بَابُ اسْتِحْبَابِ الْمُصَافَحَةِ عِنْدَ اللِّقَاءِ وَبَشَاشَةِ الْوَجْهِ وَتَقْبِيلِ يَدِ الرَّجُلِ الصَّالِحِ

كُلُّ هَذَا رَحْمَةً بِهَا وَعَطْفًا، وَإِلَّا فَمِنَ الْمُمْكِنِ أَنْ يَقُولَ لِإِحْدَى نِسَائِهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُنَّ: خُذِي الْبِنْتَ، لَكِنْ رَحْمَةً، رُبَّمَا أَنَّهَا تَعَلَّقَتْ بِجَدِّهَا، فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُطَيِّبَ نَفْسَهَا، فَجَاءَ بِهَا يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ وَهُوَ يَحْمِلُهَا،

All of this was out of mercy and affection. He could easily have told one of his wives—may Allah be pleased with them—to take the child, but he was moved by compassion. Perhaps she had clung to her grandfather, and he wanted to comfort her, so he brought her along and carried her while leading the people in prayer.

وَفِي يَوْمٍ مِنَ الْأَيَّامِ كَانَ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ، وَكَانَ عَلَى الْحَسَنِ وَالْحُسَيْنِ ثَوْبَانِ لَعَلَّهُمَا جَدِيدَانِ، وَكَانَ فِيهِمَا طُولٌ؛ فَجَعَلَا يَمْشِيَانِ وَيَتَعَثَّرَانِ، فَنَزَلَ مِنْ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَحَمَلَهُمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ، وَقَالَ: صَدَقَ اللَّهُ: إِنَّمَا أَمْوَالُكُمْ وَأَوْلَادُكُمْ فِتْنَةٌ (١) [التَّغَابُنُ: ١٥]، وَقَالَ: إِنَّهُ رَأَى هَذَيْنِ الْوَلَدَيْنِ يَتَعَثَّرَانِ، يَعْنِي فَمَا طَابَتْ نَفْسُهُ حَتَّى نَزَلَ فَحَمَلَهُمَا.

One day, while he was delivering a sermon, Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn appeared wearing two garments—perhaps they were new and slightly too long—causing them to stumble as they walked. He descended from the pulpit, picked them up, and recited: 'Allah has spoken the truth: Your wealth and your children are but a trial' [At-Taghabun: 15]. He explained that he had seen the two boys stumbling and could not rest until he had come down to carry them.
