كُمَاخٌ ذ The magnifying one's self; pride. (Abu-l-'Abbás, K.)

كَامَخٌ ذ , (S, Mgh, Msb, K,) sometimes written and pronounced كَامِخٌ, (Msb, and written in both these ways in a copy of the S) but the former is better known, and more common, (TA,) an arabicized word, (S, Mgh, Msb,) from the Persian كَامَهْ, (Mgh, Shifá el-Ghaleel,) A kind of seasoning, or condiment, eaten with bread to render it pleasant, or savoury; (S, Msb, K;) [ a thing used to give relish to food, or to quicken the appetite; ] accord. to some, prepared with vinegar, and used to quicken the appetite; (TA;) also called مُرِّىٌّ: (Msb:) or it is a bad sort of مُرِّىّ: (Mgh, Msb:) pl. كَوَامِخُ, (Msb,) or كَوَامِيخُ. (Mgh.)

مَلِكٌ كَيْمَخٌ ذ A king having his head elevated, from pride. (L.)

1 كَمِدَ ذ , aor. كَمَدَ , inf. n. كَمَدٌ, It (a thing) became changed in colour, (L, * Msb, K, *) and lost its clearness, (L, K,) the traces thereof remaining. (L.) ― -b2- كَمِدَ لَوْنُهُ His, or its, colour became changed. (L.) ― -b3- كَمِدَ الثَّوْبُ The garment became worn-out, (A, K,) and smooth, (K,) so that its colour changed. (A.) ― -b4- كَمَدَ, (aor. كَمُدَ , K, inf. n. كَمْدٌ and كُمُودٌ, TA,) He (a fuller, L) beat a garment, or piece of cloth. (L, K.) ― -b5- كَمِدَ, aor. كَمَدَ , inf. n. كَمَدٌ, (tropical:) He (a man) was affected with concealed grief or sorrow: (S, Msb:) or, with grief or sorrow which he could not dispel: (L:) or, with intense grief or sorrow: (K:) or, with most intense grief or sorrow: (L:) and, with disease of the heart from intense grief or sorrow. (K.)

2 كمّدهُ ذ , inf. n. تَكْمِيدٌ, He heated it (a limb) with a كِمَادَة; (K;) heated it with rags and the like; (S, L;) applied to it a كِمَادَة. (A.) كِمَادٌ [which see below] signifies the same as تَكْمِيدٌ. (S, L.) ― -b2- He heated for him a garment or piece of cloth or some other thing, and applied it to a place in which he suffered pain in one of his limbs, so as to give him ease. You also say ↓ أَكْمَدَهُ; and مَكْمُودٌ is used as the pass. part. n. of this verb, anomalously. (L.)

4 اكمدهُ ذ He (a fuller, S, A, L, and a washer, L) failed of cleaning it, (S, A, L,) and of making it white, (A,) namely, a garment. or piece of cloth. (S, &c.) ― -b2- اكمدهُ He, or it, affected him with intense grief or sorrow: and, with disease of the heart from intense grief or sorrow: (K:) it (grief) rendered him sorrowful. (A.) ― -b3- See 2.

كَمَدٌ ذ (L, K) and ↓ كَمْدٌ (K) and ↓ كُمْدَةٌ, (S, L, Msb, K,) the last a simple subst., (Msb,) Change of colour, (S, L, Msb, K,) and loss of its clearness, (L, K,) the traces thereof remaining. (L.) ― -b2- كَمَدٌ Concealed grief or sorrow: (S, A, L, Msb:) or grief or sorrow which one cannot dispel: (L:) or intense grief; as also ↓ كَمْدٌ and ↓ كُمْدَةٌ: (K:) or most intense grief or sorrow: (ISd, L:) and disease of the heart from intense grief or sorrow. (K.)

