فَبَدَتْ لَهُمَا سَوْآتُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا يَخْصِفَانِ عَلَيْهِمَا مِن وَرَقَ الْجَنَّةِ وَعَصَى آدَمُ رَبَّهُ فَعَوَى . ثُمَّ اجْتَبَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِ وَهَدَى . قَالَ أَهْبِطَا مِنْهَا جَمِيعًا بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ فَإِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُم مِّنِّى هُدى فَمَنِ اتَّبَعَ هُدَايَ فَلَا يَضِلُّ وَلَا يَشْقَى * وَمَنْ أَعْرَضَ عَن ذِكْرِي فَإِنَّ لَهُ مَعِيشَةً ضَنكًا وَنَحْشُرُهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَعْمَى . قَالَ رَبِّ حَشَرْتَنِي أَعْمَى وَقَدْ كُنتُ بَصِيراً . قَالَ كَذَلِكَ أَتَتْكَ آيَنَا فَنَسِيتَهَا وَكَذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ تُنسَى . وَقَالَ تَعَالَى : قُلْ هُوَ نَبَأٌ عَظِيمٌ . أَنتُمْ عَنْهُ مُعْرِضُونَ . مَا كَانَ لِيَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ بِالْمَلَا الْأَعْلَى إِذْ يَخْتَصِمُونَ . إِن يُوحَى إِلَيَّ إِلَّا أَنَّمَا أَنَا نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ * إِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلائِكَةِ إِنِّى خَالِقٌ بَشَراً مِّن طِينٍ . فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحَى فَقَعُوا لَهُ سَاجِدِينَ . فَسَجَدَ الْمَلائِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ * إِلَّا إِبْلِيسَ اسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ . قَالَ يَا إِبْلِيسُ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَن تَسْجُدَ لِمَا خَلَقْتُ بِيَدَيَّ أَسْتَكْبَرْتَ أَمْ كُنتَ مِنَ الْعَالِينَ . قَالَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِّنْهُ خَلَقْتَنِي مِن نَّارٍ وَخَلَقْتَهُ مِن طِينٍ * قَالَ فَاخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ * وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ لَعْنَتِي إِلَى يَوْمِ الدِّينِ . قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِي إِلَى يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ . قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ المُنظَرِينَ . إلَى يَوْمِ الْوَقْتِ المَعْلُومِ * قَالَ فَبِعِزَّتِكَ لَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ إِلا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ الْمُخْلَصِينَ . قَالَ فَالْحَقِّ وَالْحَقِّ أَقُولُ . لَأَمْلَانُ جَهَنَّمَ مِنكَ وَمِمَّن تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ . قُلْ مَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُتَكَلِّفِينَ . إِنْ هُوَ إِلا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَالَمِينَ . وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ نَبَأَهُ بَعْدَ حِينٍ . فَهَذَا ذِكْرُ هَذِهِ الْقِصَّةِ مِنْ مَوَاضِعَ مُتَفَرِّقَةٍ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ، وَقَدْ تَكَلَّمْنَا عَلَى ذَلِكَ كُلِّهِ فِي التَّفْسِيرِ، وَلِنَذْكُرْهَا هُنَا مَضْمُونَ مَا دَلَّتْ عَلَيْهِ هَذِهِ الْآيَاتُ الْكَرِيمَاتُ، وَمَا يَتَعَلَّقُ بِهَا مِنَ الْأَحَادِيثِ الْوَارِدَةِ فِي ذَلِكَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ لَا .... وَاللَّهُ الْمُسْتَعَانُ . فَأَخْبَرَ تَعَالَى أَنَّهُ خَاطَبَ الْمَلَائِكَةَ قَائِلًا لَهُمْ : إِنِّي جَاعِلٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ خَلِيفَةً . أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَخْلُقَ مِنْ آدَمَ وَذُرِّيَّتِهِ الَّذِينَ يَخْلُفُ بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا كَمَا قَالَ : وَهُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَكُمْ خَلَائِفَ الْأَرْضِ . وَقَالَ تَعَالَى : وَيَجْعَلُكُمْ

فَبَدَتْ لَهُمَا سَوْآتُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا يَخْصِفَانِ عَلَيْهِمَا مِن وَرَقَ الْجَنَّةِ وَعَصَى آدَمُ رَبَّهُ فَعَوَى
Their nakedness became exposed to them, and they began to cover themselves with leaves from Paradise. Adam disobeyed his Lord and lost his way.
ثُمَّ اجْتَبَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِ وَهَدَى
Then his Lord chose him and turned to him in forgiveness and guided [him].
قَالَ أَهْبِطَا مِنْهَا جَمِيعًا بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ
He said, "Descend from here, all of you, as enemies to one another."
فَإِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُم مِّنِّى هُدى فَمَنِ اتَّبَعَ هُدَايَ فَلَا يَضِلُّ وَلَا يَشْقَى
[Allah] said, "Descend from Paradise - all, [your descendants] being enemies to one another. And if there should come to you guidance from Me - then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter].
وَمَنْ أَعْرَضَ عَن ذِكْرِي فَإِنَّ لَهُ مَعِيشَةً ضَنكًا وَنَحْشُرُهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَعْمَى
And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a depressed life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind."
قَالَ رَبِّ حَشَرْتَنِي أَعْمَى وَقَدْ كُنتُ بَصِيراً
He will say, "My Lord, why have you raised me blind while I was [once] seeing?"
قَالَ كَذَلِكَ أَتَتْكَ آيَنَا فَنَسِيتَهَا وَكَذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ تُنسَى
He will reply, "Just as Our signs came to you and you ignored them, today you are ignored."
وَقَالَ تَعَالَى : قُلْ هُوَ نَبَأٌ عَظِيمٌ . أَنتُمْ عَنْهُ مُعْرِضُونَ
The Exalted said, "Say: This is a momentous message, yet you turn away from it."
مَا كَانَ لِيَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ بِالْمَلَا الْأَعْلَى إِذْ يَخْتَصِمُونَ
I had no knowledge of the exalted assembly [of angels] when they were disputing [the creation of Adam].
إِن يُوحَى إِلَيَّ إِلَّا أَنَّمَا أَنَا نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ
It has not been revealed to me except that I am a clear warner."
إِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلائِكَةِ إِنِّى خَالِقٌ بَشَراً مِّن طِينٍ
[So mention] when your Lord said to the angels, "Indeed, I am going to create a human being from clay.
فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحَى فَقَعُوا لَهُ سَاجِدِينَ
And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration."
فَسَجَدَ الْمَلائِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ * إِلَّا إِبْلِيسَ اسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ
Except Iblees; he was arrogant and became among the disbelievers.
قَالَ يَا إِبْلِيسُ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَن تَسْجُدَ لِمَا خَلَقْتُ بِيَدَيَّ أَسْتَكْبَرْتَ أَمْ كُنتَ مِنَ الْعَالِينَ
[Allah] said, "O Iblees, what prevented you from prostrating to that which I created with My hands? Were you arrogant [then], or were you [already] among the haughty?"
قَالَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِّنْهُ خَلَقْتَنِي مِن نَّارٍ وَخَلَقْتَهُ مِن طِينٍ
He said, "I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay."
قَالَ فَاخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ
[Allah] said, "Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled.
وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ لَعْنَتِي إِلَى يَوْمِ الدِّينِ
And indeed, upon you is My curse until the Day of Recompense."
قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِي إِلَى يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ
He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected."
قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ المُنظَرِينَ . إلَى يَوْمِ الْوَقْتِ المَعْلُومِ
He replied, "You are among those granted a reprieve until the appointed day."
قَالَ فَبِعِزَّتِكَ لَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ إِلا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ الْمُخْلَصِينَ
He said, "By Your might, I will mislead them all, except for Your chosen servants among them."
قَالَ فَالْحَقِّ وَالْحَقِّ أَقُولُ . لَأَمْلَانُ جَهَنَّمَ مِنكَ وَمِمَّن تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
[That] I will surely fill Hell with you and those of them that follow you all together."
قُلْ مَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُتَكَلِّفِينَ
Say, [O Muhammad], "I do not ask you for the Qur'an any payment, and I am not of the pretentious
إِنْ هُوَ إِلا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَالَمِينَ . وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ نَبَأَهُ بَعْدَ حِينٍ
It is but a reminder to all people, and you will surely learn the truth of it in time."
فَهَذَا ذِكْرُ هَذِهِ الْقِصَّةِ مِنْ مَوَاضِعَ مُتَفَرِّقَةٍ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ،
This is a summary of the story as it appears in various places throughout the Quran.
وَقَدْ تَكَلَّمْنَا عَلَى ذَلِكَ كُلِّهِ فِي التَّفْسِيرِ،
We have discussed all of this in the commentary.
وَلِنَذْكُرْهَا هُنَا مَضْمُونَ مَا دَلَّتْ عَلَيْهِ هَذِهِ الْآيَاتُ الْكَرِيمَاتُ،
Let us state here the essence of what these noble verses convey.
فَأَخْبَرَ تَعَالَى أَنَّهُ خَاطَبَ الْمَلَائِكَةَ قَائِلًا لَهُمْ : إِنِّي جَاعِلٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ خَلِيفَةً
The Exalted informed us that He addressed the angels, saying, "I am placing a successor on earth."
وَهُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَكُمْ خَلَائِفَ الْأَرْضِ
He is the One who made you successors on the earth.
