شَرْحُ رِيَاضِ الصَّالِحِينَ مِنْ كَلَامِ سَيِّدِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ١ -

Commentary on Riyadh as-Salihin from the words of the Master of the Messengers, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

كِتَابُ الْأَدَبِ ٨٤ -

1. The Book of Manners.

بَابُ الْحَيَاءِ وَفَضْلِهِ وَالْحَثِّ عَلَى التَّخَلُّقِ بِهِ ٦٨٠ -

84. Chapter on Modesty, its virtue, and the encouragement to cultivate it.

عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَرَّ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ وَهُوَ يَعِظُ أَخَاهُ فِي الْحَيَاءِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: «دَعْهُ؛ فَإِنَّ الْحَيَاءَ مِنَ الْإِيمَانِ، مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ». ٦٨١ -

680. Ibn Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, passed by a man from the Ansar who was lecturing his brother about being too modest. The Messenger of Allah said, "Leave him be, for modesty is part of faith." Agreed upon.

وَعَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: «الْحَيَاءُ لَا يَأْتِي إِلَّا بِخَيْرٍ»، مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.

681. Imran ibn Husayn reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, "Modesty brings only good." Agreed upon.

وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ لِمُسْلِمٍ: «الْحَيَاءُ خَيْرٌ كُلُّهُ»، أَوْ قَالَ: «الْحَيَاءُ كُلُّهُ خَيْرٌ». الشَّرْحُ

In a narration by Muslim, it states, "Modesty is entirely good," or he said, "All of modesty is good."

Commentary.

قَالَ الْمُؤَلِّفُ النَّوَوِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ فِي كِتَابِهِ (رِيَاضِ الصَّالِحِينَ): كِتَابُ الْأَدَبِ، بَابُ الْحَيَاءِ وَفَضْلِهِ وَالْحَثِّ عَلَى التَّخَلُّقِ بِهِ.

The author, an-Nawawi, may Allah have mercy on him, writes in his book, Riyadh as-Salihin: The Book of Manners, Chapter on Modesty, its virtue, and the encouragement to cultivate it.

الْأَدَبُ: الْأَخْلَاقُ الَّتِي يَتَأَدَّبُ بِهَا الْإِنْسَانُ، وَهِيَ أَنْوَاعٌ كَثِيرَةٌ. (١)

Manners refer to the moral conduct a person adopts, and these take many forms.

أَخْرَجَهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ: كِتَابُ الْإِيمَانِ، بَابُ الْحَيَاءِ مِنَ الْإِيمَانِ رَقْمُ (٢٤)، وَمُسْلِمٌ: كِتَابُ الْإِيمَانِ، بَابُ بَيَانِ عَدَدِ شُعَبِ الْإِيمَانِ، رَقْمُ (٣٦). (٢)