كَمِدٌ ذ A thing changed in colour; (Msb;) see 1; and اللَّوْنِ ↓ أَكْمَدُ [the same]: (A:) and الوَجْهِ ↓ كَامِدُ [ changed in countenance ]. (A.) ― -b2- Affected with concealed grief or sorrow; as also ↓ كَمِيدٌ: (S, Msb:) or, both words, with grief or sorrow which cannot be dispelled: (L:) or, with intense grief or sorrow; as also ↓ كَامدٌ and ↓ مَكْمُودٌ [which see below]: (K:) or, with most intense grief or sorrow: (L:) and, with disease of the heart from intense grief or sorrow; as also ↓ كَامِدٌ and ↓ مَكْمُودٌ. (K.) ― -b3- Frowning, or contracting his face; looking sternly, austerely, or morosely; as also ↓ كَامِدٌ. (L.)

كُمْدَةٌ ذ : see كَمَدٌ.

كِمَادٌ ذ (a subst. K) The act of beating a garment, or a piece of cloth, by a fuller. (L, K. *) ― -b2- كِمَادٌ (K) and كِمَادَةٌ (A, L, K) A greasy, (A,) or dirty, (K,) or greasy and dirty, (L,) piece of rag, which is heated, and put upon a pained part, as a means of cure, (A, L, K,) for pain (A, K) of the belly, (K,) or flatulence. (A, K.) ― -b3- كِمَادٌ i. q. تَكْمِيدٌ; see 2; (S, L;) [The application of a كِمَادَة;] the taking a piece of rag, and heating it with fire, and putting it upon the place of a swelling. (Sh, L.) It is said in a trad., الكِمَادُ أَحَبُّ اـِلَىَّ مِنَ الكَىِّ [ The application of a كِمَادَة is more pleasing to me than cauterization ]. (S, L.)

كَمِيدٌ ذ and كَامِدٌ: see كَمِدٌ.

مَكْمُودٌ ذ , which is extr., being from أَكْمَدَهُ: (TA:) see 4, and كَمِدٌ.

1 كَمَرَ ذ He (a circumciser) missed the place of circumcision [ and hurt, or wounded, the glans of the penis ]. (IKtt.)

كَمَرَةٌ ذ The head [or glans ] of the penis; (K;) or i. q. حَشَفَةٌ: (Msb:) pl. كَمَرٌ: (S, Msb, K:) [or rather, the latter is a coll. gen. n.; and the former, the n. un.] It is said in a proverb, الكَمَرُ أَشْبَاهُ الكَمَرِ; alluding to the likeness of one thing to another. (K.) ― -b2- Hence, by synecdoche, (tropical:) The penis, altogether. (Msb.)

مَكْمُورٌ ذ A man (S) having the head [or glans ] of his penis, (Msb, K,) or the extremity of the head of his penis, (S,) hurt, or wounded, by the circumciser. (S, Msb, K.)

كَيْمُوسٌ ذ [ Chyme; from the Greek χυμός ;] a term applied by the physicians to the food when it is digested in the stomach before it departs thence and becomes blood; also called كَيْلُوسٌ: (L, TA:) [but the latter word more properly signifies “ chyle, ” and in this sense is used by modern physicians:] a certain mixture or humour (خِلْطٌ): a Syriac word: (K:) [or Greek, as mentioned above:] Az says, that كَيْمُوسَاتٌ, as used by the physicians, signifies the four humours; and is not Arabic, but ancient Greek. (TA.)

كَيْمُوسِيَّةٌ ذ Want, or requirement, of food, or nourishment. Occurring in a trad. of Kuss, where it is said to be not an attribute of God. (ISd, TA.)

