شَرْحُ رِيَاضِ الصَّالِحِينَ مِنْ كَلَامِ سَيِّدِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

Commentary on Riyadh as-Salihin, drawn from the words of the Master of the Messengers, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

إِذَا غَرِقَتِ امْرَأَةٌ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ إِنْسَانٌ، وَأَنْقَذَهَا، أَوْ شَبَّ حَرِيقٌ فِي الْبَيْتِ فَجَاءَ إِنْسَانٌ فَأَنْقَذَهَا، فَإِنَّ بَعْضَ الْعَوَامِّ يَدَّعِي أَنَّهُ يَصِيرُ مَحْرَمًا لَهَا، وَهَذَا لَيْسَ لَهُ أَصْلٌ، وَغَيْرُ صَحِيحٍ، فَالْمَحَارِمُ سَبْعٌ بِالنَّسَبِ وَسَبْعٌ بِالرَّضَاعَةِ، وَأَرْبَعٌ بِالْمُصَاهَرَةِ، أَمَّا الزَّوْجُ فَمَعْلُومٌ أَنَّهُ مَحْرَمٌ؛ لِأَنَّهُ زَوْجٌ، وَاللَّهُ الْمُوَفِّقُ.

If a woman is drowning and someone saves her, or if a fire breaks out in a house and someone rescues her, some laypeople claim that her savior becomes her mahram. This belief is baseless and incorrect. Mahram status is established by seven categories of lineage, seven of nursing, and four of marriage. A husband is obviously a mahram by virtue of his marriage. Allah is the Grantor of success.
