شَرْحُ رِيَاضِ الصَّالِحِينَ مِنْ كَلَامِ سَيِّدِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَضْرِبُ الضَّرْبَ الْعَظِيمَ الْمُوجِعَ، وَلَا يُهْمِلُ كَمَا يَدَّعِي هَؤُلَاءِ الْمُرَبُّونَ الَّذِينَ هُمْ مِنْ أَبْعَدِ النَّاسِ عَنِ التَّرْبِيَةِ، لَا يُقَالُ لَهُمْ شَيْءٌ؛ لِأَنَّ الصَّبِيَّ لَا يَمْتَثِلُ وَلَا يَعْرِفُ، لَكِنَّ الضَّرْبَ يُؤَدِّبُهُ، وَاللَّهُ الْمُوَفِّقُ.

Commentary on Riyadh as-Salihin, drawn from the words of the Master of the Messengers, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
يَضْرِبُ الضَّرْبَ الْعَظِيمَ الْمُوجِعَ، وَلَا يُهْمِلُ كَمَا يَدَّعِي هَؤُلَاءِ الْمُرَبُّونَ الَّذِينَ هُمْ مِنْ أَبْعَدِ النَّاسِ عَنِ التَّرْبِيَةِ، لَا يُقَالُ لَهُمْ شَيْءٌ؛ لِأَنَّ الصَّبِيَّ لَا يَمْتَثِلُ وَلَا يَعْرِفُ، لَكِنَّ الضَّرْبَ يُؤَدِّبُهُ، وَاللَّهُ الْمُوَفِّقُ.
He administers a firm, painful strike rather than neglecting the child as these so-called educators claim—men who are the furthest from true upbringing. They argue that a child should not be corrected because he neither obeys nor understands, yet physical discipline corrects him. Allah is the Grantor of success.
