يُقَرِّبُكُمْ إِلَيْهِ، وَيُثِيبُكُمْ - عِنْدَ الْقُدُومِ - عَلَيْهِ.

(from previous page) ⟵ If you know that, then know the matters and look at what is most worthy of preference. When He commanded them to worship Allah and fear Him, He forbade them from worshipping idols, and explained to them their deficiency and their unworthiness of worship, saying: "You only worship idols besides Allah and create falsehood." You carve them and create them with your own hands, and you create for them the names of gods and invent lies by commanding their worship and adhering to that. "Indeed, those whom you invoke besides Allah" are deficient, and there is nothing in them that calls for their worship. "They do not possess for you any provision." It is as if it was said: It has become clear to us that these idols are created, deficient, possessing neither benefit nor harm, nor death nor life nor resurrection, and that one whose description is such does not deserve even the slightest atom's weight of worship and deification. Hearts must seek a worshipped one whom they deify and ask for their needs. So He said - urging them towards the one who deserves worship - "So seek provision from Allah," for He is the one who facilitates it, the Appointer, the Responder to the prayer of whoever calls upon Him in matters of their religion and their worldly life. "And worship Him" alone, without any partner, because He is the Perfect, the Benefactor, the Harm-inflictor, the One unique in planning. "And be grateful to Him" alone, because all the blessings that have reached and will reach creation are from Him, and all the calamities that have been averted and will be averted from them, He is the Averter of them. "To Him you will be returned." He will reward you for what you have done, and inform you of what you have concealed and what you have declared. So beware of coming before Him while you are upon your polytheism, and desire what will bring you closer to Him and reward you when you come before Him.

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا كَيْفَ يُبْدِئُ اللَّهُ الْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ {إِنَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَى اللَّهِ يَسِيرٌ} كَمَا قَالَ تَعَالَى: {وَهُوَ الَّذِي يَبْدَأُ الْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُ وَهُوَ أَهْوَنُ عَلَيْهِ}

Do they not see how Allah originates creation and then repeats it on the Day of Resurrection? {Indeed, that is easy for Allah}, as He, the Exalted, said: {And He is the One who originates creation, then repeats it, and that is easier for Him}.

قُلْ لَهُمْ، إِنْ حَصَلَ مَعَهُمْ رَيْبٌ وَشَكٌّ فِي الِابْتِدَاءِ: {سِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ} بِأَبْدَانِكُمْ وَقُلُوبِكُمْ {فَانْظُرُوا كَيْفَ بَدَأَ الْخَلْقَ} فَإِنَّكُمْ سَتَجِدُونَ أُمَمًا مِنَ الْآدَمِيِّينَ وَالْحَيَوَانَاتِ، لَا تَزَالُ تُوجَدُ شَيْئًا فَشَيْئًا وَتَجِدُونَ النَّبَاتَ وَالْأَشْجَارَ، كَيْفَ تَحْدُثُ وَقْتًا بَعْدَ وَقْتٍ وَتَجِدُونَ السَّحَابَ وَالرِّيَاحَ وَنَحْوَهَا مُسْتَمِرَّةً فِي تَجَدُّدِهَا بَلِ الْخَلْقُ دَائِمًا فِي بَدْءٍ وَإِعَادَةٍ، فَانْظُرْ إِلَيْهِمْ وَقْتَ مَوْتَتِهِمُ الصُّغْرَى النَّوْمِ وَقَدْ هَجَمَ عَلَيْهِمُ اللَّيْلُ بِظَلَامِهِ فَسَكَنَتْ مِنْهُمُ الْحَرَكَاتُ وَانْقَطَعَتْ مِنْهُمُ الْأَصْوَاتُ، وَصَارُوا فِي فُرُشِهِمْ وَمَأْوَاهُمْ كَالْمَيِّتِينَ، ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَزَالُوا عَلَى ذَلِكَ طُولَ لَيْلِهِمْ، حَتَّى انْفَلَقَ الْإِصْبَاحُ فَانْتَبَهُوا مِنْ رَقْدَتِهِمْ وَبُعِثُوا مِنْ مَوْتَتِهِمْ قَائِلِينَ: "الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ"

Tell them, if they have doubts about the beginning: {Travel through the earth} with your bodies and hearts {and observe how He originated creation}. You will find nations of humans and animals continuously coming into existence little by little; you will find plants and trees coming into being time after time; and you will find clouds, winds, and the like, constantly renewing themselves. Creation is always in a state of inception and repetition. Look at them at the time of their minor death—sleep—when night descends with its darkness, movements cease, voices fall silent, and they lie in their beds like the dead. They remain in that state throughout the night until dawn breaks, when they wake from their slumber and are resurrected from their death, saying: "Praise be to Allah, who gave us life after He caused us to die, and to Him is the resurrection."
