مُقَدِّمَةُ الطَّبْعَةِ الْأُولَى

Introduction to the first edition.

ابْنُ مَالِكٍ قَدْ أَغْفَلَ ذَلِكَ فِي «أَلْفِيَّتِهِ» ، وَوَضَعَ لَهُ لَامِيَّةً خَاصَّةً ، سَمَّاهَا «لَامِيَّةَ الْأَفْعَالِ»

Ibn Malik neglected that in his 'Alfiyyah', and composed for it a special Lamiyyah, which he named 'Lamiyyat al-Af'al'.

جَمَعَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى

May Allah the Exalted gather [us].

وَأُرِيدُ أَنْ أُنَبِّهَكَ إِلَى أَنَّنِي وَقَفْتُ فِي تَصْحِيحِ هَذِهِ الْمَطْبُوعَةِ تَصْحِيحاً دَقِيقاً

I want to alert you that I have stood [firm] in correcting this printed work with precise correction;

فَإِنَّ نُسَخَ الْكِتَابِ الَّتِي فِي أَيْدِي النَّاسِ - رَغْمَ كَثْرَتِهَا ، وَتَعَدُّدِ طَبْعِهَا – لَيْسَ فِيهَا نُسْخَةٌ بَلَغَتْ مِنَ الْإِتْقَانِ حَدّاً يَنْفِي عَنْكَ الرَّيْبَ وَالتَّوَقُّفَ

for the copies of the book that are in the hands of the people - despite their abundance and the multiplicity of their printings - there is not a single copy among them that has reached a level of perfection that removes from you doubt and hesitation;

فَإِنَّكَ لَتَجِدُ فِي بَعْضِهَا زِيَادَةً لَيْسَتْ فِي بَعْضِهَا الْآخَرِ ، وَتَجِدُ بَيْنَهَا تَفَاوُتاً فِي التَّعْبِيرِ

for you find in some of them an addition that is not in some others, and you find between them a discrepancy in expression,

وَقَدْ لِي بَيْنَ اثْنَتَيْ عَشْرَةَ نُسْخَةً مُخْتَلِفَةٍ ، فِي زَمَانِ الطَّبْعِ ، وَمَكَانِهِ ، وَيَسَّرَ لِي - سُبْحَانَهُ ! - مُعَارَضَةَ بَعْضِهَا بِبَعْضٍ

and I have [collated] between twelve different copies, in time of printing and place, and He facilitated for me - glory be to Him! - the collation of some of them with others,

فَاسْتَخْلَصْتُ لَكَ مِنْ بَيْنِهَا أَكْمَلَهَا بَيَاناً ، وَأَصَحَّهَا تَعْبِيراً وَأَدْنَاهَا إِلَى مَا أُحِبُّ لَكَ

so I extracted for you from among them the most complete in clarity, the most correct in expression, and the closest to what I love for you,

فَجَاءَتْ - فِيمَا أَعْتَقِدُ - خَيْرَ مَا أُخْرِجَ لِلنَّاسِ مِنْ مَطْبُوعَاتِ هَذَا الْكِتَابِ

so it came out - as I believe - as the best of what has been brought out to the people from the printed editions of this book.

وَقَدْ وَضَعْنَا زِيَادَاتِ بَعْضِ النُّسَخِ بَيْنَ عَلَامَتَيْنِ هَكَذَا

We have placed the additions of some copies between two marks like this [ ].

وَاللَّهُ - سُبْحَانَهُ ! - الْمَسْئُولُ أَنْ يَنْفَعَ بِهَذَا الْعَمَلِ عَلَى قَدْرِ الْعَنَاءِ فِيهِ ، وَأَنْ يَجْعَلَهُ فِي سَبِيلِ الْإِخْلَاصِ فِيهِ لِوَجْهِهِ

And Allah - glory be to Him! - is the one asked to make this work beneficial according to the effort put into it, and to make it in the path of sincerity for His sake;

إِنَّهُ الرَّبُّ الْمُعِينُ ، وَعَلَيْهِ التُّكْلَانُ

He is the Lord, the Helper, and upon Him is the reliance.
