hollow, [ and generally containing some دبس or the like, ] the best of which is brought from Syria, and given as a present. (TA.)

كُعَلٌ ذ : see ثُعَلٌ.

كِعَامٌ ذ A muzzle for a camel. (PS.)

كِعَامَةٌ ذ The iron thing that embraces, or clasps, (تَلْتَقِمُ,) the muzzle of the horse. (IDrd in his book on the Saddle and Bridle, p. 8.)

1 كَفَّ التَّوْبَ ذ He sewed the edge, or border, of the garment, or piece of cloth, the second time, (S, K,) after the [ slight ] sewing termed المَلُّ, (S,) or الشَّلُّ. (K.) ― -b2- [ He felled (a seam or garment).] ― -b3- كَفَّ عَنْهُ, aor. كَفُ3َ , He refrained, or forbore, from it, as forbidden; abstained, or desisted, from it; left, relinquished, or forsook it: (Msb:) [as also ↓ انكفّ]. ― -b4- كَفَّ عَنْهُ He refrained, desisted, forbore, abstained, or held, from it. (K, &c.) ― -b5- كَفَّهُ عَنْهُ He made him to refrain, forbear, or abstain, from it; averted him, turned him away or back, from it; (K;) prevented, hindered, held, withheld, or restrained, him from it. (Mgh, Msb, TA.) ― -b6- [كَفَّ بَيْنَهُمَا He interposed as a restrainer between them two: a phrase of frequent occurrence]. ― -b7- كَفَّ مِنَ الشَّعَرِ (M, K, art. قصر) He shortened the hair. (M, ibid.)

3 كَافُّوا عَدُوَّهُمْ ذ i. q. حَاجَزُوهُمْ, which see. ― -b2- مُكَافَّةٌ signifies i. q. مُحَاجَزَةٌ, because it is a preventing, or an abstaining, from fighting. (Mgh.)

كَفٌّ ذ [generally The hand: sometimes, app., the palm only:] accord. to Az, the palm with the fingers. (Msb.) ― -b2- [Hence, A cake of the length and thickness of the hand: thus in the present day. See عُجَّالٌ.] ― -b3- كَفٌّ A handful; what one takes with the hand, or grasps; syn. قُبْضَةٌ. (S, art. قبض.) ― -b4- [ضَرَبَهُ كَفًّا He struck him a slap with the hand. ] ― -b5- [كَفٌّ often signifies The paw of a beast.] ― -b6- الكَفُّ الجَذْمَاآءُ The star α of Cetus. ― -b7- الكَفُّ الخَضِيبُ The β of Cassiopeia.

كَفَّةٌ ذ : see كِفَّةٌ.

كُفَّةٌ ذ The selvage, i. e. border, or side, of a garment or piece of cloth, (S, Msb,) that has no هُدْب [or end of unwoven threads ]: (S, voce طُرَّةٌ:) or what surrounds the skirt of a shirt: or whatever is oblong; as the حَاشِيَة of a garment or piece of cloth, and of sand: and the edge of a thing. (K.)

كِفَّةٌ ذ The bezel, or collet, i. e. the part in which the stone is set, of a signet-ring. (TA in art. ركب.) See كُرْسِىٌّ. ― -b2- See also طَرْقٌ. ― -b3- كِفَّةٌ A scale of a balance: (MA:) vulg. ↓ كَفَّةٌ. (K.)

كَفَافٌ ذ The like of a thing. (S, K.) ― -b2- Food, or sustenance, that renders one independent of others: (S, K:) or sufficient for one's want, not exceeding nor falling short. (Msb.)

كِفَافٌ ذ The circuit, rim, or surrounding edge, of a thing. (S, K.)

كِفَافَةٌ ذ [app. a subst., not an inf. n.,] The act, or art, of sewing in the manner termed كَفٌّ; (TA;) contr. of شِلَاشَةٌ. (TA in art. شل.)