1 كَمُشَتْ ذ , aor. كَمُشَ , inf. n. كَمَاشَةٌ, She (a woman) was, or became, small in the breast. (TA.) ― -b2- كَمُشَتِ الخُصْيَةُ, inf. n. كُمُوشَةٌ, [ The testicle, or the scrotum, ] was, or became, short, and cleaving to the inner skin. (TA.) See also 5. -A2- كَمُشَ, inf. n. كَمَاشَةٌ, He (a man) was, or became, quick; (K;) as also ↓ تكمّش (S, K, TA) and ↓ انكمش; (K, TA;) and ↓ اكمش, in relation to pace and to work: (IKtt:) or quick and sharp or vigorous or effective: (S:) or determined or resolute, and sharp or vigorous or effective, (A, TA,) and quick, in his affairs: (TA:) or courageous. (Sb, ISd.) You say, فِى سَعْيِهِ ↓ انكمش and ↓ تكمّش [ He was quick, &c., in his walking, or running, or working ]. (A.) And الفَرَسُ فِى سَيْرِهِ ↓ انكمش [ The horse was quick, &c., in his going, or pace. ] (A.) And ↓ انكمش فِى أَمْرِهِ He hastened, or was sharp or vigorous or effective, in his affair. (As.) And ↓ انكمش فِى الحَاجَةِ He was quick and vigorous in executing the needful affair; syn. اجْتَمَعَ فِيهَا. (TA.) ― -b2- And كَمُشَ He determined, resolved, or decided, upon an affair; as also كَمِشَ, [aor. كَمَشَ ] inf. n. كَمَشٌ. (TA.)

2 كمّش ذَيْلَهُ ذ , (A, TA,) inf. n. تَكْمِيشٌ, (TA,) He contracted, or tucked up, his skirt. (A, TA.) -A2- كمّشهُ, (inf. n. as above, S, K,) He hastened him; made him quick; (S, A, K;) [and so app. ↓ اكمشهُ: see شَمَّرَ.] ― -b2- And كمّش, (K,) or كمّش الاـِبِلَ, inf. n. as above, (TA,) He (a man singing to camels to urge or excite them) was vigorous in driving [ so that he made the camels quick ]. (K, TA.)

4 اكمش ذ : see 1. -A2- اكمشهُ: see 2. -A3- اكمش بِالنَّاقَةِ He bound all the teats of the camel with the صِرَار, q. v. (S, K.)

5 تكمّش ذ It (skin) contracted, or shrank, (A, K,) and became drawn together; (K;) and so ↓ انكمش, said of a garment, or piece of cloth, after washing; (K, art. قلص;) and of an udder. (TA.) See also 1. -A2- See again 1, in two places.

كَمْشٌ ذ Short and small; applied to an udder: and [the fem.] with ة, applied to a testicle, or a scrotum, (خُصْيَة) short, and cleaving to the inner skin. (TA.) ― -b2- Applied to a horse, Small in the veretrum; as also ↓ كَمِيشٌ: (S, K:) or short therein: [contr. of سَابِغٌ:] pl. [of mult.] كِمَاشٌ and [of pauc.) أَكْمَاشٌ: (A 'Obeyd:) or, applied to a beast of carriage, short and small therein: ('Eyn:) but when applied to a female, having a small udder; as also ↓ كَمِيشٌ, (K,) or كَمِيشَةٌ, so applied, ('Eyn,) and كَمْشَةٌ, applied to a she-camel, (Ks, S,) and ↓ كَمُوشٌ, thus applied: (TA:) or كَمِيشَةٌ [so in the K accord. to the TA, but in some copies of the K ↓ كَمِشَةٌ,] and كَمُوشٌ have this signification when applied to a ewe or she-goat: (K:) or the former of these two epithets, (As,) or each of them, (K,) thus applied, signifies short in the teat, (As, K,) so as to be milked only with the ends of three fingers, or with the thumb and forefinger: (As:) and كَمْشَةٌ, applied to a woman, having a small breast. (TA.) -A2- Also, and ↓ كَمِيشٌ, applied to a man, (S, A, K,) Quick: (A, K:) or quick and sharp or vigorous or effective: (S:) or determined or resolute, and sharp or vigorous or effective, (A, TA,) and quick in his affairs: (TA:) and ↓ كَمِشٌ [app. applied to a man, being the part. n. of كَمِشَ, q. v.] is syn. with كَمْشٌ: (TA:) or ↓ كَمِيشٌ signifies courageous. كَمِشٌ ذ : fem. with ة: see above, in two places.

كَمُوشٌ ذ : see above, in three places.

