وَهَذَا مِنْهَا، حَدِيثُ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ فُقَرَاءَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ جَاؤُوا يَشْتَكُونَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ يَقُولُونَ: إِنَّ أَهْلَ الْأَمْوَالِ سَبَقُونَا، إِنَّهُمْ يُصَلُّونَ كَمَا نُصَلِّي، وَيَصُومُونَ كَمَا نَصُومُ، وَلَهُمْ فَضْلٌ مِنَ الْأَمْوَالِ، يَعْنِي: زِيَادَةً يَتَصَدَّقُونَ بِهَا، وَيَحُجُّونَ وَيَعْتَمِرُونَ، وَيُجَاهِدُونَ، فَدَلَّهُمُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى أَمْرٍ، قَالَ: «أَفَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِأَمْرٍ تُدْرِكُونَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ، وَتَسْبِقُونَ مَنْ جَاءَ بَعْدَكُمْ»، قَالُوا: بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: «تُسَبِّحُونَ، وَتَحْمَدُونَ، وَتُكَبِّرُونَ، خَلْفَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ ثَلَاثًا وَثَلَاثِينَ»، يَعْنِي تَقُولُونَ: «سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، ثَلَاثًا وَثَلَاثِينَ مَرَّةً»، فَهَذِهِ تِسْعٌ وَتِسْعُونَ، ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ فَعَلُوا ذَلِكَ، وَلَكِنْ سَمِعَ الْأَغْنِيَاءُ بِهَذَا، فَفَعَلُوا مِثْلَهُ، فَتَسَاوَوْا مَعَهُمْ فِي هَذَا الذِّكْرِ، فَرَجَعَ الْفُقَرَاءُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، سَمِعَ إِخْوَانُنَا أَهْلُ الْأَمْوَالِ بِمَا صَنَعْنَا، فَصَنَعُوا مِثْلَهُ، وَكَأَنَّهُمْ يُرِيدُونَ شَيْئًا آخَرَ يَخْتَصُّونَ بِهِ، فَقَالَ: «ذَلِكَ فَضْلُ اللَّهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ».

(from previous page) ⟵ And look at: The commentary on Sahih Muslim by our honorable Sheikh, the commentator, may Allah Almighty have mercy on him. And this is one of them, the hadith of Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the poor among the Muhajireen came complaining to the Prophet, saying: "Indeed, the wealthy people have surpassed us. They pray as we pray, and they fast as we fast, and they have an abundance of wealth" – meaning, an excess with which they give charity, and they perform Hajj and Umrah, and they strive in jihad. So the Prophet, may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him, guided them to a matter. He said: "Shall I not inform you of a matter by which you will catch up with those who were before you, and surpass those who come after you?" They said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "You should glorify Allah, praise Allah, and magnify Allah thirty-three times after every prayer" – meaning, you say: "Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah), Al-hamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), and Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest) thirty-three times." So these are ninety-nine. Then they did that, but the rich heard about this and did the same, so they became equal with them in this remembrance. So the poor returned to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, our brothers, the wealthy people, heard about what we did, so they did the same." And it was as if they wanted something else that would be exclusive to them. So he said: "That is the bounty of Allah, which He gives to whom He wills."

فَفِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ مِنَ الْفَوَائِدِ: أَوَّلًا: حِرْصُ الصَّحَابَةِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ عَلَى التَّسَابُقِ إِلَى الْخَيْرِ، وَأَنَّ كُلَّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمْ يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَسْبِقَ غَيْرَهُ.

This hadith offers several lessons. First, it shows the eagerness of the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, to race toward good deeds, with each of them desiring to excel over others.

وَمِنْهَا: أَنَّ هَذَا الذِّكْرَ: «سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ثَلَاثًا وَثَلَاثِينَ» مَشْرُوعٌ خَلْفَ الصَّلَوَاتِ، وَقَدْ وَرَدَ فِي حَدِيثٍ آخَرَ أَنَّهُ تُكَمَّلُ الْمِائَةُ بِقَوْلِ: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ.

Another lesson is that this remembrance—saying "Subhan Allah, Al-Hamdulillah, and Allahu Akbar" thirty-three times—is prescribed after prayers. It is reported in another hadith that the hundred is completed by adding: "La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamd, wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir."