نَاقَةٌ كَافَّةٌ ذ An old and weak she-camel. (AO, TA in art. سدم.) ― -b2- [مَا كَافَّةٌ The restrictive مَا, which is annexed to أَنَّ اـِنَّ, &c.: so called because it restrains the particle to which it is adjoined from exercising any government.] ― -b3- كَافَّةً Wholly. (Bd and Jel in ii. 204.)

حَرْفُ مُكَافَأَةٍ ذ A particle denoting compensation, or the complement of a condition; like حَرْفُ جَزَاآءٍ.

1 كَفَلَ بَالمَالِ ذ He was, or became, responsible, answerable, accountable, amenable, surety, or guarantee, for the property (Msb) owed by another person: (IbrD:) [it may be rendered he guaranteed the property. See مَكْفُولٌ]. ― -b2- كَفَلَ بَالنَّفْسِ He was, or became, responsible, answerable, amenable, or surety, for another person, (Msb,) i. e., for the latter's appearance, or presence, to answer a suit. (IbrD.)

كَفَلٌ ذ The عَجُز [or hinder part, posteriors, buttocks, or rump ]: (Msb, K:) or the رِدْف [or hindermost part ] thereof: or the [ part called ] قَطَن. (K.)

كَفِيلٌ ذ One who is responsible, answerable, amenable, or a sponsor or surety. (S, K, &c.)

كَفَالَةٌ ذ Responsibility; answerableness; amenability; or suretiship; (S, Mgh, Msb, K;) the conjoining of one responsibility (ذِمَّة) to another, [i. e., the conjoining one's own responsibility to that of another person, ] with respect to the right of suit, [ so that one person becomes liable to be sued for that which another owes ]; (Mgh;) i. q. ضَمَانٌ. (S, &c.)

مِكْفَالٌ ذ A woman large in the كَفَل [or hinder part, or posteriors ]. (TA in art. ثقل.)

مَكْفُولٌ ذ app. signifies Guaranteed, or pledged: for, accord. to IKtt, as is said in the Msb, you say كَفَلْتُ المَالَ as well as كَفَلْتُ بِالمَالِ; meaning I took upon myself the property; became responsible, or answerable, for it; [or I guaranteed it: ] or مَكْفُولٌ is better rendered ensured by an acknowledgment of responsibility for it: see an ex. voce مَرْهُونٌ.

5 تَكَفَّنُوا بأَنْطَاعٍ ذ [ They wrapped themselves with انطاع for grave-clothing ]. (TA, art. حنط.)

4 اِكْفَهَرَ ذ , said of clouds: see a verse cited عَزْلَاآءُ.

1 كَفَى ذ He, or it, sufficed, or contented: hence كَفَانِى فُلَانٌ الأَمْرَ Such a one sufficed me, or contented me, in respect of the affair; i. e., by taking upon himself to perform it or accomplish it if good, or to prevent it or avert it if evil: and كَفَانِى شَهِيدًا He sufficed me as, or for, a witness; or he suffices me as, or for, such: and sometimes بِ is redundantly prefixed to its agent, and sometimes to its objective complement; as in exs. cited in art. ب. See Ham, p. 152. كَفَى [ It sufficed, or satisfied, or contented, ] it stood instead of another thing, or other things; (Msb;) [as also كَفَى عَنْ غَيْرِهِ.] ― -b2- كَفَى بِنَا for كَفَانَا &c. See W, pp. 5 and 6 ― -b3- كَفَى, aor. يَكْفِى, inf. n. كِفَايَةٌ, also signifies دَفَعَ and مَنَعَ followed by مِنْ. (Har, p. 43, q. v.) [You say, كَفَاهُ الشَّرَّ He repelled from him evil; and hence, he defended him therefrom; and he freed him therefrom: said of God, and of a man, &c.]

8 اِكْتَفَى بِالشَّىْءِ ذ He was, or became, sufficed by the thing, so as to need nothing more; or content with it. (Msb.)

كِفَايَةٌ ذ A sufficiency; enough; a thing that suffices, or contents, and enables one to obtain what one seeks. (TA, art. بلغ.) ― -b2- قَامَ بِكِفَايَتِهِ He undertook his maintenance; he maintained him; syn. مَانَهُ. (S, K, art. مون.)