كَمِيشٌ ذ : fem. with ة: see above, passim. ― -b2- رَجُلٌ كَمِيشُ الاـِزَارِ [lit.] A man having his ازار [or waist-wrapper ] tucked up; (K, TA;) [meaning,] vigorous, laborious, or sedulous, in his affair. (TA.)

كَنَبٌ ذ Callousness, or hardness, of the hand, resulting from work: (S:) or coarseness, or roughness, of the foot, and of the hoof, and of the camel's foot, and of the hand: or of the hand only, resulting from work. (K.) -A2- See كَنِبٌ.

كَنِبٌ ذ , of the same measure as كَتِفٌ, (K,) or ↓ كَنَبٌ, (as in the copies of the S in my hands) A certain plant: (S, K:) or a certain tree: (Lth:) AHn says, It resembles the قَتَاد growing in our country, where, sometimes, sandals or shoes are sewed with its bark, and thereof are twisted ropes which endure moisture, day-dew, or rain: and in one place he says, I asked one of the Arabs of the desert respecting the كنب, and he shewed me a scattered, small, thorny plant, with white twigs or branches, abounding with thorns, having, at the extremities, بَرَاعِيم [or calyxes, or flowers, or flower-buds, ] from each of which grew forth three thorns. (TA.)

كِنَابٌ ذ i. q. شِمْرَاخٌ [i. e. the fruit-stalk of the raceme of a palm tree ]. (S, K.)

كَنِيبٌ ذ What is dry, of trees: or having its thorns broken. (K.)

كُنْتُبٌ ذ and كُنَاتِبٌ Short: (K:) or thick, or coarse, and short: (TA:) or hard and strong: (see كُنْتثُبٌ:) but the ث is augmentative, (TA,) [and therefore the proper art. is كنب].

كَانِبٌ ذ Full to satiety; glutted with food. (K.)

مُكْنَبٌ ذ and مِكْنَبٌ: see next paragraph.

مُكْنِبٌ ذ and ↓ مِكْنَبٌ A coarse, or rough, hoof; (IAar, K;) and the same words, and ↓ مُكْنَبٌ, the same as applied to a camel's foot. (IAar)

مُكْنَئِبٌّ ذ Thick, or coarse, and strong, and short. (K)

Q. 2 تَكَنْبَتَ ذ He (a man) became contracted [ in disposition; or niggardly, or stingy ]. (L, as from IDrd.) But see art. كنبث. (TA.)

كُنْبُبٌ ذ , (or this should be كُنْثُبٌ, TA) A hard, strong, robust, man. (L.) But see كُنْبُثٌ. (TA.) ― -b2- Also, and كُنَابِتٌ, A man contracted [ in disposition ]; niggardly, or stingy. (L.) But see art. كنبث. (TA.)

Q. 1 كَنْبَثَ ذ and ↓ تَكَنْبَثَ He became hard and strong: (L:) he became contracted; syn. تَقَبَّضَ: (K:) [app. in disposition; see كُنْبُثٌ: or in make; the second verb being also expl. in the L, with reference to a man, by the words تَدَاخَلَ بَعْضُهُ فِى بَعْضٍ].

1 كَنَتَ فِى خَلْقِهِ ذ , (aor. كَنُتَ , inf. n. كَنْتٌ, TK,) He (a man) was strong in his make. (IAar, TS, K.) -A2- كَنِتَ, aor. كَنَتَ , It (a skin, TA) became foul with the grease of milk [ and so retained the water, or milk, well ]; syn. حَشِنَ: (TS, and SM's copy of the K: in the CK and a MS. copy of the K, خَشُنَ: in another copy of the K, حَسُنَ.)

8 اكتنت ذ He was lowly; humble; submissive. (K.) [See اِقْتَنَتَ.] ― -b2- He was content, or well pleased; acquiesced. (K.)

سِقَاءٌ كَنِيتٌ ذ [as also قَنِيتٌ] A skin that retains [ the water, or milk, ] well. (K.)
