بَابُ نَهْيِ الرَّجُلِ وَالْمَرْأَةِ عَنْ خِضَابِ شَعَرِهِمَا بِسَوَادٍ.

Chapter: Prohibition against men and women dyeing their hair black.

عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: أُتِيَ بِأَبِي قُحَافَةَ وَالِدِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَوْمَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ وَرَأْسُهُ وَلِحْيَتُهُ كَالثَّغَامَةِ بَيَاضًا.

Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that Abu Quhafa, the father of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, was brought before the Prophet on the day Mecca was conquered. His head and beard were as white as the thaghamah plant.

فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: غَيِّرُوا هَذَا وَاجْتَنِبُوا السَّوَادَ.

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, 'Change this, but avoid using black.'
