شَفَقَةٌ وَلَا تَرْعَيْنَ لَهَا حَقًّا، قَالَتْ: إِنِّي أَخَافُ إِنْ أَنْتَ بَدَأْتَ بِقَطْعِ عِقْدِي أَنْ تَمَلَّ وَتَكْسَلَ عَنْ قَطْعِ مَا بَقِيَ، وَعَرَفْتُ أَنَّكَ إِنْ بَدَأْتَ بِهِنَّ قَبْلِي وَكُنْتُ أَنَا الْأَخِيرَةَ لَمْ تَرْضَ - وَإِنْ أَدْرَكَكَ الْفُتُورُ - أَنْ أَبْقَى حَبِيسَةً فِي الشَّبَكَةِ، قَالَ الْفَأْرُ: هَذَا مِمَّا يَزِيدُ الرَّغْبَةَ فِيكِ وَالْمَوَدَّةَ لَكِ، ثُمَّ أَخَذَ الْفَأْرُ فِي قَرْضِ الشَّبَكَةِ حَتَّى فَرَغَ مِنْهَا فَانْطَلَقَتِ الْمُطَوَّقَةُ وَحَمَامُهَا مَعَهَا. أَضِفْ إِلَى قَامُوسِكَ: مَعَانِي الْمُفْرَدَاتِ. الْكَلِمَةُ: مَعْنَاهَا. نَثَرَ عَلَيْهَا الْحَبَّ: رَمَى بِهِ مُتَفَرِّقًا. اخْتَفَى: كَمَنَ. تَتَلَجْلَجُ: تَرْتَبِكُ فِي حِبَالِ الشَّبَكَةِ وَالْمُرَادُ تَتَحَرَّكُ. الْوَرْطَةُ: الْهَلَكَةُ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍ يَصْعُبُ النَّجَاةُ مِنْهُ. لَا تَتَاذَلْنَ: لَا تَتْرُكْنَ التَّعَاوُنَ. وَثَبْنَ: قَفَزْنَ. خَلِيلَتُكِ: صَاحِبَتُكِ. الْفُتُورُ: التَّقْصِيرُ فِي الْعَمَلِ.

(from previous page) ⟵ When she spoke to him at length, he said to her: "You have repeated the speech to me as if you have no need for yourself, nor do you have any compassion for it, nor do you observe its right." She said: "I fear that if you start by cutting my knot, you will get bored and lazy about cutting what remains, and I knew that if you started with them before me and I was the last, you would not be pleased - even if weakness overtook you - that I remain trapped in the net.
قَالَ الْفَأْرُ: هَذَا مِمَّا يَزِيدُ الرَّغْبَةَ فِيكِ وَالْمَوَدَّةَ لَكِ، ثُمَّ أَخَذَ الْفَأْرُ فِي قَرْضِ الشَّبَكَةِ حَتَّى فَرَغَ مِنْهَا فَانْطَلَقَتِ الْمُطَوَّقَةُ وَحَمَامُهَا مَعَهَا.
The mouse replied, "That only makes me admire and care for you more." He then began gnawing through the net until he finished, and the ring-dove and her flock flew off together.
