٩ - «مَا أَنَا بِغَافِلٍ . . . . هَذِهِ مَا النَّافِيَةُ، وَهِيَ مِنْ أَخَوَاتِ (لَيْسَ) تَدْخُلُ عَلَى الْجُمْلَةِ الْاسْمِيَّةِ، فَتَرْفَعُ الْاسْمَ وَتَنْصِبُ الْخَبَرَ، وَتُسَمَّى (مَا) الْحِجَازِيَّةَ) نَحْوَ مَا هَذَا بَشَرًا ﴾ [يُوسُف/ ٣١] .

9 - 'I am not heedless'.... This is the negative 'ma', and it is one of the sisters of 'laysa' (to be), which enters upon the nominal sentence, raising the subject and putting the predicate in the accusative case, and it is called the 'Hijazi ma', such as: 'This is not a human' [Yusuf/31].

وَقَدْ يَقْتَرِنُ خَبَرُهَا بِالْبَاءِ الزَّائِدَةِ، نَحْوَ: وَمَا اللَّهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ ﴾ [الْبَقَرَة/ ٧٤] .

Its predicate may be connected with the redundant 'ba', such as: 'And Allah is not unaware of what you do' [Al-Baqarah/74].
