عِلْمُ الْمَعَانِي: هُوَ: عِلْمٌ يُعْرَفُ بِهِ أَحْوَالُ اللَّفْظِ الْعَرَبِيِّ الَّتِي بِهَا يُطَابِقُ مُقْتَضَى الْحَالِ. فَتَخْتَلِفُ صُوَرُ الْكَلَامِ لِاخْتِلَافِ الْأَحْوَالِ. مِثَالُ ذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: ﴿وَأَنَا لَا نَدْرِي أَشَرٌّ أُرِيدَ بِمَن فِي الْأَرْضِ أَمْ أَرَادَ بِهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ رَشَدًا﴾، فَإِنَّ مَا قَبْلَ (أَمْ) صُورَةٌ مِنَ الْكَلَامِ تُخَالِفُ صُورَةَ مَا بَعْدَهَا؛ لِأَنَّ الْأُولَى فِيهَا فِعْلُ الْإِرَادَةِ مَبْنِيٌّ لِلْمَجْهُولِ وَالثَّانِيَةُ فِيهَا فِعْلُ الْإِرَادَةِ مَبْنِيٌّ لِلْمَعْلُومِ، وَالْحَالُ الدَّاعِي لِذَلِكَ نِسْبَةُ الْخَيْرِ إِلَيْهِ سُبْحَانَهُ فِي الثَّانِيَةِ، وَمَنْعُ نِسْبَةِ الشَّرِّ إِلَيْهِ فِي الْأُولَى. وَيَنْحَصِرُ الْكَلَامُ عَلَى هَذَا الْعِلْمِ فِي ثَمَانِيَةِ أَبْوَابٍ وَخَاتِمَةٍ.

عِلْمُ الْمَعَانِي: هُوَ: عِلْمٌ يُعْرَفُ بِهِ أَحْوَالُ اللَّفْظِ الْعَرَبِيِّ الَّتِي بِهَا يُطَابِقُ مُقْتَضَى الْحَالِ.
The science of meanings: It is a science by which the states of the Arabic word are known, through which it corresponds to the requirement of the situation.
فَتَخْتَلِفُ صُوَرُ الْكَلَامِ لِاخْتِلَافِ الْأَحْوَالِ.
The forms of speech differ according to the difference in situations.
﴿وَأَنَا لَا نَدْرِي أَشَرٌّ أُرِيدَ بِمَن فِي الْأَرْضِ أَمْ أَرَادَ بِهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ رَشَدًا﴾،
And we do not know [therefore] whether evil is intended for those on earth or whether their Lord intends for them a right course.
