Lesson Four.

مَدْخَلٌ إِلَى النَّصِّ: حُبُّ الْوَطَنِ تَرْوِيهِ أَحَاسِيسُنَا وَعَوَاطِفُنَا وَدِمَشْقُ بِتَارِيخِهَا وَحَضَارَتِهَا مَهْوَى أَفْئِدَةِ شُعَرَائِنَا أَيْنَمَا كَانُوا، يَشُدُّهُمُ الشَّوْقُ وَالْحَنِينُ إِلَيْهَا.

Introduction to the text: Love for one's homeland is expressed through our feelings and emotions. With its history and civilization, Damascus remains the heart's destination for our poets wherever they may be, pulled toward it by longing and nostalgia.

شَاعِرٌ سُورِيٌّ مَهْجَرِيٌّ وُلِدَ فِي رِيفِ دِمَشْقَ (يَبْرُودَ) عَامَ (١٩١٦م) وَتُوُفِّيَ عَامَ (١٩٩٤م)، مِنْ دَوَاوِينِهِ: «نُورٌ وَنَارٌ – أَلْوَانٌ وَأَلْحَانٌ – شَظَايَا».

A Syrian expatriate poet born in the Damascus countryside (Yabroud) in 1916, who died in 1994. His poetry collections include: 'Light and Fire', 'Colors and Melodies', and 'Fragments'.
